Don't be afraid to be confused. Try to remain permanently confused. Anything is possible. Stay open, forever, so open it hurts, and then open up some more, until the day you die, world without end, amen.
- George Saunders, The Braindead Megaphone -

Welcome to the extraordinarily open thread.

I don't have much to funkin' say, because I have been unplugged for over a week and put this together ~two weeks ago. I hope that I have not received any pieces of paper from the man. He will have to catch me, first.

I hope everyone is doing well, while I placate my wanderlust.

I will try to check in, during the evening.

That's funkin' it. Have a great weekend! The thread is OPEN.

Wishing you all a happy Autumn! Today on the East Coast, the autumnal equinox is at 4:02 pm EDT. In Central Time it is 3:02 PM, in Mountain Time it is 2:02 PM and Pacific Time it is 1:02 PM. The word “autumn” comes from the ancient Romans and may mean “drying-up season.” “Equinox” means “equal night” in Latin. Today the sun's rays shine directly on the equator, and then begin descending below the equator causing our days (in the N. hemisphere) to become shorter and shorter until the solstice in December. I hope those of you in the northern half of the world have a great fall and those in the South have a great spring!

All is well here on Lookout Mt. Last year we had fires like the west is having this year. It has been as mild a summer as I can remember (the hi/lo thermometer reports 94 the high for this summer at my location). So odd after last years hot drought. I guess we better be prepared for wild swings. Have a great day whatever your weather!

@Lookout
the equinox. But, days won't keep getting shorter because the world ends tomorrow. Did you forget that? I plan on slippin' right by it.

The leaf change is now apparent here. And I am not ready. That is usual. In another state at another time, we were still raking leaves at Thanksgiving, with frost.

I left a car door open overnight. It is still open, but my red door exit is locked. Fog again this AM. Yesterday it did not clear until after noon. But once it does, my lost summer returns and heats up over the next few days.

I am still waiting for my driveway work. The Bobcat just sits there. Unattended.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Happy Equinox brothers and sisters, may the balance be with you. Great tunes.

I don't know but I hope this headline is not on purpose, maybe they'll fix it: Autumn brings Vaux’s swifts back to back to Sonoma County

Autumn’s arrival has brought the return of migrating Vaux’s swifts to Rio Lindo Adventist Academy in Healdsburg, where the tiny birds have been roosting by the thousands each night over the past 5½ weeks, putting on evening shows for those lucky enough to bear witness.

The birds have sought refuge at the Fitch Mountain campus each fall since 1989, funneling at dusk into a huge brick chimney where they pack themselves tightly to stay warm as the nights grow chilly.

An estimated 21,000 were counted one night last week at the private high school. Their evening ritual typically starts with a feeding frenzy that fills the sky before the birds form a whirling mass and head into the chimney.

@enhydra lutris so they must shovel the fertilizer out that way? Out through the in door. Imagine their garden! Oh boy the Cannabis AVA could be called "Swift Buzz Sativa" or some such. "Shit Faced Indica" lol c'mon everyone join in, high times await. Brand it before it moves again. Pew pew pew!

“Most small growers grow for quality, not quantity. We have an incredible climate and terroir to grow things in Sonoma County, and I think that people who have really thought about this, understand that there’s a possibility in the right places to create super high-quality cannabis.
...
“With good food, good wine, good water, and even a little good cannabis, life can be good. and you can continue to be healthy. We have been given this gift and we want to share it,” he says.

Only $420 per ounce! * One eighth quantities ONLY, $15 plastic container included. No Deposit/No Return. Recycle, whaaaat? But healthy!

Gatorade pays California $300,000, settles anti-water complaint

Gatorade indicated in its own statement it has nothing against water.

"The mobile game, Bolt!, was designed to highlight the unique role and benefits of sports drinks in supporting athletic performance," company spokeswoman Katie Vidaillet said in an email. "We recognize the role water plays in overall health and wellness, and offer our consumers great options."

As part of the settlement, Gatorade agreed not to make other games that give the impression water will hinder athletic performance or that athletes only consume Gatorade and not water.

@eyo @eyo Swift event every year:

Chapman Elementary

Everybody sets up picnic blankets and beach chairs to watch. We took our daughter several years. Sometimes a Falcon will be in the midst of the melee and try to catch one. The crowd draws in a breath that can be heard, while the drama unfolds.

Looks like reverse smoke. Other homes in the area which have chimneys, have them screened to keep the birds out or they may light a fire at the wrong time.
With crowd reaction:
