It's a New Year! Ohh Boy!!
I have to admit, I'm not that excited about a new year, at least, not yet. Maybe the excitement will ramp up after the smell of gunpowder from the fireworks goes away .
But, Spring will soon be on the way and that's exciting to me, things are growing even now. We've had one of the least rainy seasons here in the PacNW since records started. Despite what some people (Hi, Mom!) are saying, it really is not as rainy as normal here. Maybe that means I'll have to mow the fields earlier :). Or that could change, we've got most of the winter to get through still. It's muddy and wet out there now, for sure.

The holidays here have been very low key, in fact, they haven't really happened in a traditional celebration, party, gifts and food, sense. Hubby and I have had good food, he made homemade pizzas for New Year's Eve, for example, but that's it. Family stuff is also very depressing at times as my parents go into their final years. My uncle died 2 days before Christmas, following his wife, my Dad's sister, who passed away in August. So, it's been low key and kinda sad here. Still... everything moves along, happiness still happens, and it's time to plan for that!
Since it's the New Year, I've made a list of things to get done in 2025. The list includes repairs on the house and farm (especially the greenhouse and hoop house), growing stuff (of course), having a couple of very short vacations, lots of cleaning up and sorting through things so we don't end up with a house full of 'stuff' that's 30 years old but 'maybe we'll use it someday'. Heh. So what's on your list of things to get done in 2025?
And just because, here's a song that's been stuck in my head for a few days. It's the Mighty, Mighty Boss Tones and the song is 'All Things Considered'. I agree with what the song says, no matter what stories the old guy (Vietnam vet, etc) is saying, it's ok. 'All things considered, what he's telling us, isn't hurting anyone.' It reminds me of a gentleman I've come to know at my Dad's dementia home. Yes, the man has dementia as well, but at first he could talk. And he'd tell me such stories. The nurses would always ask if I was bothered by his stories, but I am not. Turns out, most of the stories were true, I researched them on the 'net.
I've been listening to and enjoying the music that's been posted here in the last couple of weeks a lot! Thank you all for sharing and helping me learn some new things!
Thanks for reading and Happy New Year! Here's the open thread - remember, everything is interesting if you dive deep enough, so tell us about where you're diving!

Happy 2nd day of 2025!
We are about to get back to 'normal' after the holidays, aren't we? Time for crap-loads of pruning, here on the farm. What's up with you? What are you New Year's resolutions, or your list of things to get done in 2025?

maybe is too early to figure out 2025
having a bit of difficulty roughing-in the outline
maybe something good in the pipeline? Hope to cope.
Enjoy your pruning and good luck with the old folks.
Thanks for the OT. It may be interesting today.

I can't think of a better pick as a pilot . Hope there is something good in the pipeline for 2025 for all of us. I've got my list of things to do, so there will be some satisfaction, maybe it'll feel good, getting some of that list done. Not gonna hold my breath though...
Thanks for stopping by!

Good morning and happy new year...
There's always things to do around the homestead. Yesterday we set up a new firepit at the camphouse and enjoyed hanging around the fire. We ate our usual NY meal, black eyed peas, greens, pork, and sweet potato...it was particularly good this year. Today is window washing day. It gets cold next week and it is nice to have a clear look out while hanging inside the house. This week has been 50F during the day and 30F at night. Next week is 40 and 20, with the following week maybe even colder. Well it is winter. We still have broccoli, cabbage, collards, kale and so on growing so the covers go on today.
We have a possibility of snow, but we'll see what happens. Let's enjoy the winter until the coming of spring. Thanks for the OT!
I love this one by Robert Burns, and have not seen it posted this year.
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Happy New Year!
Sounds like you still have a lot growing in your garden. We've got garlic, celery and various herbs overwintering outside and will soon have many things growing in the greenhouse. We used to cover the crops as well, and I still don't mind doing it, but we started to chop and freeze veggies in the late fall for over winter and we've sort of stuck to that. Snow? None here, yet. I hope it doesn't snow too much, if at all, at yours. We've had a pretty warm winter so far, and not as much rain as usual. Only a couple nights we have had frosts, most of the time we are above 32 at night, and often above 40! It's weird. But then, isn't everything.
Loved that rendition of Auld Lang Syne. Thanks for sharing it!

Good morning Sima et. al. Thanks for the OT, Sima
Pruning! Indeed, time for that, damn, slipped my mind, competes with need to weed garlic again, also need to replace defective olla in garlic bed. Still haven't taken down outdoor lights and put them away. Really supposed to get master schedule done today so I have an alert system of some sort. It's, no doubt, time to get started on some of that shit, despite the cold (California cold).
Planning on ignoring a lot of the news, decreases my screen time and aggravation levels. The good news is that I'm making carbonara tonight, a feast we haven't indulged in for several months now, definitely overdue.
be well and have a good one

Carbonara!
I bet that rocked! We had homemade burgers and fries. Hubby loves making them. We do the fries in the oven, so they are not as greasy, and therefore, I love them .
Our garlic is coming up, some are about 4 inches tall, most about 1 or 2 inches tall. It needs weeding! Too bad Nikko and I can't come help with your garlic weeding after we do ours.
I've started to ignore a lot of the news too. It's too much right now, and so damned obvious how it's manipulated.
Your list sounds good! It's something to do, isn't it? Have a great weekend!

Not sure but are the armed forces breeding terrorists???
What are the odds that they trained
some of the terrorists that we use for cannon fodder?
It’s kinda hard to square us being told that terrorists are out to get us and they are our enemy when our government is currently working with the worst terrorist in Syria.
There’s gotta be a word for this.
Yes, the armed forces breed terrorists...
After all, isn't that what the civilians on the 'other side' experience when we are making war on their country? And vice versa, probably. It's really surprising, and perhaps humbling, that not very many ex-soldiers turn their knowledge and skills on the people around them.

You know you’re getting old when….
.
Wayne Osmond dies at 73. I remember him and his brothers breaking millions of hearts.
I had a crush on Donny of course.

Crush on Donny...
Me too. Although I gotta admit, Alan was the one I liked. No idea why, now, really . I'm sorry that Wayne died. Boy, are we getting old or what?

Are Russia's gloves finally coming off?
Might be because Ukraine bombed
the area where the Oreshnik was launched from. I don’t think Russia would take that lightly especially because it has America’s hands all over it.
America does bad, but Ukraine gets punished. Hmmm….
Good afternoon, sima!
We had a low key holiday as well. The final day of my vacation is tomorrow. I will attend a wake. One of my parents' closest friends passed away. The oldsters are dying off, and some go out slowly.
The grass is still green and growing here, but the hard freeze and possible snow coming next week will change things until spring.
The spectacular acts of violence on Jan. 1 was not a good kick off. What I am concerned about now is the hysteria around the terrorism might make it easier to for the 3 letter agencies to control us with even more surveillance. You'd think their current level would be sufficient.
As for the war stories: It does the veterans much good to tell them. They benefit. We should listen, as that is about all we can do for them.
Thanks for the OT, chica! Nikko will grow up this year!!!

Good evening!
Low Key holidays are good, I think, at least once in a while. I'm sorry that one of your parents' friends passed, it's very hard to deal with at times, isn't it?
The violence on the 1st really hit hard. I'm tired of it, I have to admit. Here, Europe, everywhere... Bleh. I definitely think it's gonna make it easier for surveillance and more. Ain't it funny how the headlines went from 'the New Orleans attacker was probably part of a group sez the FBI', to 'the guy acted alone sez the FBI'.
Have a good weekend, and I hope the wake is fun and lively in honor of those who have passed.

Heh, yea...
'Explicit content' Parental Advisory. Sheez. Maybe that actually ups the rating of the album? Haha.
