Democratic Pin-up girl! Alexsandria Ocasio-Cortez: who is she really?
The wide-eyed wonder of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when talking or public speaking yields inconveniently slanted reportage. On the right, the current line that AOC can't put together a decent sentence. This is nonsense. Whatever one may think of her policies, most all of them are or were Progressive. Campaigning for progressives by AOC did not yield any benefit. But I wonder about the districts in which she campaigned. Probably in similar districts, in which she did not campaign, the success ratio may have been the same.
I disagree with abolishment of ICE. Put what else in place? Yet I concur almost 100% with her platform. Aspects not sufficiently promoted are, concentrating deeply into the subject--"What are your stances on social benefit versus armaments on another?" The nice thing is that this is a cleanly worded question, capable of simple answers. The answer duration time is directly equal to its real truth content.
Without a plethora of knowledge of her, the rest mainly acquired by some YouTube or Fox video clips, this still needs to be said:
John McCain dies, belatedly. AOK eulogizes him in a tweet. Question: can a public electronic message (and therefore immortal) be considered funereal?

US House candidate, NY-14
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Retweeted Washington PostJohn McCain’s legacy represents an unparalleled example of human decency and American service. As an intern, I learned a lot about the power of humanity in government through his deep friendship with Sen. Kennedy. He meant so much, to so many. My prayers are with his family.
Here is the essential challenge she made
Regardless of ideology there are matters of science, empathy (social science) which are beyond dispute. One adopts principles because...reasons. Once there upon attempting to enter political life one should develop a program for action. Or a vision of the future. This message should be clear as enunciated to the public, especially during an electoral campaign. The political stance adopted by here is unknown.
Does AOC really adhere to the beliefs so stated during and after her campaign. Does she really have a tough-minded approach to progressivism? So, how interpret this dilemma: a puzzle with a pair of incontrovertible evidential aspects--she has real respect for a cheat and liar OR she lied
Conclusion: AOK is actually a war-mongerer...or...a hypocrite who seems unapologetic for this eulogaic comment.
I am sick of Bullshit. Isn't she really so malleable now will later contort without resistance. This thought isn't mine: Is not she being pushed up the success ladder in an Obama-like manner. In a Hopey-Changy like scam? Are any going to say anything about the depth of her proffered opinions? I'm not. Couldn't vote for her if I could.

I thought she was a bartender?
And that she came out of nowhere ...
Am I missing something about her history? When did she do that?
Is not she being pushed up the success ladder in an Obama-like manner. In a Hopey-Changy like scam?
If she had been an intern and not just a "bartender" as we've been told then yes she is a Hopey-Changy scam sequel .
Update:
Thanks for those who let me know her history. I haven't been paying much attention to her.

She was an intern for Ted Kennedy, it’s in her bio
She did work as a bartender and waitress, but that certainly wasn’t the whole story. Interesting part is, this isn’t new info, I read it shortly after she won the primary. But it’s funny how her early political ambitions and involvement with the dem party have been erased from almost all media coverage. She’s now considered an outsider socialist bartender, who came up right outta nowhere! Heh.
".. and became a community organizer.."
Where have I heard that before.

I don't object to the term pin up girl.
I agree with the comment above about the Colbert appearance being a dead giveaway.

"Is not she being pushed up the success ladder in an Obama-like manner. In a Hopey-Changy like scam?"
According to this, she was also an intern to Ted Kennedy. It might have contributed to her current perspective on politics.
In many ways it is naturally human to reach for the ideal. She may be a current incarnation of that ideal; but if we continue, in our legitimate cynicism to squash anything for not being perfect, are we not also defeating any momentum for possibility? This is a legitimate question in my mind.
amen, with one query ...
not sure from our armchairs that we have a legitimate cynicism.
We of course have cynicism, naturally.
Feel we should step back a flight or more and direct the discussions to improving the human condition instead of throwing stones at those risking all they are to carry the burden for us.
It's ironic in a way
that our natural cynicism requires throwing stones at those who carry the load.

She's perfect for those of little history. Like 2008.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Not surprised she’s playing the game
In the days immediately following her election victory, she was interviewed on CNN where she was asked if she would support the democratic nominee in 2020, no matter who it might be, and she said, without a moment’s thought, “yes, without question.”
I knew right then what to expect from her.
She's a product of the system, groomed and
The real bottom line, like it was with Sanders for prez, is she's a DEMOCRATIC PARTY politician. The amount of attention being paid to a 28 year old who doesn't know shit and is clearly a centrist lefty is pretty amazing but people keep falling for it so why not.
I pretty much agree with everything you wrote,
The system is the problem, even if a candidate starts out with good intentions. Once within the system, they are given the "talk" and are expected to toe the line within very narrow parameters. The only place anyone is allowed to deviate from the corporate line is when it costs the oligarchs nothing. That means the difference is extremely narrow and limited mostly to identity issues.
I have posted here and at the other place on numerous occasions that real change does not come from the politicians. They are guardians of the status quo and of the oligarchy.

"she's malleable"
...as you say.
This world would have been a better place if McCain had stayed in Vietnam. He was a seriously crazy person, multiple personalities. Volitile. But he returned.
"I know what! Let's send him to Washington."
"Perfect. Get him the hell out of Arizona."
AOC may not be the best judge of character, but she is probably a lot less brain damaged, so there is that. And, she is doing the hard work of normalizing Socialism, just as Albert Einstein did when he realized that democracy was hopeless in America. That's worth something.
After her free junket to Israel and her first blush of lobbyist money, she'll probably turn. They all do.
Pin-up girl, your headline, damn brother

McCain picking Sarah as his VP is one reason why

I can't disagree with that, but I still think that if Obama had tried doing the job people elected him to do then Hillary probably would have won.

That just doesn't happen unless the fix is in.
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

"Pin-up girl" . . . . Really?
Dude (I assume you are a dude) . . . I was sad to see that term in your title . . . especially in the ranks of all of your excellent essays.
There are candidates here in Texas that I will vote for, whom I consider to be pretty good on most progressive issues. However, I don't know if any of them are where I want them to be on everything. None of them are anti-war enough for my taste.
But what are we supposed to do? Contrast any of them with the Texas republican party platform posted on the republican website and all the dem candidates look like Jesus (the nice jesus, not the republican asshole jesus).
In Texas we cannot afford to stay away from the voting booth. The state legislature has screwed us sooooo badly the past ten years.

So Alexandria . . . not expecting her to save us. Glad she has gotten this far however. Good for her.

Pin Up Girl
might be seen as sexist by some and maybe it is, but to me it fits perfectly. The fact that she is all over the MSM tells me all I think I need to know - just one more incrementalist whose feet we'll need to hold to the fire to get anything real done. But somehow that damned fire never gets anywhere near their feet, does it? Certainly not close enough for them to feel any real heat from it and certainly not enough to feel any real threat. And so it goes.

Don't know if it fits or not
I don't know that I would call "Pin-up Girl" sexist, but it is a term that discredits her intellectually.

comment though.

No sexiest offense intended
"Poster girl" dials it back a bit . . .
GulfGal's suggestion.
And I am not reading or watching any sources that are treating her like Kim Kardashian. That might offend me too.
I just really hope she turns out to be good. Got a whole bunch of similar candidates running in Texas and I hope hope hope hope they win and turn out to be good. The Beto people are working really hard here, so there's a chance. None of them are completely up to my standards, however.
