Carl: Hi Mary, Great to see you! How are you Doing today!
Mary: Actually Carl, I've decided that I'm not going to be talking to you for a while.
Carl: Ok, I don't think it's a good idea for you to quit therapy at this time, but would you mind explaining?
Mary: I don't see why I should listen to somebody who's been lying to me.
Carl: What do you mean?
Mary: Ah! See, I knew you were going to play those Therapists Tricks. You don't believe me when I tell you I caught you in a Lie.
Carl: Mary, have you been talking to Dean?
Mary: I don't have to answer that question.
Carl: I know he told you to say that. I think he probably also told you that everybody else around doesn't understand the situation.
Mary: Well you don't! You think it's just so easy to pick up and leave.
Carl: I never said it was easy. I said it was what you had to do.
Mary: Yeah, that's what all the trendy Feminists say! If I do that, I'm just abandoning somebody when he REALLY needs me. Once he's better, Dean promises to go to therapy, and he promises that things will be better. He's promised that the kids will get health care, he'll stop beating the little one, and he'll stop getting high on power and running off to beat up people across town. He PROMISES. And I believe him.
Carl: How many times has he promised this, Mary?
Mary: This time it's Different.
Carl: I want you to listen to everything you're saying. I want you to really think about it.
Mary: I can't leave him now! He has so many people who are out to get him. If I don't give my all to him, the jerk next door is going to break into our house and rape me.
Carl: ...
Mary: See, NOW you're just trying to twist my words against me! I didn't say anything of the kind!
Carl: You have to get out of the relationship, Mary. If not for you, for your kids. Do you want them to go through this?
Mary: You just don't get it. (Mary Turns. On the inside of her arm we see a large bruise.)
