Granddaughters

Granddaughters

As I write, I worry about your futures

cause aspirations of two women, queens to be,

children of presidents,

Ivanka and Chelsea

dominate your playgrounds of artifical turf

lifted by money and the media it affords

seeping into the conscious of millions

overwhelmed by closets of red shoes

They may inherit the crown

Vegas bets so

I remember when gas was 19 cents a gallon and coke a nickel

and bare feet hugged the paths forward...

some hearts were better then but not sustained

Now, we have shoes

soulless treads tweeting upon democracy

marching to the Wall Street Blues

Is as it’s forever been, seems so from history

building more roads, makes more traffic

progress moves forward in many lanes

urbane

but not Erte

not touching the grass

not feeling the spirit

not being human

insane

No more paying dues

reading for degrees

painting canvases

searching for the truth

it’s drive through, now

the queen’s wisdom

dismissing millions of girls toiling in gardens, digging the earth for knowledge hoping for brighter days

Daughters,

be not persuaded by royal blood or fear

bought

and paid

instead

draw the sword from the stone

read and read some more

cast off the worn shoes causing sores

open hearts to distant shores

and rest not

in feeding love

sharing nipples of sunrise milk, moon shadow

breeding decency into the womb

of metamorphosis

and like a butterfly

hover higher than the castle wall and

see that you are not alone.

@HenryAWallace

I've also noticed your positive and sincere support and contribution around here.

From the little I've read of Henry Wallace, I believe you have chosen a very fitting man to identify with.

@janis b

Democrats thought Wallace was too liberal to run with FDR when FDR might not live out his term.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

He licked his wound by becoming a billionaire.

Smile

But...then he wrote a book saying he had been wrong about certain things, something I learned only after registering at KOS under this name. I never read the book. I hope it doesn't say anything I can't live with while I use his name.

@mhagle Do not let them follow the elite pathways. I have two responsible young adults. Wish the same for yours.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Adding prose to this will improve your poetry not at all; it is already complete.

So in honor of "closets of red shoes"

I saw this earlier today and thought of how my granddaughter has yet to learn our ways and now I hope she never will.

When it was time to check out, ... the cashier looked befuddled over why a white girl would want a black doll.

Was it a gift for a birthday party? Did Sophia pick it out for a friend?

Nope, Sophia confirmed. The doll was for her and it was definitely the one she wanted.

The cashier replied, 'But she doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you.'

I immediately became angry, but before I could say anything, Sophia responded with, 'Yes, she does. She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?'

Thankfully the cashier decided to drop the issue and just answer, 'Oh, that's nice.'

I no longer tell people I am "colorblind" because too many people are assholes, and will never understand me or my progeny.

@PriceRip
education.
So many seemingly heartless beings sharing our space; hell, my mother's family are cruel "Christians" beyond belief.

So glad you are here, my friend.
