05/11 Open Thread - World Ego Awareness Day
We really need not go there except perhaps to apologize to the civilized world. It should be noted, however, that the mythical Narcissus was good looking. There are also no allegations that he was otherwise particularly stupid, illogical, irrational or outright batshit crazy.
If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now.
Douglas Adams
On this day in 1880, seven people were killed in a gunfight near Mussel Slough, in California's central valley. This originated in a land dispute between some settlers and the Southern Pacific Railroad. The shoot out occurred about 6 miles from the current location of Hanford, which is about 20 miles West of Visalia, aka East Nowhere, and 10 miles East of the Leemore Naval Air Station**..Of course, Hanford wasn't incorporated until 11 years after the shoot out, and Leemore NAS was built in 1961 or so. So why should anybody care about this gunfight at the nowhere corral? It was the inspiration for Frank Norris' novel, The Octopus: A Story of California, a couple of other novels and a lot of muckracking journalism
** The Navy likes to now and then dump these Naval Air Bases inland, well away from any navigable bodies of water. If anybody wants a giggle, they can fire up their favorite search engine and look for the China Lake Naval Air Station. Hah!

Hey wow
.
The Disney Dali Destino ditty fermented my ripe mind.
Some wild images in there. Gonna be a fun day if that
is any indicator. Chased down with Burdon spilt wine. Yeah!
Thanks for the reality check on trumpets egoistic state.
He may get a serious bruise if the meet with Xi goes down.
The art of the steal won't work with his betters. Totally out of
his league in global geopolitics. The restaurant at the end of
universe will feature consequences beyond his ken.
Zionism is a social disease
Good morning Cap'n Q, thanks for that wonderful clip.
When one sees what Disney produces today, the Dali collaboration seems borderline unimginable, but there it is. Glad you liked it.

Good morning...
Ego is our stock and trade of late. Difficult not to be aware...
It a gold leaf covered bronze statue. But hey, we got no ego problem.
Thanks for the OT and music!

Good morning Lookout. Excessively tacky artwork there.
They should erect a statue of Ronald McDonald opposite to it, but who am I to say. And why isn't it surrounded with piles of corpses?

It looks like the Sinophobes are trying to throw a monkey
wrench into the Xi Trump meeting.
Last week Bessent sanctioned some teapot refineries and now we get this.
Well of course we applied illegal sanctions to those companies
the only question is whether or not we actually had any evidence as to what was done and by whom on the Chinese side China and russia should "sanction" the US satellite companies for providing aid and info to ukiestan, but, whatever.

A reasonable view of the situation.
The rest of the tweet:
Good afternoon, humphry, thanks for the information &
X post. The sad truth is that he is right, Trump is capable of anything at any time.

Only one anecdote cuts the other way
I have been shocked at how much mayhem the brass hats have stirred up at this idiot's whim. But one story did circulate about Trump asking for the "nuclear codes." I have no way of knowing whether this was a fairy tale, but the account said the multi-star general told him no.
That may not have happened, but I like that somebody in the power structure thought this was a good story to put out.
Otherwise, this hulking moron has lost what little sense he had and there is nothing out of the realm of possibility. Let's hope they really do keep him off the button.
I cried when I wrote this song. Sue me if I play too long.
Good afternoon, el!
I'm late to the party due to focusing on how impressive and great at all things I am.
Great tunes, btw, friend!
