Yet Another Employment Specialist Bites the Dust

This is specialist number...6? 7? In the last 6 fucking years? You gotta love Flawer'Duh's Voc Rehab vendors. They want people with disabilities to get degrees and certifications, and yet when it comes time to place said clients...well, they don't have a fucking clue as to how, or where, to do it.

Hiring Managers and Head Hunters Can Kiss My Ass.

There are people out there who say that the job of the hiring manager is to get the most qualified person for the job. But anyone who has tried to get a job in a skilled field knows that's bullshit.

In fact, I've had a guy tell me point blank that one of the reasons his firm never hired black folks was because they didn't read the Wall Street Journal where the want ads for said firm were posted. And this was decades ago.

Positive Thinking. Grin and Bear It. Fake it 'Til You Make It. Fuck That Noise.

Some of the therapists I've seen over the years since my diagnosis have used shit like this to describe ways of coping or dealing with certain situations. Unlike many neurotypicals, I don't have a 'switch' to 'turn it off'. You see, I'm not just dealing with Asperger's, I'm dealing with life-long depression as a result of not working with it early in life and I'm dealing with the neurological and physical aspects of hemiplegia.

Losing Yet Another Employment Specialist

I'm getting real sick of this shit. I get that the guy had to quit for medical reason so I'm not pissed at him. It's the system that pisses me off.

Between the lies of supported employment, SNAP benefits being held hostage unless you put in hundreds of applications a year unless Voc Rehab intervenes, the impossibility of navigating Social Security and of course, the 15 years I've spent working with Voc Rehab itself, I'm fuckin' over it.

Striking Out On One's Own

I'd been considering making all the stuff I do with photos and vhs tapes and such a home business for a while. I guess given I live in an area that's almost nothing but seniors and elderly there's a pretty good market for it.

So I decided to have some business cards printed and I'll be handing them out to anyone interested in the service. Heck, I even got a local golf cart place to take a few and the lady I was talking to there may have some work for me.

That Was Fast

So this morning I put in a job application. Not even 5 minutes after submitting the application, I got a rejection email:

After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that you have not been selected for this position. Please note that if you have applied to more than one position, your application for those positions may still be under review and this message is in reference to the position of IT Professional I - Database Administrator-AS0001OM only.

Disability Caucus 6/25/17: Help (Not) Wanted

A couple of weeks ago I went to a 'DiverseAbility' job fair hosted by Voc Rehab and other county employment services. Of course the whole thing was a waste of time because they only had a few employers and the rest were just plugging services I already use. Services Flori-Duh's government seems all to happy to slash every fuckin' year.

I've Been Vindicated

Those of you who follow my mostly depressing blog know how I feel about the job market. Well, my mother-in-law finally understands my perspective. Her partner has been looking for a job that's more in line with her experience and is still currently working. Problem is, most postings are asking for qualifications that far outweigh the job itself.
