Vaccine for madness?

open thread_143.jpg
Well, tomorrow brings another birthday. My 76th go around the big orb that makes everything grow, and then go away.
I've watched a lot of happenings in those long years. Some good, some bad. Much change.
Some of the changes I experienced directly but didn't know it happened. Like polio. I never suffered it but remember getting the shot. But that was a big change worldwide. Now it appears to be making a comeback.
I had measles very young but survived just fine, as itchy as it was. But never got a vaccine shot for it when it came time to enroll in school. An ex-girlfriend was vaccinated preschool, but still got measles in her late 20s.
And now measles is making a comeback too.
It was then I started to question the effectiveness of some vaccines.
I've had my share of tetanus shots and have never had "lockjaw", or any other malady associated with tetanus. But was that because of the vaccine, or a hardy immune system? Lord knows I've had countless pokes, punctures, and slices in my construction career.
I've not had Rubella or Scarlet fever either, probably because of the early vaccine, but don't know for sure.
So when it came time to get the Covid jab, my mind went back to the Thalidomide scandal of the late 50s that reminded me of the hazards of Big Pharma and their magic elixirs'.
I fell for the fearmongering and got the first two shots, but nixed the boosters because of the ensuing fearmongering of its hazards.
Yes, I'm as much as creature of fear as anyone. It's hard to fight it when its been perfected as a useful trigger.
Anyway, thread is open. What's going on with y'all?

Hope you have something fun planned.
It is quite amazing you have been riding
this spaceship for so long without falling off.
Must be gravity or your magnetic loafers?

Cheers!

Believe me, if I had a choice I'd leave. With my towel of course.
Kinda drizzly here right now, but mild temps. Too wet to plant anything. Maybe this weekend.
Thanks for stopping by, Capt.

should take a minute to go read today's xkcd. https://xkcd.com/. Beyond that, I got nuthin so far. Of course, as we all know, nuthin' is free, and also not subject to tax or tariffs, so that's a big plus.

Lots of grief with gadgets and devices today, and don't get me started on software, updates and upgrades.

Strange to say, there seems to be a major shortage of seafood restaurants in my part of the East Bay. There are a goodly number all named things like the crab pot, the happy crab, bag of crabs, etc. I' just know those are narrow storefront counter, in strip malls, not guaranteed bad, but not what I'm looking for. That means a trip to Berkeley, Oakland, or Emeryville. Just a minor cultural annoyance, but also an excuse to run out to Half Moon Bay or Pillar Point Harbor.

Ah well, time to get to today's agenda, if I can remember it.

be well and have a good one

Funny take on tariffs.
I've a workbench stacked with various sundry gadgets in need of repair or oiling. This would be a good day to git'er done.
We've a lot of sushi places around here and Portland, but not a lot of actual sea food restaurants. McGraths Fish House, a chain, comes to mind. Pretty good food.
But nothing compares to Half Moon Bay for seafood. We stop there every time we are near.
One of our bestest steak restaurants, world renowned Ringside had a kitchen fire a couple of days ago and is closed indefinitely. We be sad.
Power on with the chores!

I'm in meetings to try and plan strategy around today's increase of the China tariffs to 104%. I'm sure the same thing is happening at hundreds of other US companies, who are all trying to figure out if it makes any sense to even continue in business in the face of this horseshit.

I fully expect him to raise them to 1,000% (shoot, why stop there? Maybe eleventy-bajillion percent!) when china inevitably does *not* come crawling to him with their hat in their hand...

And there's this, for some pretty charts, and the usual useless comments.

This is going to necessitate a hard landing, since the legislature doesn't seem inclined to do much more than write strongly-worded letters, and gawk at the carnage.

I hope you have a very happy birthday tomorrow.
Measles, mumps, and 3 cases of flu not only didn't kill me, no hospitalization was needed.
I swallowed a sugar cube polio thingie. Tetanus shot seems better than lockjaw. I got a yellow fever vax to get into Kenya. The only flu shot I ever took resulted in flu case No. 2 a few days afterwards.
My 50ish yr old client is almost bed ridden by this, that, and the other. Everything wrong with her is a side effect from her Xanax. Her shrink says after taking it over 20 years, she can't stop, as that could kill her. Of course, if she continues, that shit will kill her.
Fauci is out on interviews saying a new virus, bad ass, likely high morbidity, is coming soon. Hoo, boy!
I read where fire retardants in baby pjs cause infertility. Infertility is a cheaper way to de-populate than bullets and gulags.
e1, you have lived through some periods of life that were good. You may have little to look forward to, but great things to look back upon, even though you didn't realize the goodness at the time.
Thanks for the ot, old man, extended to you by an old gal!

Witnessed a lot of good things, especially growing up in SoCal in the 50s-60s. Read a lot of sci-fi by the likes of Asimov, Norton, Heinlein, and Clark with inventions that have become reality. When Sputnik flew, I had no inkling we would have a man on the moon a decade later.
We don't do great things anymore.
Thanks for the good wishes.

They believe everything coming out of Ukraine. The funniest thing is that Russian economy is in the toilet and they are having to canibalise their equipment to make it work.

over at Simplicious showing a small mountain of drones brought down by Russian EW and stripped of parts useable in their own drones.
That must be what DK saw and don't have sense enough to know the difference.

Pretty impressive that Russia has found ways to neutralize lots of ‘game changing’ weapons from America.

DK gets its Ukraine news only from Ukraine sources and it’s why so many there are going to be surprised when Ukraine sues for peace.

One writer always starts off his diaries with the unprovoked and illegal actions by Russia. The Maiden coup, the Ukraine Nazis and Russia hasn’t lost a million troops are all Russian propaganda.
They still think that Trump is a Russian asset and that he’s trying to help Russia win. You should read it. Lots of dopey comments.

Despite my allergy to vaccines, I‘m not sure I would object to one for madness ; ) Ultimately though, I think we have to find our own personal remedy for the madness, and I don’t think a vaccine works for that. Personally, I think the cure requires a growing sense of responsibility to the whole, and an end to the deep divisiveness that exists. How about a peace vaccine that makes you immune to war?
