...because you will--most certainly--NOT be able to review "fair and accurate coverage" of the Julian Assange story from the U.S. MSM....

And, if you want a firsthand education--a veritable world class review--of U.S. press censorship, just turn on your tv to your "regularly scheduled programming."

I just looked up the emails from Hillary clinton
and staff pertaining to Assange in her Wikileaks pages. Here's the link...

Yup, no mention of the government's illegal actions...
Just the "Crimes" he's supposedly charged with. Oh look, the Rape charges are back! Who would have thought it? Oh wait, no, they put that word "alleged" in there. Which means it's all cool. Don't even have to mention who's saying it. (That would be liars, but lying is now cool as long as you don't.... ARRGH. TAKE SOME NICKLEBACK, YOU FASCIST BASTARDS!!!)

I hear the United States
is an alleged rogue nation. Also an alleged fascist state, alleged to be someone it's not safe to do business with.
The United States is also alleged to be destroying life on the planet with its myopic promotion of fossil fuel economies.

Oh, so many allegations I want to share...
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
In other news, it is alleged
that George W. Bush committed election fraud twice, and never actually got elected at all. It's also alleged that in 2016 Hillary Clinton committed election fraud in the Democratic primary, and that a DNC staffer leaked internal DNC documents in reaction to this alleged election fraud, after which it is alleged that she, or someone working for her, murdered him.

Also being covered in Germany by Der Spiegel:

Sad to say, things have reached the point where I actually have slightly more trust in the right-wing populist party AfD than in “Relotius”-hoax-HQ Der Spiegel. Particularly when Der Spiegel does a Cold War 2.0, hit-job cover story like this declaring the AfD to be “Putin’s puppets”:

Yes, Bernie
Afaik, only Tulsi Gabbard of the 2020 candidates has spoken out against the arrest.
Bernie Sanders? Even Tucker Carlson has come out against what is happening.
24 hrs now and nothing from the Bernmeister. What courage.
Here is
Tucker Carlson commentary on the Assange arrest.
theAlso, Bernie's
Assange might be a red line issue for me. Tulsi has already passed the test. And did so without any qualifications or pol speak nuance and double-speak. She's showing why she leads the pack in my book.
Bernie is in danger of dropping out of my top 3.
Maybe it has something to do with Turkish women. . .
. . . . whose names Assange released?
Of all the serious candidates, has any addressed that issue?
I know that's not the main issue involved with his arrest, but please consider that we are in an era of gotcha politics.
They already figure they got Tulsi and Gravel. And looking at their polling numbers. . . . they are what they are.
Sorry, have no idea
Feel free to google Assange and Turkish women
And consider how Bernie will be pilloried if he isn't super careful about how he deals with the Assange situation.
If he miraculously wins the nomination, he's going to have to get the votes of Hillary supporters to win the general. In any case, the Hillary core is looking for every gotcha angle they can come up with in the meantime to stop him from getting the nomination.
That's just the way politics is, unfortunately.
Isn't it Trump and the Republicans who are being bipartisany
by continuing the
prosecutionpersecution of Assange begun by the Obama Administration?Assange sought refuge from the US with the Ecuadorians seven years ago. Trump wasn't President then.
This is interesting, because...
I was listening to a RT interview on air, with Joe Lauria of Consortium News, Ray McGoven VIPs and Sarah Flounders and according to Joe, Julian Assange was not charged under the Espionage Act because of the 'New York Times Problem'. (as we know they published the leaks as well)
So according to Joe, the conspiracy charge will be a lot harder to prove.
Not sure how to post a tweet here, but hopefully this will link to the RT interview.
Sarah also spoke about what we could/should do to help.

Another kind of New York Times problem:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Times_Co._v._United_States
That may be correct
Using the legal definition of conspiracy. I know there are at least two lawyers that are regulars here. I am not a lawyer. The big question is "is cracking a password illegal".
No, no, I think the big question is "is the Secrets Act, constitutional?"
Manning was guilty because when you get your clearance you swear under penalty of perjury to follow regulations. Off topic, "Did HRC ever swear that oath to get her clearance?" Isn't she guilty of some 33,000 counts of perjury? Liable for some 165,000 years in prison?
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Not even cracking a password.
An attempt to conspire to crack a password w Manning.
Here’s the indictment.
Line #25
https://www.scribd.com/document/405891169/Assange-Indictment-1#from_embed
Right, but a conspiracy to commit a legal act
is not illegal. So the password cracking has to be illegal for the conspiracy indictment to make sense. You can't indict me and my wife for conspiring to buy a new car. Conspiring to rob a bank, yes. We wouldn't even have to rob a bank. Taking one concrete step (i.e. casing the bank) is sufficient. You don't even need to attempt the qact, but there must be a concrete step, not just talk.
Lawyers, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
That’s why it’s a flimsy charge
and according to Joe Lauria, going to be harder to prove. (A thought crime)
And why I suspect the Swedes are reopening the honeypot charges, for back up.
The reason they went w conspiracy rather than espionage was because of the NYT problem.
That's different.

If you expose a country
governed by criminals and monsters, they will come for you.
What's disappointing is how few #Americans fail to understand that his arrest is a symbol of how little freedom we have left.
And for that we can thank the Corporate cheerleaders in the Corporate controlled media who put these criminals in office. They happily spread lies to distract and deflect. After all, they're getting theirs so screw the rest of us.
Ps. Thanks Bob.

Ironic that
today every legitimate jouralist worldwide SHOULD be coming to his side in support of his expose' of the brutal murder of fellow journalists at the hands of an American gunship.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Haven't seen it pointed out yet
In a great many places, 411 is the number to dial for information. More than a little ironic that Assange would be arrested on 4/11
Remember when sane people asked The Resistance...
WTF are you doing supporting giving Trump the Crazy Warmonger a huge defense budget and more security state powers. Why are you supporting the bombing of Syria and other countries?
And now, they in supporting the punishment of Assange, are giving Trump the power to arrest any journalist he wants, anywhere in the world he wants.
The two hands of the duopoly.
I'd say the right and left hands but "left" has lost all meaning.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Why blame only Trump?
We were at war with about seven Arab nations when he took office. As for Syria, after getting in a huff that Obama had not consulted Boehner* before taking action, Boehner and Pelosi then gave him the go ahead, after he humbled himself before them.
Did Obama draw a red line in the Syrian sand with disappearing ink?
*Because, as we all know, the Constitution says that the President must confer with the House Majority and Minority leaders before unconstitutionally starting a war--which isn't really a war unless there are "boots on the ground." /s
I don't think he's blaming Trump for this
He's ridiculing the people who said they were going to resist everything he wanted. Remember the pussy hat protests that were hijacked by the democrats and people connected to them? But the democrats support the things that Trump does just because he's following the neocon's wishlist.
Once they thought that he would start wars just to distract us from his problems, but when he bombed Syria they cheered. They are upset with his war against the press, but now they are cheering what he did with Assange today. This just shows how hypocritical people are when it comes to Trump.
This is different.
The Clintons want it too. Therefore the policy is good.
See how that works?

The only thing I would add
is that the pretexts to strip Assange of asylum are transparently phony and should not be taken seriously. Moreno is just another in a long line of pathetic Latin American kleptocrats who are willing to sell what remains of their souls to the US.
Correa put it rather more emphatically.

Didn't German Gestapo and SS murdered Jews on the base of legality of the German laws in the Third Reich ?
Very ashamed that Germany never has tried to offer Assange asylum and protection. Very, very sad day and concerning. I was once a little amazed that someone somewhere said that he wanted to piss on someone's grave. I am not anymore amazed and know whose grave I would like to piss on.
I hope Assange will survive this. That's when you have to start praying, even if you are not the praying kind.

"The UK must resist." I'm heartsick, but deeply admire his
fundamental righteousness in that moment.
Saw in some YouTube comments a couple of people say that he was holding a Gore Vidal book, "History of the National Security State." Don't know how anybody could see such a thing. But there was also a tweet (which strangely now I can't seem to locate) showing the contents of the instructions, including actual photos of them, to the British police on how to handle the taking of Assange as a prisoner "at all costs" or something.
Greenwald shredded this POS Neoliberal NPR clown for his obvious attempt to spread propaganda (listen to the end, in which GG tells him how to use Google to find how mainstream the idea was that Ecuador was acting in the US interests, to which the little lapdog immediately ended his segment with him):
Just heard an RT reporter saying the judge issued a scathing rebuke to Julian for skipping bail. Is this another example of how propaganda works, setting up the gauntlet?
Now Moreno is on getting all hostile about the incident and trashing Assange, impugning his integrity. What a fucking scumbag. Same with Theresa May and her minions in Parliament.
Can hardly keep up with all the speculation and hearsay.
Fucking fascist scum corporate collaborators. This makes the Truth inarguable that all world governments serve their financial and corporate masters first and foremost. Police are the pawns to enforce these travesties. Julian has exposed their machinations. So all modicum of justice & democracy will be shown to be a fraud for all the world to see.

It's a pity that during this critical moment RT is
going with this airhead, blond floozy, not unlike what we've been barraged by on the CNN/Fox/MSNBC axis.
She's not that informed, kind of sensationalist and as far as I can tell, though there has been so really great panels (e.g. with that Crossfire guy, of all people, who was actually pretty vociferous in defending Assange, that contained Ray McGovern and Joe Lumia (sp?)), they're intent on airing the opinions/views of the establishment a little too much.
(Addendum for clarity): I would have said exactly the same thing about any of the vapid, empty, male corporate media whores like Matt Lauer, Brian Williams, Chuck Todd, Tucker Carlson, et al. But it is a fact that Roger Ailes specifically made a mission of it to hire a certain type (de)based on ratings. The other networks have definitely been influenced. The RT host struck me in a similar way.

The old is new again
The American people slumber on in their dull, stupid sleep and encourage these fascist criminals; they give them the opportunity to carry on their destruction; and of course they do so. Is this a sign that the Americans are brutalized in their simplest human feelings, that no chord within them cries out at the sight of such deeds, that they have sunk into a fatal consciencelessness from which they will never, never awake?
Okay. I played a trick on everyone. The words above are not my words, other than I changed a couple of words. The original author was murdered for those words - legally murdered, but murdered just the same.
Here is the original:
I was reminded by Sophie's words in an article, The Controversial 1935 Nobel Peace Prize For Speaking Truth to Power at Jessie's Crossroads Cafe, where the original quote is posted as a preface to the article. Others here have urged everyone to read this article. Please do, folks - it's important.
This fits Americans to a T
So many people think that this country can do no wrong. The troops get scattered across the world raping and pillaging and killing innocents and get thanked for doing it when they come home. The government steals what belongs to we the people and give it to corporations and people say that it's okay because they create jobs for the rest of us. Trump is deregulating policies that were created for our benefit and people say it's okay because the regulations restrict the corporations from making profits.
But when someone stands up for what is right there are people who say they shouldn't be doing it. Ellsberg released the pentagon papers and many called him a traitor. Chelsea exposed heinous war crimes and people said that she broke the law and deserves to be punished for it. That she was tortured was considered okay because if you can't do the time don't do the crime. Snowden told us that the government was spying on and he too was called a traitor.
Our government and other country's government told all kinds of lies about Julian's behavior at the embassy. He doesn't bathe or clean up after himself. He doesn't clean his cat's litter box. He doesn't... He raped two women even though he didn't do that. He exposed what Hillary and the DNC did during the primary, but instead of people being upset about that they are upset that he told us. As others have said the PTB study us to see how much propaganda we will believe. So far it seems that we will continue to believe their lies no matter what it costs us.
" raping and pillaging "
You insult the fine people of the US armed forces with your false accusations, including my brother-in-law and my granddaughter-in-law. The US Army is not a Hun horde. Isolated incidents have undoubtedly occurred and occur DAILY in every US city by civilians.

War is always awful, and no military is "The Good Guy"
I did it because I wanted to get my kids back. I did. I also got disabled. The Army did right by me, and I tried to do right by the Army. I respect it, and wish that the men and women of the Army were used for better purpose, and trained in a manner that emphasized respect and minimizing harm...
But then we'd probably get something like this.

The purpose of the US military is to kill people.
Every single member of the armed services has agreed to cooperate in the execution of their fellow human beings (albeit human beings they do not know, permitting the necessary emotional distance) for reasons they cannot know, at the behest of people whose motivations are trivially shown to be, almost without exception, irredeemably evil.
It is a machine of murder -- implacable, amoral, unethical, remorseless, self-righteous murder. There is no honor to be found in serving. To suppose that there is, is simply to succumb to a lifetime's worth of energetic propagandizing directed at the populace by the psychopaths who run our society.

Jarring how similar Julian's persecution is with Carl Osseitsky. Also striking was how bamboozled the world was with Hitlers propaganda campaign. I should think reminding the people who are now swallowing up the U.S. Propaganda about our war machine, how easily mislead we were as a nation to Hitler's propaganda campaign might be instructive to their dumbfuckery now.

So scam-able
I have some pity on the average American in this regard. I know of no one who ever took a class on propaganda. Does such a thing exist? Doubtless, those engaged in advertising have been instructed in the religion of Bernays, and perhaps law courses cover it, but I've never seen it.
An open-minded study of history should reveal it, or even watching a few George Carlin videos, but for the most part it seems folks come to a knowledge of it through the school of hard knocks. Sadly, most likely begin to recognize it well only in their later years ... if then.
Those who wish to remain hidden behind the curtain possess no desire to see people wise to their machinations, hence there is no coverage in public education. The people suffer in ignorance and remain easily fleeced and bamboozled.
I doubt it's harder to propagandize Americans today than it was to propagandize Germans in the 30's. Probably easier.
Pity it isn't a course in school
It would certainly help people discern between what the media would like us to believe, and why.

Research needed
At some point I'd like to find the time to more thoroughly research the use of propaganda on the US population during WWI. I have read that the reason Bernays published Propaganda and chose the title he did was due to tremendous backlash from the American people, upon finding out that Bernays and his Creel Committee (aka, Committee on Public Information) had subjected them to knowing lies. I've read that Bernays book was a singular attempt to resurrect the term propaganda, and - basically - polish a turd.
One can rather easily find examples of American propaganda during WWI, but finding a record of American's disgust of having it used on them is a little tougher. Evidently, it was bad enough that Bernays felt he had to make a move once it was safe to pop his head up.
Yes! For Ossis (former E. Germans) the hard knocks lasted 40 yrs
Sadly, a large proportion of them vote RW populist now because they recognize the RW populists as being less reliant on everyone-living-in-happy-harmony propaganda (with which they are all too familiar) than the mainstream parties and media.
It's also getting harder and harder to tell
how many people are actually making their will save against the propaganda.
It's really bad, no doubt, but the fewer places people like us have to speak publicly, the harder it will be to tell how many of us there are.
There are other factors making it increasingly hard to tell as well, such as sockpuppets and operatives online, and the fact that Americans with our views are much likelier to simply withdraw from politics and stop talking about it at this point.

Of Course at TOP
There was a mob mentality when MB first posted the news about Assange's arrest. Most of the Villagers wanted Assange to "rot in hell" instead of bothering to find out what the charges were and didn't question why the feds had requested extradition. Too many of them did not know the CT charges were leveled at him and Chelsea Manning, who is in jail for taking the 5th about Assange's role. Here's an example of a Villager's choice comment.
I've been watching TYT's show this evening with the glee. From seeing TYT tweets today, I figured Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian were going to have a lively show, blasting the government for flimsy charges against Assange. They also ripped the media and Meghan McCain's for her loose comments on The View about Assange, calling him a "cyber-terrorist" and how the government should have dealt with Assange long ago. Of course, McCain blamed the Obama Administration for not charging him with conspiracy against the government, but added that the Dems didn't care about Assange until the DNC leaks were released. I tend to agree with McCain about the Dems. Someone on the View's panel countered McCain with that Assange's arrest pertains to First Amendment issues, but McCain refused to hear it.
Meghan McCain is a Warmonger like her late father. Coverup for crimes by our military. What happened to human rights and protection of our constitution?
On the TYT website's chat, someone posed this question:
I bet the Villagers would have cheered, still ignoring the underlying principle of a free press.
One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will. To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.--Tennyson
one note: Manning has not "taken the 5th".
She has not refused to testify on the grounds that she might incriminate herself, she has refused to testify on the grounds, more or less, that it's none of the government's damned business -- that they're persecuting Assange, and they want to make her complicit in that persecution.

accurate to say that Manning is remaining silent.
I just saw a new diary up at TOP about how the Fed's case against Assange is weak, but since he's no hero and isn't being charged with DNC hacking, Sweden should take a swing at him first for the rape charges in 2012.
Here's a Villager's choice reply.
I am wondering why Gitmo is still around.

what a horror show.
what hope can there ever be for humanity, when a large cohort of well-educated, literate adults who actively endeavor, on a daily basis, to collect and sift and contemplate information about the political state of the world, can be so collectively dumbfucked?

I would have said "a lynch mob", myself. What thinking person would want to called a leftist if it meant agreeing with TOP?
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
This is Sumner at his finest
He not only lied to the echo chamber about Assange being accused of rape, he also lied about Wikileaks being in bed with Russia. This guy has done more damage to truth than anyone else over there. He flat out lies to people there about everything on the Russian propaganda. I called him out on it once and you can imagine how that went over. I'm surprised I wasn't banned. It's not worth trying to get people to see what the truth is there because they have made up their minds.
Heard on PBS (WBEZ) this afternoon:
" Julian Assange is known to have been conspiring with Russian Intelligence, the GRU, to hack the DNC files to aid Trump" CLICK, I switched to "radio Classics" at that point.
The Bullshit continues.

I wonder if they got their strategy memo of talking points last night or this morning?

First note: not a peep from Bernie.
Second note: Tulsi Gabbard has been a rockstar standing up against our oppressors.
Yep.
Good thing I decided not to hold my breath.
