Friday Photography - Lizardly
Submitted by janis b on Fri, 09/14/2018 - 5:36pm
Don’t know this lizardly visitor, but appreciated its appearance.
I would have had a beautiful portrait to post of a Roseate Spoonbill lit by the setting sun, making its rose colour really rosey, with an even more intensely coloured reflection in the water, but I mistakenly deleted it from my camera. Oh, well.
Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend. Post away ...

Meet Todd again
Todd is looking at Abby and she was acting like she wanted to play with her. Abby didn't think that was a good idea though.
Ninja Squirrel and friends
Sorry to hear about your deleted photo, Janis. I've done that more than once. Nice shot of the lizard.

Hi snoopy, Hi Todd
Abby knows best!
How did she get the name Todd?
I will ask next time I see her
She is never outside by herself. I got distracted by trying to keep my dawgs from bolting and getting photos of her. She appears young and very playful. She did that "play with me" jig and jag that dawgs do. She is very beautiful in person and I hope next time I can pet her.

I know that play with me jig, jag.
It's such a genuine expression of excitement. I hope you get to touch her. Making contact eventually would be wonderful.
Now just wait a gaul durn minute there bucko
question everything
I love the rhino adorned with a peacock tutu.
Maybe Abby was intimidated
by Todd's amazing tail. Oh, look, over there, squirrrrrrel.....

I wish that there was a backstory on what he was doing before the picture was taken. There are some amazing photos of animals and places on the guardian at times.

Off for a walk, but retrieved from camera cards:
That lizard reminds me of a Bollox Minor toy.

Hi Bollox, the lizard does sort of look rubbery.
How come there's no evidence of the water the lily is blossoming in except for the drops on its leaves? Mysterious.
It's fake news from Minnesota

Hi, Janis! Thank you for hosting tonight's OT,
and for the cool lizard pic!
You and SD must be mind readers, since my contribution is also an animal shot--a 'wild horse,'
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Always loved horses. Growing up, we never had one; but, as an adult, my Brother got one that he boarded at a stable (he was a city dweller). Rode him once--didn't go too well!
Having a worse problem than usual typing [due to arthritis], so, I'll close by saying 'thanks' to all of our excellent C99 photographers for sharing photos, tonight.
Have a nice, and safe weekend, All . . .![Pleasantry](https://caucus99percent.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/pleasantry.gif)

Thanks Mollie, for the gorgeous horse photo.
Like your brother, I once rode a horse that didn't end well, but I still think they're magnificent.
Any closer to adopting a new dog to love? I'll look for your answer when your fingers are feeling more cooperative.
Thank you , Janis--wish I could see
the horse! I am truly baffled, because although Firefox does not allow me to view 'Tweets,' it's the only browser that allows me to post the code that Twitter uses. IOW, I post using Firefox, view using Chrome. This evening, though, for whatever reason, Chrome isn't allowed me to view the Tweet (except in text paragraph form). Can't tell you how upsetting that is, since, now I won't be able to tell if a Tweet is posting correctly (unless someone comments to me, as you have). Gonna have to find/download another browser, I guess.
Anyhoo, one of my sentences was poorly constructed. I meant to convey that 'I' rode Al's quarter horse, only once. It scared the stew out of me, and I had practically no control of him. But, I think they're gorgeous--and sweet--animals.
Still working on finding another 'special friend.' Partly due to the situation with 'the B'--he was a 'special needs' dog, and I was literally 'joined at the hip' with him for 10-1/2 years--I've had to take more time than usual (to grieve). Plus, it's the only time in going on 42 years, that we haven't had at least one dog, when another one passed away.
In the end, I think it's only fair to a new dog, for me/us to have those feelings worked out. Obviously, he/she will be entirely deserving of our full love and devotion. Rest assured--you Guys will be among the first to hear, when we know for sure what we're going to do!
If all goes well, it'll be by year's end. Fingers crossed!
Hope you're still having a nice visit with Family.
Will have to ask Folks to please overlook typos, etc. This has been one of the worse days for errors, that I can recall!

You are so right to give grief its time, and to give your next dog your full love and devotion, which can only be freely given when your feelings are clear and resolved, as you have expressed. I wish we could exchange a real hug.
Thanks, Janis--see the horse, now. Guess I'd
best check out the Twitter html code. I must have made an error when I copied and/or pasted it, since I'm viewing your horse in my Chrome-based browser.

Pogonip?
This is very cool design. What's the story on it? I miss California oaks. Some of the areas I traveled that were full of them have burned. The fires around Santa Rosa last year burned a scenic area that I drove through on my way to the beach. I can't imagine what it looks like now.

Laysan Albatross - about 50 miles west of California. With a 7' wingspan, they can fly all day without flapping, doing circles around the boat. Most nest on Midway and Laysan Isls., but they are regular at the edge of continental shelf.

An American Bittern was knocked down by the rains here this week. Usually they are in a patch of reeds and essentially invisible. Go to xeno-canto and put American Bittern in the search box, then select some returns clicking on the number at right, and then play when they comes up. Thunderpumper was a great old colloquial name for them.

Evening Janis, everyone
Hey Janis, I think your lizard is a green iguana. My husband had one as a pet once years ago. Very cool and prehistoric-looking!
I don't have anything to add this week; snapped a few photos but haven't uploaded them yet. Not a lot of bird activity anyway. There was a roseate spoonbill seen here in MN a few weeks back, near the twin cities. It was only there for one day, and I missed it. Even made the local news!
Cheers all.
This shit is bananas.
You're right, it's a green Iguana according to the following ..
From this link I think the perfect circle below the eye and ear is a cheek scale ... "Some biologists speculate that it is used as a 'bluff' eye to ward off predators. When the iguana gets into protective mode and extends its dewlap, the cheek scales becomes more prominent and can possibly look like a large eye to a predator."
They sound like interesting pets.
Is a dewlap like a ditty wop bop?

Pre-War/ late 1930's Silver King (Aluminum alloy) bicycle that I used to actually ride around, (soon to be refurbished) and my beloved and terminally ill Chupe' who has been my best friend for almost 15 years.
And one of my jobsites as a Union Carpenter, up on the 24th floor rooftop..
p.s. Uploading images is a real chore here...
Hi BORG
I'm glad you persevered and posted the two photos.
Chupe is beautiful and so soft looking in his difficult state. I know how much you'll miss him, I'm sorry.
Where on earth is that rooftop?
@janis b @janis b
Hi Janis, thanks.
Chupe' is a girl. I have to end her suffering within the next one or two weeks. It's really tearing me up, it's just been me and her all these years. No serious g/f or even dates for quite some time...
The roof top is downtown Seattle. The Space Needle is directly to the right of the crane tower in the middle of the pic. I had to reduce the file down to 2MB to even upload it, then it was automatically resized to just 500 pixels wide. Looks like a few people know how to upload lager pics. I'll look into at some point when my life is a little less pressured.
--Robert
Hi Robert,
I really feel for you and Chupe', and wish for the time you have left together to be as loving as possible. My sister, who also lives in Seattle, is right now going through a similar process with her beloved dog of 14 years.
All the best to you both,
Janis

Hi eyo
It's painful to look at, but it's so important that the public is reminded of the immeasurable suffering of others. Art and literature are such valid expressions of that.
I really like the photo of Lady's eye holding you in her vision. The shape and light and colours are very engaging and really draw the viewer close to something mysterious. Thank you.
