Album of the Week 1-11-25

Afternoon folks!

This week we have an album of great saxophone blues playing to start us off by Big Jay McNeely, followed by Shuggie Otis' (son of Johnny Otis) debut album with Al Kooper. Following that, we've got 70's blues-rock one-hit-wonder Norman Greenbaum - you can be one of the few to listen to the whole album! After that there's some r&b with Rufus and Chaka Kahn's album featuring their big hit, "Tell Me Something Good." After that we radically shift gears for some acoustic blues and bluegrass with Norman Blake and then, screee ... it's some high-octane rock and roll with Alvin Lee and Ten Years Later.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

since youtube's playlist embedding seems to still be broken, i think i have a work-around - at least it works for me.

there's a second link (says "on youtube") that should take you to my playlist on youtube, you could try it out if you want to hear the whole album. on the other hand, given how reliable youtube is ...

well, let me know and i'll see if i need to try out something else.

Many thanks for Big Jay McNeely! With a name like that I didn't know what to expect, but the great album cover was a hint, and I wish there was more.

I was able to click on the video and listen to the full album directly.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

glad you liked big jay, that compilation has a lot of his best recordings, though there are a couple more that i wish were included. i thought that the graphic concept for the cover was well done, too.

i'm relieved to hear that folks were able to play the albums, even if i'm not able to embed them.

Hi Joe,

For me the second link you put up with 'on youtube', worked like the old days.

Clicking the vid with pic still only gave me one song and unrelated sidebar.

Foxfire latest updated..

Though just checked the TYL album ... which I thought was much better than the other TYL album you posted. I think this one said 1976 and the prior post was a '78 album? In other words the 'Later' you posted earlier, was later. Wink

Methinks some Shuggie and Al sounds good...

Thanks for the soundscape Joe!

@dystopian

glad to hear that the work-around works, maybe one day youtube will fix the stuff it broke.

heh, i think that's all the tyl albums i have. i wasn't all that impressed with them back in the day compared to tya, but i held onto them anyway. they don't take up that much space and maybe somebody out there on youtube will enjoy them. Smile

shuggie was a pretty impressive guitarist, sadly under-recorded. i think that he just came along at the wrong time or place.
