Ms. Successful was active in the drag and pageant communities in Haines City, FL and had represented her native country of Jamaica in the 2014 Gay Carribbean USA pageant.

Of course local media deadnamed and misgendered Ms. Successful, who had begun transition 6 weeks before being murdered.

From the The Wichita Beacon of May 18, 1916:

The Countess Markievicz, Joan of Arc of the Irish revolution, who kissed the revolver with which she killed a redcoat, and who [having escaped a death sentence] is now a life prisoner in Mountjoy, has indicated a desire to be baptized into the Catholic Church. The archbishop of her own church, the English establishment, offended her by appealing to the government for greater severity towards the rebels.

I'm Not Afraid Anymore.

If this entire primary has shown me one thing, it's that those who hold the levers of power want us to be afraid. Very afraid. I saw this in 2004, 2008 and in 2012 as well, but back in those days it wasn't so blatant as it is today. In 2008 I voted for Ralph Nader. And I'd do it again because the moment Obama won the primary that year he ran hard to the right from everything he claimed to support from Single Payer to same-sex marriage.
