DWS Unwittingly told us the 'Truth', according to the DNC

Debbie Wasserman Schultz "accidentally" told the truth about the purpose of Super-delegates in the Democracy Party -- and it has very little to do with promoting grassroot democracy -- just the opposite actually.

Super-delegates exist to control and diminish grassroot democracy, from ever threatening the Party elite's tenuous hold on power.

And the way the Media constantly confounds (and combines) the unpledged delegates with the pledged delegates in their Democratic "delegate" Totals, it would seem the DNC's "true purpose" for them, is well founded.

Here's the accidental quote from the DNC Chair back in February this year, during 'the pre-game show' to a Democratic Debate, when asked by CNN's Jake Tapper, to explain the idea of "super-delegates" to new voters:

DWS: Unpledged delegates [super-delegates] exist really to make sure that party leaders and elected officials don’t have to be in a position where they are running against grassroots activists. We are, as a Democratic Party, really highlight and emphasize inclusiveness and diversity at our convention, and so we want to give every opportunity to grass-roots activists and diverse committed Democrats to be able to participate, attend and be a delegate at the convention. And so we separate out those unpledged delegates to make sure that there isn’t competition between them.

TAPPER: I’m not sure that that would — that answer would satisfy an anxious young voter, but let’s move on.

Here's a longer version of that exchange:

CNN's Jake Tapper calls out DNC Schultz as she "clarifies" Superdelegates

link

It seems particularly "separating" {segregating} -- when the corporate media frequently goes to some length to explain that the GOP Unpledged Delegates, are "free to choose" any candidate, even right up to the convention.

Yet they rarely make that same distinction for the Dems Super-delegates -- and bother to explain that they too are "free to choose" any candidate, even right up to the convention. No with Dems, our corporate media lumps in the Unpledged with the Pledged, as if they are so complex in "purpose", the Audience would never be able fathom it. ... Just Look at that Clinton 'Delegate Lead'!

Grudging thanks to Wasserman Schultz however, for helping us out with her "clarifying" remarks. ... Which were never to be repeated by the corporate media again. Ooops!

a few days ago here on the Daily Show:

Trevor Noah:
When we talk about the delegates... and You, you are a superdelegate. What powers do you possess?

Howard Dean:
Uh, not, not that many. The real reason that superdelegates were invented is not to cook the books, it was because when we didn't have them, none of the office-holders would come to the convention... On the Democratic side, you have to run a campaign to get to the convention, and there was no elected official who wanted to run against theirs own activists, they just wouldn't show up. So in order to get them to show up, we told them they could just come essentially without running. Never in the history of the Democratic party since we've had superdelegates ever been a race which was decided by superdelegates. And I'm pretty sure the superdelegates will vote for whomever has the most pledged delegates.

SuperDelegates, closed conventions, caucuses (unlike what we have here), electoral votes, voter ID, (instead of the well tested purple finger), and anybody who says you must chose a political party are against the will and free spirit of the human race to decide with One person, one vote.

throw the DNC's rigged rules "under the bus"?

The history of when the Super-D’s were added to the Party apparatus,

had something to do with “Preventing another McGovern”

Which implies at some point in the Party’ History — this “safety valve”

It's the nature of Status Quo-ism, innit?

My point was why throw her under the bus when no one but a few pinko commie rat bastards even remember the quote. No, man, she'll get a post on the WH staff or Cabinet slot, or some sort of other payoff. Killery "doesn't even need the Left," so why bother making concessions?

Good read though even if I couldn't bring myself to play the vid.

even 'officially' declared her candidacy.
Remember that she bought those 33 delegates back in 2015.
DWS scheduled the first debate on the Saturday the week before Xmas, opposite football games and other ways that made it harder for people to watch them.
After the disaster of the midterm elections she should have been fired since she put up weak candidates, but that also gave Obama a republican congress and great cover for not being able to get his agenda passed. As if he needed more cover. How many bills did he pre cave on?
And does anyone else think that any other person who was being investigated by the FBI besides Hillary would have been able to be the candidate? I certainly don't.
If we survive her presidency, people will look back at it and wonder how so many people could have been fooled to vote for her.
Remember the Time magazine cover after Bush won reelection?
It asked how could 59 million people be so stupid?

but your calendar is a bit off.

Yes, the collusion between HVF / DNC /State Parties - Super D's was in August 2015.

Hillary got into the race officially in early April 2015 is my recollection (Bernie made the first announcement I heard on 4/29 and then I think he 'officially' entered the race in May, but I think of his getting in on 4/29).

The first Republican debate was in August 2015, by which time the DNC had not yet even ANNOUNCED when ours would begin. Ours did begin in mid-October (after TWO MONTHS of the Repubs having 24/7 center state media coverage with our party absolutely absent). My recollection is that the December Debate was the 4th debate, but I think there was also an MSNBC town hall which DWS allowed specifically because it was not a DEBATE.

Debbie Wassername was saying initially that we were not doing debates because then the American peeps would see how batshit crazy (I believe that's a direct quote... or, er, it was pretty close) the Republicans all are, which would drive the overwhelming hoards of voters to tick the box for HRC (because Democrats and independents have a long, time-honored history of showing up to vote AGAINST someone in her world, or something)

Clearly, she's not so fond of the pesky inclusiveness of our big tent or whatever, and she has not been convinced people will be motivated to show up to vote for Hillary based on what she's selling if our best strategy is to collect the dregs of those offended by the other side. Showing our own wares was distinctly NOT part of her plan for warming up for the primary. This still appears abjectly anti-democratic (as well as anti-Democratic) to me.

the BOE who was implicated in the NYC voter disenfranchisement (that affected my kid) $6.6 million for a dilapidated property in Manhattan on which she owed thousands of dollars in fines and apparently had no interest in selling up to that point (or no interested buyers). The mother ran for Senator of NY at the same time as Hillary and pulled out to give her the seat. when they insist on counting in the superdelegates in large part is to the "superdelegates" to stay in line? "Hillary is counting on you." Probably be harder for them to switch after dumping Shil for Obama last time around...guilty consciences and all.

I always thought (and might have heard) that the "superdelegates were put in after McCarthy almost won the nomination in 1968. They were introduced first in 1972 to see if the Party could avoid the spectacle of a snow white dove representing them against Tricky Dick. In '68, Humphrey was inserted to prevent McCarthy (say, maybe THAT's the McCarthy Barney Frank is referring to?) even though Humphrey hadn't run in any primaries and McCarthy won the popular primary vote. The rioting in the streets of Chi-town in '68 was a major embarrassment for the establishment as one might imagine. They NEVER wanted anything like that again. DWS spoke the truth...unwittingly, I am sure.

Also, watching him debate people is funny. He gets humorously bent out of shape when anyone starts to talk over him, and angrily demands that he be allowed to finish uninterrupted. I wonder what he thought about Hillary's debate performance during that one debate where she attempted to filibuster her way through it.
