Open Thread - 01-24-25 - People Don't Get What They Deserve

The constitutional principles of separation of powers and a co-equal tripartite government are out of balance. The president has become too powerful. Congress has abrogated too much of its power to the executive branch. The president can unilaterally declare war and essentially allocate funding by edict (executive orders). Presidents can now ignore Supreme Court decisions with no consequence. It seems like each subsequent president grabs more power and then flaunts that power in the face of the people along with blatant in-your-face corruption, which now seems the norm.

Hey, watch this everybody.

The last week in politics is a prime example of the overly powerful and corrupt presidency. I'm now firmly set in my belief that we are not governed by representatives of the people, but rather by a syndicate of warring crime families.

The Joe Biden administration was surely, in my mind anyway, one of the most corrupt in American history, if not the most corrupt. Only a true believer would argue that point. We've all seen the reports, we've all witnessed it in real time. I'm not going to go into any detail about that, it would only be redundant anyway, except to lay the premise for what comes next.

The topping on the Biden ice cream cone of unbridled corruption was his flipping off his crooked finger to the American people. The path is now clear, unless addressed by law, for a lawless president to preemptively pardon any or all partners in crime, back to a time of their choosing. What a super power to have, it is good to be the king. I have doubts that the newly crowned king will do anything about it, heck, he may want to exercise that super power for himself along with his friends and family.

Here, hold my beer.

For the want of interrupting the flow of corruption, the new president, Donald Trump, has already marked his territory right before taking office. His new crypto currency meme coin, $Trump and his wife's meme coin, $Melania, are, in my opinion, an embarrassment and a new low for the presidency. The tens of billions of dollars siphoned up in just a few days is a testament to what the presidency has devolved into, a platform for personal wealth. At least their meme coins are funded by private individuals, both from this country and around the world. Whereas the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve that Donald Trump is advocating for would be funded by the taxpayer, our hard earned money.

A rug pull by the $Trump and $Melania crypto coins would make the few at the top fabulously wealthy and the vast majority below the top would be up the creek without a paddle. That's the price they would pay for gambling with their money. A rug pull by the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve would leave taxpayers holding the bag. That's the price we would pay for politicians gambling with our money.

Trump's Stargate Project, a $500 billion dollar investment of taxpayer money for artificial intelligence and and data centers will be a massive boon for the tech industry. There's no chance for any corruption there, don't you agree [insert eye roll here]? Where's all the electricity going to come from to power these data centers? How about the massive amount of water it takes to cool them? How much of my personal data will be stored there? We can't let China get ahead of us in technology, don't you know?

What about Doge? Wasn't it supposed to cut back on government waste and cut out unnecessary programs and departments? Here, right out of the box, we add another $500 billion to the deficit, or will Stargate be funded by cutting back on monies allocated for the people of this nation. That's government efficiency for you right there!

The corrupt don't get what they deserve, but We the People get it good and hard.

I don't trust Trump's executive order ban on CBDCs as well. It's convenient red meat for his true believers, right at the moment when there's really no need for them. But, in the future, if the dollar loses out as the world reserve currency and an economic collapse befalls us then CBDCs may very well come into vogue and the ban could be reversed. People may be so desperate to put food on the table that they'll beg for them. Big time!

Maybe that's what the data centers are for.

I've taken a few days away from site building, don't want to burn myself out. Back at it next week.

@JtC Hola JtC. I saw your Tech Upgrade Status answer to my question. Thanks. This corruption has been going down easily since Trick the Dick Nixon. Naturally, the slow destruction of our once excellent Public Education is a BIG part of the scumbags' plan. Project 2025? Don't make me laugh. Just go back and read The Powell Memo from 1971. Same exact plan easily spelled out in 2 pages. I am beyond disgusted. I'm old and just laugh/ignore it. Climate change crisis is on-going, and Nature could care less about some stupid greedball bunch of bipeds and their swollen bank accounts. Rec'd!!

the US finds itself in, and the West writ large, is the fault of the political class' inability to rein in its spending, $36 trillion debt at the moment and growing exponentially. If they want to point fingers they must look in a mirror. If the financial system collapses it is they that are at fault.

The politicians live in largess as the common folk struggle to make ends meet.

Donald Trump was one of the largest spenders in his first term and is showing no signs of slowing down in his second. What does he care, it's not his money he's spending.

It all makes perfect sense

Conquer Greenland, set-up the
'data centers' there, build a nuke

Transfer the data using Musk satellites

The only separation of power left is BRICS vs.

Yes, we live in a corrupt oligarchy, and I can't see a way out of the mess we've created.

At least there's some entertainment value watching TDS heads exploding.

Did y'all get any snow? It was south of us, but looked like a good one.

PS. Thanks for the OT!

been corruption in politics, but it's undeniable that it's really gotten out of hand with the last few administrations. Every subsequent administration is worse then its predecessors. It doesn't bode well for We the People since we're bankrolling most of it.

I can't remember an administration that left the country in better shape after they left, although I guess that's a relative equation.

We missed the heavy snow, we only got about an inch and a half that melted the next day. It got pretty cold though.

I see where the gulf coast got a lot of snow, 8 or 9 inches in Gulf Shores. The pictures were surreal.

otc and I went to a neighboring town to visit a local pub that featured karaoke. There was a particular gentleman, quite inebriated, that fashioned himself to be Neil Diamond. He even introduced himself to us as Neil Diamond. When he'd take his turn at the microphone it was always an absolute terrible rendition of one of his songs, and I'm being generous when I say "terrible".

It was really hilarious and the audience would clap and cheer and egg him on. It was a riot and worth the trip just to see him.

Some guys become superman when they've had too much to drink and then there are those that turn into superstars, in their own minds anyway. He was of the latter persuasion.

this morning. Had a nice, early appointment. Showed up early for it, checked in and filled out all their annual paperwork, and they took my co-pay. Watched as they ran 15 or 20 other patients through the office. Sat there for 3 hours after my appointment time, waiting to be called. Never happened.

So I walked back up to the desk, and asked why I hadn't been called. They informed me that I hadn't checked in, and had therefore been declared a no-show. I showed them the receipt for my copay, with the timestamp of half an hour prior to my appointment time, and asked them "So how, if that is true, do I have this receipt? You've been staring at me sitting there twiddling my thumbs for 3 hours, and you never thought to *ask*?".

They hemmed and hawed and told me that, oopsie, oh, well, they could fit me in in two weeks. I told them "Tell the good doctor that his services are no longer required. Good day.", and left.

The office has now called me three times, since I walked out. There will be no third strike. I can't *wait* for them to send me the no-show bill...

Said ex-neurologist miscoded the blood work that he had done on me, so United Healthcare denied the claim as "not medically necessary".

I just paid it. It isn't worth the time it would take to argue it, at this point.

I recommend The China Academy for insights and snappy answers to all these questions and concerns..

The China Academy is, in my opinion, the most exciting new online publication to come along in years. It's full of geopolitical surprises by Asian academics and journalists, who are finally flexing their cutting-edge intelligence for a global audience. They don't have all the answers yet. (Westerners are much weirder that they ever imagined.) But they are growing more informed and astute by the day. What's even more interesting to me, is that the invited contributors from the West, who are featured as founding contributors to The China Academy, are the very same podcaster experts who are regularly featured and interviewed at C99 — both in the Evening Blues and Sunday's Weekly Watch.

All of the heated issues that are being discussed and lied about in the Western media are also debated in The China Academy, with surprisingly strong data and transformational differences — topic by topic.

For example, this topic:

Biden’s Grand AI Gift to China

Before the United States realizes that sanctioning China further will harm its own interests, it will continue unwittingly aiding China.

.
As always, an enlightening counterpoint. What's unfolding around us is the greatest civilization drama in the modern age. I can't believe we get to witness it as it happens. The things we've seen!

starkest cultural differences is how they treat the corrupt. In China the corrupt go to prison or executed. In the US they are celebrated and advance up the ladder, even to the presidency.

Maybe we should try China's method.

This just feels, in retrospect, inevitable. Each party has the same aims...power. Wealth without needing to produce anything of value, just fluffing the ultra wealthy and corporations for some of their spare change. It's the bread and circus shows they put on that are different. It's all high fructose politics for us masses, and we lapped it up. I wonder how many of us they'll keep around. How many peasants are needed to have an election anyway, three?

three voters left to vote in an election but there'll be many more than three ballots cast from the graveyard.

There are so many ways to keep us divided and most of them work. They know that formula very well.

And these rival gangs fight in the proverbial back rooms outside of our view. Sometimes some reporters like Taibbi expose them, but the news comes and goes. One I remember but unfortunately cannot find articles when Walmart and retail giants went up against the financial services sector for raising processing fees on credit cards, etc. Walmart was winning the battle but then Obama admin came in and declared for the banksters. (Sorry forgot the specifics.)

Gore Vidal came out long ago and complained about the uniparty. But the thing is, as you say, there are warring factions among the overlords.

@MrWebster
of the movie The Godfather. A case in point is how a parade of major players made their way to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the hand of the Don. I can see it in my mind, Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates entering a dark room, hat in hand, nervously approaching the Don's desk, head down, tail between the legs (yes, they both have tails), asking for forgiveness for their transgressions, mewling their new found fealty for their new master while asking for retribution against their rivals. As Luca Brasi watches from behind a curtain, piano wire in hand.

I'm pretty sure that's how it plays out. They're all snakes in a den.
