Peru's political establishment was shocked when Pedro Castillo won the presidential election. So when Castillo made a clumsy power-grab late last year, Peru's elite made their own power-grab by not only impeaching him but also imprisoned him without charges, a far more excessively harsh treatment than any previous, elite-friendly right-wing president.

I keep waiting for typical San Diego weather to arrive, but so far it's been a no show. All spring temps have been a good 10° below normal with mostly overcast skies, and very little sun. This week we only got a few hours of sun and had two nights with heavy drizzle. The forecast for next week isn't looking any better. Normally it's sunny and 80 by this time of year. On the plus side I'm still upright and breathing which beats the alternative so I'll live with a little crappy weather.

Ask almost anyone, and they will tell you that people in the past lived lives of brutality, poverty, and short. It's only with capitalism that people's lives began improving. Right?
Well, actually no. Not even close.
Ukraine - Didn't anyone at the Pentagon think it was funny when the Ukrainians asked for targeting coordinates for the Kremlin? Or how they are always saying they don't have enough ammunition, but they always have enough to lob something at a hospital or a market or a school?

I believe Memorial Day is a good thing, honoring those who have fallen in our endless and often stupid wars. It's not their fault they fought, they died and they should be honored for doing so. Of course, there should be a day for honoring protesters too, those who fought, got hurt, died. Heh, I'm dreaming.
A few weeks ago, I was listening to some songs off old cds and vinyl I'd moved to my computer. I came across Steve Earle and the Pogues singing 'Johnny Come Lately' back in the late 80's.
