OT WED 3 JUL 24 ~ Disobedience Day

~

If the machine of government is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law.
-- Henry David Thoreau

~

In Civil Disobedience as throughout his other writings, Thoreau focuses on the individual's
ultimate responsibility to live deliberately and to extract meaning from his own life;
overseeing the machinery of society is secondary.

~

Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state has become lawless or corrupt.
And a citizen who barters with such a state shares in its corruption and lawlessness.
-- Mahatma Gandhi

~

Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of leaders…and millions have been killed because of this obedience…Our problem is that people are obedient allover the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves… (and) the grand thieves are running the country. That’s our problem.
-- Howard Zinn

Climbing a ladder today to do battle with wasps so as to replace a rotted fascia board.
Shoot and run! Life can be exciting that way.

I hope they are NOT the dreaded white faced type. I got nailed by one out by the woodshed. Their venom ‘tags’ you so when their help arrives, you are it. I was lucky to be able to shoot the nest from inside my car, then up the window in time to safely watch the massacre.

My one sting raised a golf ball sized welt that took days to stop itching and discomfort.

I was driving with the windows down
in traffic(two lane) about 50mph
heard a Thwack from the passenger side
and almost immediately felt a lightening bolt
just in front of my right ear

a bald faced hornet had bounced off
my passenger mirror and Tagged me
on the upper cheekbone

Damned near drove off the road
and I looked like I’d taken a shot from mike tyson

thanks for the OT too. Already near 70, due to go to 100+, makes outside chores and work in garage/shop hard to sustain. Alternating with indoor chores, at lest for now.

Good luck with your wasp nest. Never had much in that arena here except paper wasps. I would sneak out in the middle of the knight with a small ladder and long handled hoe, detach nest and get back inside, then continue project next day.

on civil disobedience, QMS.

It just seems impossible that we can't sue Congress for allowing the Executive branch to break the law by arming human rights violators. Do we not have any legal recourse?

it seems the way the system is set-up, no judge would touch that approach
but hopefully I am wrong. Going to a 'higher authority' like ICC or ICJ will lead
nowhere, due to US exceptionalism. Just to have a choice in the election process
requires multitudes of lawsuits and lawyer fees. Heard Jill Stein speak on that.
Same with RFK, Jr. fighting thru the courts just to gain ballot access drains
campaign funds. We have limited options to sue congress, executive and
judicial at the federal level. States may be different?

the clear and present need for civil disobedience on a very large scale, and the current comply-or-die stance taken by our militarized occupying force police, leads to the inevitable conclusion that any substantive change will involve bloodshed.

This is nothing new, of course, as Seth Rich, Vince Foster, and many others could tell you- were they not dead already.

I mourn for our county. As JFK said in 1962:

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

And here we are. Which gun barrel would we prefer to stare into? Nuclear holocaust or civil war?

I think I'll go pour myself an Adult Beverage. I'd prefer to die of liver failure, before either of those finally occur.

Twice bitten, permanently shy.

Careful on the wasp kill.
Well, wasp sprays are sometimes a joke. I bought some cheap product call Eliminator. It repels them until it dries, then they return. I tried Raid. Same results. Next comes Hot Shot, which is getting hard to find. It just might be that is the spray that kills them that worked so well last year.
Meanwhile, a honey bee nest formed under my brother's roof, having gotten there via a rotted eave. He is having an expert come remove them, as they are protected by law. It will cost him an arm and a leg.
He had a friend mow his lawn right around his home. The friend eliminated 2 red wasp nests and killed one copperhead snake. Nasty little snake.
Thanks for the OT, my friend.

sprays, but, in the past, I've had success on assorted critters with plain old WD-40 if you don't mind spraying it in or on the area in question. Wink

you only get two choices this year: Daffy Duck or Donald Duck.
Unless you vote independent or green, it is all duck soup.

South Padre Island from today until Sunday.
For reasons, we decided not to go weeks ago.
Well, Beryl will likely hit the island Saturday. The evacuation route would have been crazy. The 5 hr. drive would have been an all day drive, assuming we even had time to evacuate.
The vacay can wait until another time!
