Good morning, folks!

First, I'd like to thank everyone who has posted supportive, kind words during Kate's two hospitalizations. I'm happy to report that her kidneys did NOT shut down, and that they therefore did NOT have to put her on instant dialysis via a pic in the neck, which can kill you. (It did, in fact, kill her sister unexpectedly last April, so, as you can imagine, this was especially stressful.)

Even better, the kidney team at the hospital is on the same page we are. A hospital nephrologist asked Kate, "So, why don't you already have a dialysis port?" Kate replied, in her best frosty, New England manner, "That is a question to which I have not yet received an adequate answer." The hospital nephrologists are going to talk with Kate's own nephrologist about why she should [have received a dialysis port six months ago] get on dialysis. She has an appointment on the 24th to discuss putting the port in, and Nick has said he's not leaving the appointment until the process is well and truly booked.

I'm wiped out this week, so once again, no real essay. But I've already started my next one, picking up from where I left off the last time I ventured Outside the Asylum. Next week I won't be here; I'll be flying back from Maryland. But I'll make sure y'all have a real essay of some kind to look at. Promise.

And now, some tunes!

If you listen to one of these songs, listen to this one:

I don't think my body and brain have fully absorbed the relief yet--still kind of on alert. But it is great news--pretty much the best we could have gotten.

Oh, and they did not find any arterial blockages. Funny that I didn't even include that in the body of the OT! That shows you how little I believed her heart problems were due to a blocked artery.

We've been watching Big Dreams, Small Spaces, an excellent British gardening show, so we're getting inspired to garden. That made the rain all the more welcome.

For those who don't know, in this kooky place I call home, Aug/Sept is a time when many people START their gardens rather than putting them to bed. Summer is actually harder for many plants--most of the time (occasionally, here in N Florida, we get hard freezes still, so it's not a hard-and-fast rule.) I always start to feel like putting in a garden around mid to late August.

I think she is thoroughly pissed off with what happened here on C99p and I think from how she explained things to me that she has all the reasons to be.

Too many people feel it's not worth anymore to talk about peace here, as nobody cares anyhow.

I share two sentences she wrote and I hope she forgives me: "I am now sixty, still swirling the poverty bowl, growing flowers in my dirt patch" and "Since Big Al got banned, and I got scolded for shill accusations, I don't bother myself to try talking here about peace anymore, nobody cares. ~shrug~"

Too many people left, were made to leave or gave up. I think the latter might be the case most often.

I suspect that this site had been threatened someone with the Russian Gulag and no Tulsi Gabbard-style folks came to the rescue (that's my suspicion, I have no facts to back that up)

I am sure eyo needs help and I would like to start a fundraiser for her. I don't know how to do this, because I am not allowed to share her email or name.

So, anybody who knows how to get her the help she needs without violating her privacy and dignity, let me know.

and as I have lost my mind, that's all I have to go by.

I also could attach an MRT (Magnetresonanztomographie) of my brain and call Alligator Ed to analyze it for you. It says among other, that I have a "Mikroangiopathie Grad II nach Fazekas" and a higher brain volume loss than normal for my age. The whole right part is damaged and leaking fluid, which caused loss of my sense of smell on top of it. It also makes me not able to ride a bike and make a right turn. Which really sucks, because I have no car and a knee which doesn't let me walk normally. So, gawd damnit, I am a little impatient.

So, there you have it all explained. In other words, my life and brain turned into utter bullshit and it shows in my comments. I try poop out all that bullshit, which again make my guts act up.

C'est la vie. I will find solutions to my problems. NO worries. I am a fighter. I will turn to normal again.

I come back to this incidence in this thread after a couple of days.

It caused me to re-read the original "Dreaded Site Meta" links for the New Members to remind me what the premise of the C99p site was or is.

I am back in Germany as of October 2016. Unwanted and forced into that move by personal, private and family reasons, I became a dick and a German Asset of the unwanted kind. At the time I was moving, I didn't yet know about Trump's election victory. In hindsight the following incidences, Trump's election, the Democratic Party Elite's betrayal and my unwanted transfer to Germany after 34 years living in the US, and slowly understaning what Germany had become during my long absence of altogether 39 years, made me a dick.

We all have limits and we all have a life. Different ones. I claim here that I think I am an unprofessional expert in understanding the difficulties to understand limits and lives of different folks with different cultural and language background. That makes me a super-duper dick and a person without a country and without a family. But these two things are needed to not become a dick. I mixed up C99p as a substitute family and a substitute 'home country' and poured into this place emotions that were not understood (or welcomed for the most part), but generously tolerated. For that I thank you.

Nothing for Ungood. I might be a dick, but I am not a bad person. I might not have understood the premise of this site, or if I have, I admit that I started to have doubts that the premise could be uphold and maintained. Forgive me for my doubts.

Again Nothing for Ungood. And it was helpful for me to read the comments of the original three 'Dreaded Site Meta' pages.

You may be impulsive, and as a result offensive at times, but you’re not a dick. A dick, in my opinion is someone who is intentionally offensive. That is not you, as I know you. Self-reflection is something we all need to keep developing to prevent dickishness, and you’re not alone in that endeavour. Containing oneself is an effort well worth cultivating. It provides those critical moments necessary between reacting and reconsidering. I’m always amazed at the difference a moment makes.

You and Cohen make me cry.

Come Healing
Leonard Cohen

O gather up the brokenness
And bring it to me now
The fragrance of those promises
You never dared to vow
The splinters that you carry
The cross you left behind
Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind
And let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb
Behold the gates of mercy
In arbitrary space
And none of us deserving
The cruelty or the grace
O solitude of longing
Where love has been confined
Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind
O see the darkness yielding
That tore the light apart
Come healing of the reason
Come healing of the heart
O troubled dust concealing
An undivided love
The heart beneath is teaching
To the broken heart above
Let the heavens falter
Let the earth proclaim
Come healing…

I will take these words to heart.

This is what always makes me think that I should get together with more people outside the Net. It's really weird to have people vanish in the way that they do on the Internet.

There was an awesome guy from DKos days that disappeared for a long time. To my shame, I can no longer remember his handle, but, when he saw how the issue of race was being used against progressives, he put his own baby picture up as his icon, to show that a black person was actually siding with them. That wasn't the only way in which he was awesome. He was a little like native in that I don't recall him ever fighting with anyone, and whenever he spoke, what he said was to the point.

Whether they've checked in or not, I guess only JtC knows. NCTim's last post and/or essay was a month ago and eyo at the end of August. Sucks not knowing whether RL has dealt them a blow or what. Yes, real life ... although for some I wonder whether living in the ether hasn't replaced RL.

My wife often lets the television run in the background, sound totally muted. Usually, it's set to one of two channels – a cooking network and MTV Classic Videos. All muted and silent. When MTV is on, running twenty year old music videos, I'm shocked at how much has changed so quickly. With the sound omitted, I am studying the scenes. The phones all have curly cords attached, televisions are huge boat-anchors with small screens, cars are as big as whales, typewriters are present. If people are shown talking to one another, they're usually on the front porch steps, in a little restaurant, walking side-by-side down a sidewalk. No cellphones, no Internet, no computers. None.

Sometimes I really do wonder what it would be like to turn it all off. It would be strange now. For instance, my dear wife is in the next room "conversing" with her brother who happens to be in Australia at the moment. Photos are being sent, text flying back and forth. Hard to imagine not having that now.

except in extreme cases.

For instance, with some sadness, I gave up on the idea of visiting Turkey, and I think subsequent events have more or less justified that. I'm not sure it will ever be safe enough for me to visit there.

Colombia freaks me out because Colombians themselves need a military escort to go to the beach, apparently. Not going there, although it looks beautiful.

Jamaica? I don't know. Is it a danger to person or property they were talking about? Although one can turn into the other...

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal petty theft stuff or kidnaps and assaults, etc...
Since they go everywhere, I am sure they meant serious criminal activity.
I had a great time in Turkey, and one of my all time favorite tours was a 13 day tour of Columbia.
I got to Turkey just as Erdogan was getting into NATO, so everyone was playing pretty nicely. I got to Columbia before we got all bat shit about Venezuela. The tour director and I had a long chat about being cooperative with the US at the Venezuela border. I gave him various articles to read, and he said he had a lot to think about.
I also had a blast in Honduras. And Guatemala twice. And was in Thailand when the military took over. My hotel in Bangkok was just a few blocks from the mass protests.
The country I will no longer consider touring is India. I would still go to Egypt, but only if I go with a top notch company, and only with a very experienced traveler. My only roommate volunteer is not capable of going to Egypt without getting into some trouble. My experienced pals have already been, and not a single one has the least interest in returning, which says a lot.
Recently, a couple of weeks after I visited Ecuador, all hell broke loose there.
I have been very lucky. I book these trips almost a year in advance.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal @Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal screwing around with Syria, they have had tremendous tensions with Armenia as well.
My preferred tour company is Gate 1 Travel.
Their priority is safety.
They did not start offering Egypt tours until a year or so ago. They took it off their roster for about a decade.
They are still offering tours to Turkey.
When they take the tours off their roster, I will certainly get their message.
Since I have been there, Turkey is not high on my list of places to see again.
I have listened to tour directors get calls, then pass along the info to a bus driver, then to an announcement for a detour around protests or some such.
At no time, ever, have I been confident I could go to Turkey on some independent tour. I would, absolutely, go on a Gate 1 escorted tour if they gave it the green light.
edit: I recently tour Armenia and Georgia. Georgia is not loving Russia. WWIII just might kick off there.

At least somewhat anyway.

I grew up down in Miami and one of the Herald reporters used to like to tell a story about how he was visiting one of the Central American countries (can't remember for sure which one anymore) back in the 80s or 90s that had been embroiled in a bitter civil war for something like 25 years at the time, and when one of the locals asked where he was from and he told them, "Miami," they recoiled in horror, "We would never go there!
