For all practical purposes the office of the American President has become one of an uncrowned king.
There are many, many steps that led us to this point, but the parallels are blatant and numerous. Our uncrowned king has the power of life and death over his citizens, the authority to impose laws via fiat, and no accountability to any save the nobles which are the only check on his power.
In France watching charges of nepotism, fake jobs for the family of prominent politicians, police truncheon rape and the probability of a fascist once again getting into the second round of the presidential election. So I went to a local PS meeting, a meeting so boringly dour and joyless that I left early even more depressed with the left than before.
A friend of mine back in MN shared this article on Facebook this morning:
In my life I've been very, very fortunate. I've gotten to points at which I thought I would NEVER make it past without severe damage to my mind and body.
These points may seem trivial to some, but they're an examination of how hard you have to fight at least on a personal level, to make it past those events that you have considered nightmare scenarios. There will be a point afterwords, I promise.

Jobs? What jobs? Infrastructure? What infrastructure? Economy? What economy?
This might be a little rough because this perturbs me pisses me off.
What the hell do Trump and his team "think" they're doing?

I caught onto Donald Trump's game early on in the presidential campaign. I'm not bragging, many others did as well, I'm just saying that to set up the next part.
I like watching people squirm.
Not really, not in a bad way.
You don't lie about Nazis, they're awful enough as it is.

So Obama gives his farewell speech and goes out with a tear in his eye. Then he gives Biden a stupid medal, because it is stupid now that Biden has it, and they both have tears in their eyes.
