An Immodest Proposal --The Declaration of Interdependence

The original Declaration on Independence was signed in 1776 -- its 250th anniversary takes place on July 4, 2026. Virtually nobody in the country is satisfied with our society, but we are mainly at each others' throats about what is wrong or how to address it.

My own dissatisfaction is mainly about the absurdity of our politics. The two parties are in a non-stop booger flicking contest about who is more corrupt, trying to put each other in jail as they agree on most major issues. Both parties favored the policy set during Obama's term that led to sending humongous amounts of weaponry to Ukraine. Both parties are on board with Isreal's war on the people of Gaza. Both parties oppose Medicare for All.

The Democrats say they are fighting Trump as they shadowbox for the cameras putting out the constant message that they do not like what Trump is doing. Since they control neither House of Congress, there is nothing they can do about His Orangeness other than fuss and fume about how they are fighting against him with the full measure of fussing and fuming.

Speaking of Congress and the Federal Government, I just looked up how much it costs to influence Congress and the Executive Branch. Wiki on total campaign expenditures. From the year 1998 through 2022, total costs came to $81.9 Billion.

Politicians have to raise that kind of money to get elected. That is why nothing ever changes in the Federal Government, other than individuals getting fired.

We the people can resist. We know we are getting conned by the two party system which is for sale to the highest bidder. This con job keeps us separated into rival cults of personality.
We need to reunite as a society.

We need a new set of self evident truths for our disintegrating society.

I suggest that there be a March on Washington on July 4,2026 to present the Declaration of Interdependence to the White House and the Congress and the Supreme Court.

Text to be developed. Unity, Peace and Civil Liberty plus what else?

Of course this Let's Take it to Broadway fantasy has no chance of ever becoming reality. I offer it as my response to my own challenge of what would be a practical protest look like?

This would be billed as a First Step.

I'm hoping for a counter culture of people who understand that infinite greed is not good and fuck Gordon Gekko.

I'm asking for Blue Sky Ideas.

My labor leader father used to say, "We need to dream big so if we accomplish ten percent of our fantasy, we'll really do something good."

Love your neighbour.

@janis b The strangest aspect of the money revolution in American public life has been the disappearance of political activity by religious leaders. This did not seem to me to be a bad thing as it was happening -- as an agnostic Democrat who recalls when Pat Robertson was a contender for the GOP Presidential nomination. But now I think that Christianity's influence on our culture was not all bad. Humans need a sense of community, and we have none in 2025.

Martin Luther King emphasized that aspect of his religion as the Civil Rights movement successfully put an end to White Supremacy as normalcy.

Today, when our political leadership actively agitates for mutual hostility between the Red and Blue Cults, we need a unifying value system analogous to religion.

The admonition to love your neighbor is a great starting point.

I cried when I wrote this song. Sue me if I play too long.

@fire with fire

and quite easily accessible. I think in these more trying times, just a little more individual effort can be precious.
