Album of the Week 12-23-23

Afternoon folks!

We've got some Chicago blues this week from Son Seals, followed by some r&b from Robert Ward & The Ohio Untouchables (the Untouchables later became the Ohio Players), after that we've got an album from the Neville Brothers. In the blues-rock vein, there's albums from JJ Cale and The Climax Blues Band. Then for a bit of diversity we've got a country album from Leon Russell, some art rock from Be Bop Deluxe and we finish up with some acoustic folk-blues from The Holy Modal Rounders.

Enjoy and have a great weekend/holiday!

Christmas - the Season of Peace

Our nation's self-image since WWII is in large part a promoter of peace in the world and our communities. The story goes - We are not perfect, but try our best. Except this year is different. It is harder to ignore US government, NGO, corporations and many of our citizens are addicted to killing people for personal gain. It does not have to be large dollar amounts, simple paycheck or pension is adequate for many. This week's vote process in the United Nations Security Council we were left exposed providing opportunity and assistance in the destruction of a native population from their historical home.

My New Year's wish

is a Republican landslide in 2024.

Here's Wolfgang Streeck on the current news:

The United States in particular, but also Germany, will forever be closely associated with this unrelenting slaughter of thousands of innocent men, women and children, a slaughter that both countries continue to underwrite materially and diplomatically.

Friday Night Photos Winter White Sale Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like

Happy Winter Solstice. The first day of winter has brought moderate temps and rain showers with it. We have now had at least one day with rain every month this year. I've lived in San Diego since 1977 and I don't recall that ever happening before. It's not uncommon to get a day of rain during one of the summer months, but to get rain every month during the summer is out of the norm.
Stay warm and dry and have a happy holiday season.

Winter means snow and while other areas of the country have snow right now, this Snowy Egret and its friends are the closest thing we have to snow right now.

Io Saturnalia!

It's Winter Solstice (in this part of the northern hemisphere), the day with the shortest amount of sunlight for the year! And it's part of Saturnalia!

Chester, in England, still celebrates Saturnalia! (from a BBC article this year about Chester and the celebration)
