Once upon a time we had Jesse Jackson running for President with the slogan "Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive!"
Raul Ilargi Meijer (a/k/a Ilargi) and Marshall Auerback have published two, truly outstanding essays over at The Automatic Earth and Counterpunch/Naked Capitalism, respectively, over the past 48 hours. They're both exceptionally noteworthy--and they both focus upon "flyover country"--so I'm going to provide a few excerpts and strongly encourage all reading this to DEFINITELY click upon the links and savor both of these salient posts in their entirety.
We're re-claiming the party!
From The Hill:
Seventeen demonstrators were arrested on Monday while staging a sit-in against Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) at the incoming Senate minority leader’s office in Washington, D.C., according to a new report.
The stock market absolutely loves the idea of a Trump presidency.
The election distraction lingers on. Meanwhile everyone is gearing up to spend like crazy for the "holidays". The only real way to try to stop the onslaught we are making on the climate is to change our habits in a big way. What better way to start than by not spending except for what we really need to live?

In a May email released by DC Leaks, Marlon Marshall, the director of states and political engagement for the Hillary Clinton campaign, forwarded two documents to several top Clinton staffers. One of these was a spreadsheet of detailed information about several Bernie Sanders supporters and Sanders delegates. This was described as part of a “Unity Check” for the Democratic Party.
Just a quick drive-by blog to remind everyone that the water protectors are calling for a nationwide day of action tomorrow, Tuesday November 15. You can find an event in your area by going to this link https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/nov-15-nodapl-day-of-action-at...
After reading BigAl's healthcare related essay yesterday did a little digging as this is a big issue for me. We have had to pay out around $15,000-20,000 out of savings in the last 5 years as opposed to over $120,000 had we had no coverage. Jakkalbessie and I both had big hospital events and extended treatment since we retired 12 years ago, and would have been bankrupt by now without our shitty teacher retirement healthcare that now has it's funding in question at the state level.
