Norman Blake

Album of the Week 1-11-25

Afternoon folks!

This week we have an album of great saxophone blues playing to start us off by Big Jay McNeely, followed by Shuggie Otis' (son of Johnny Otis) debut album with Al Kooper. Following that, we've got 70's blues-rock one-hit-wonder Norman Greenbaum - you can be one of the few to listen to the whole album! After that there's some r&b with Rufus and Chaka Kahn's album featuring their big hit, "Tell Me Something Good." After that we radically shift gears for some acoustic blues and bluegrass with Norman Blake and then, screee ... it's some high-octane rock and roll with Alvin Lee and Ten Years Later.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 5-4-24

Afternoon folks!

I hope that you are all having a great weekend! Here's another helping of albums from my collection. Starting off there's a live Albert King album from the late 60's, followed by a compilation of singles from a couple of great New Orleans record labels featuring folks like Professor Longhair, Johnny Adams, Irma Thomas and Tommy Ridgely. After that we've got a bunch of rock for you from Little Feat, a fairly obscure psychedlic band called Fever Tree and The Pretty Things. Finishing up, there is an album from acoustic guitarist Norman Blake with mandolin player Red Rector and last but not least Jim Kweskin and The Jug Band finish us off. I will be adding some tracks to the Kweskin album later on Saturday night.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week 11-4-23

Afternoon folks!

There's a big haul of good stuff this week starting off with 3 (count 'em) 3(!) blues albums. There's albums by Chicago blues guy Eddy Clearwater, Louisiana swamp blues harmonica player Lazy Lester and from the Pacific Northwest there's the Delvon LaMarr organ trio. In the blues-rock category we start off with an often overlooked album from Mike Bloomfield, John Hammond and Dr. John - whenever I used to play it on the air people would call the station to ask what is that? After that there's albums by Robin Trower, and the J. Geils Band.

If all that leaves you feeling like you want to mellow out, there's a lesser-known Van Morrison album and we finish off with acoustic guitarist Norman Blake recorded live.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

This week I've uploaded a Roosevelt Sykes album and a whole bunch of blues-rock from some usual suspects: Savoy Brown, Rory Gallagher & Vinegar Joe. There's also some basic rock and roll from The (early) Small Faces and finally, a bluegrass masterpiece from Norman Blake, Tut Taylor, Sam Bush, Butch Robins, Vassar Clements, David Holland & Jethro Burns.

Check it out and have a great weekend!
