Trump in the China Shop

Open Thread Image.jpg

Trump isn't making peace, he's breaking it across the globe, and instilling ill will for the US around the world. He's on the brink of an illegal invasion of Venezuela, possibly Iran, and escalating the Ukraine proxy war with Russia. As a finale for the political circus ring master, there are tariffs and sanctions here, tariffs and sanctions there, tariffs and sanctions everywhere...all bound to boomerang right back to the US. Looks like the Don's goal is to hasten the end of the US/NATO empire...that certainly appears to be the inevitable outcome to me.

Album of the Week 10-25-25

Afternoon folks!

There's some great blues for you all to listen to this week. Starting off, there's an album of mostly live recordings from the American Folk Blues Festival in Europe from 1962 with a great lineup of talent including Memphis Slim, Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, Matt Guitar Murphy and Sonny Boy Williamson. Following that are albums from Eddy Clearwater and west coast harmonica player William Clarke. After that it's on to the rock department with a band you've likely heard of, Los Lobos recorded live and we finish up in the diversity department with a 1980's album from Canadian folk-rock guitarist and songwriter Bruce Cockburn.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

A photo taken out of the window yesterday in the rain, of the flowering Cabbage Tree, which sends intoxicating wafts of fragrance through the window at night. In the background on the left is the Nikau Palm standing proudly, and on the right are Manuka Trees about to flower …

Print What?

Here's something I encountered a few days ago which made me happy and sad at the same time.

I was reading Cory Doctorow's new book, Enshittification (yes, he made up the word, and yes, it's now part of the modern vocabulary, I think Smile ). I will probably go into a full review of the book once I'm finished with it. In a short part of the book Doctorow writes about the enshittification of HP inkjet printers; no surprise there - HP wants to force you to buy their ink, for like 30 times more than other companies' ink products. Anyway, one of the things inkjet printers can do now, with the right kind of ink, is print electrically conductive circuits! That is so cool, from a geek point of view!
