"War is Our Business, and Business is Good"

Lockheed-Martin CEO
Open Thread Image.jpg

We've been waiting for more war this week. Everyone seems to think it is coming in the near term. The ceasefire has been used by all sides to prepare for the next round of destruction in western Asia. What a foolish, destructive, unpopular, war of choice, but the Emperor is mad and the empire is destined to fall. Meanwhile the EU managed to finagle it's $90B "loan" (which doesn't have to be repaid) to Ukraine to keep that war going. The object of wars today is NOT to win, but just to keep the grift machine going on the spin cycle, and don't forget the 10% for the big guy. Lots of people in positions of power are making lots of money off our wars betting on the market and directly.

(49 min) Max Blumenthal suggests Zionism and the lobby are failing to sway the public especially in the under 50 crowd.

Jeff Sachs was on Tucker's show this week in a 2+ hour interview. Here's a summary...
From the 1953 Coup to Today: Jeffrey Sachs Explains America’s Endless War on Iran
Jeffrey Sachs doesn’t raise his voice — he doesn’t have to. In this wide‑ranging conversation with Tucker Carlson, Sachs lays out a devastating, historically grounded indictment of U.S. foreign policy, the manufactured “Iran threat,” and the decades‑long fusion of American empire with Israel’s regional ambitions. What emerges is not a hot take but a cold, clinical autopsy of a war machine that has slipped beyond democratic control.
From the 1953 coup to the present blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Sachs traces how Washington’s obsession with dominance — and Israel’s pursuit of permanent military supremacy — has pushed the world to the brink of a conflict that could collapse the global economy in weeks. He dismantles the nuclear‑weapons narrative, exposes the bipartisan addiction to sanctions and covert warfare, and warns that the U.S. is now trapped in a crisis of its own making.
This is one of Sachs’ clearest, most unflinching interviews to date — a map of how we got here, and a warning about what comes next if the “grown‑ups” don’t seize the wheel.

American “Micro-Militarism: Or How Defeat in the Iran War Will Accelerate American Global Decline

Screenshot 2026-04-26 at 05-55-53 American “Micro-Militarism Or How Defeat in the Iran War Will Accelerate American Global Decline.png

There is mounting historical evidence that America is indeed an empire in steep decline, while President Donald Trump’s war of choice against Iran is becoming the sort of micro-military disaster that helped destroy successive empires over the past 2,500 years — from ancient Athens to medieval Portugal to modern Spain, Great Britain, and now the United States. And at the core of every such ill-fated war-making decision lay a problematic leader, often born into wealth and prestige, whose personal inadequacies reflected and ramified the many irrationalities that make imperial decline such a painful process.
During that demoralizing downward spiral, imperial armies, so lethal in an empire’s ascent, can err by plunging their countries into draining, even disastrous “micro-military” misadventures — psychologically compensatory efforts to salve the loss of imperial power by trying to occupy new territories or display awe-inspiring military might. Although such micro-militarism often chose targets that proved strategically unsustainable, the psychological pressures upon declining empires are so strong that they all too often gamble their prestige on just such misadventures. Not only did such disasters add financial pressures to a fading empire’s many troubles, but in a humiliating fashion, they also invariably exposed its eroding power while exacerbating the destabilizing impact of imperial decline in the capitals of empire (whether Athens, Lisbon, Madrid, London, or Washington, D.C.).
In our moment, when the bombs stop falling and the rubble is finally cleared from the streets of Tehran and Beirut, the impact on U.S. global power of such a de facto defeat will become all too clear — as alliances like NATO atrophy, American hegemony evaporates, legitimacy is lost, global disorder rises, and the world economy suffers.

I like the way Col. Wilkerson puts it,
"A dying elephant can tear up lots of grass in its final thrashing."

So here we are my friends. Waiting on more war which is sure to destroy the global economy and end the US empire. The mad emperor has no restraints and the sycophants he has gathered around him are merely agreeable pawns. Israel is likely to be destroyed in the process as well. You have to wonder why. Is it just because we are ruled by a mad man? Is it because Israel has purchased our congress critters? Is it simply pure greed and I'm making lots of money? Really doesn't matter why. What a fatal mess we've developed.

I hope your spring is unfolding and you are able to get out and enjoy the natural world, and escape the geopolitical turmoil. Perhaps now more than ever, we should treasure every day. I look forward to your thoughts, stories, and ideas in the comments below. The thread is open...

Someone inferred the shooting at the dinner last night looked staged. If it was, looks like excellent campaign strategy cooked up by Susie Wiles & co. In any event, it worked perfectly to prevent what would’ve been, especially if Trump had been absent, an evening of mockery and bad publicity for him.

paragraph pretty much encapsulates where we are. The concept of American democracy is shown to be a farce. Our government can be viewed as a boat. Elections, by us voting, decide who gets to sit where and who gets to steer. But that boat is not our boat. The boat is the status quo, and our government is your next to last paragraph, no matter who is steering.

Out of all the expenditures, so little benefits us, the not connected. When team blue gets back to power, I would be surprised to see much reform, it's just a bunch of hacks waiting their turn. I keep hoping that there will be some line that will be crossed to make us stand up, but it seems pretty bleak. The younger generation is so beat down, cynical and disillusioned. They watched their parents get cut off at the knees, played by the rules and get still get screwed over... they can't see a future with anything good in it.

Four hundred Hwasong-18 ICBMs launched. Three American carriers obliterated. Fifteen thousand sailors dead, wounded, or missing. The USS Gerald R. Gulf monarchies are suspending basing agreements. The global oil market is in freefall. Tonight's analysis goes inside the full operational architecture of Iran's Hwasong-18 strike, why American carrier defense doctrine failed completely, what Washington's panic reveals about forty-five years of strategic miscalculation, and what a world without American naval primacy at Hormuz actually looks like. @Lookout @Lookout

This would be equivalent roughly to the Chinese nuclear strategic ICBM force.

Who would use a strategic ranged weapon system designed to carry nuclear warhead(s) to strike targets at far closer ranges?

Let's say one did use short-medium-intermediate range weapons delivery systems. With a nuclear warhead it would only take six. two on each for assured destruction. Of course a more advanced state like Russia would have to provide the targeting info. The initial air burst destroys all radar tracking capability.

What analysis? It seems there simply was none in this AI production. Or is it just propaganda without any intelligence whatsoever?

The strike/engagement scenarios envisaged are absurd.

"a level of technical confusion..." Indeed.

The giftee has no meaningful obligation to repay and it is alternatively to be repaid by redirection of payment stream that almost certainly will never occur and hence won't be repaid. .... journalists, and retired spooks.

I particularly wanted to listen to Max Blumenthal's take on the Iran situation. He is very good at describing the different moving parts in conflicts. He also tends to weigh in on the risks involved, and the consequences of losing. There are certain outcomes that are inevitable in old, unresolved conflicts like that between Iran and the US. Because the core issue in the conflict is based on decades of irrational thinking and paranoid fantasies, there can be no resolutio on negotiation. The two sides can only fight to the death over Israel's paranoid fever dream. The US clearly has no business being in the Middle East at all. Win or lose, the dysfunctional US empire will return to the distant edges of the civilized world, and continue its endless deportations. It can hunker down in the Hand-Gun Nirvana that USians have created — where the US will always be Number One! In Mass Shootings, in Murder Suicides, and in Family Annihilations.

The US Military is stoked by their position of air superiority over Iran — no doubt imagining the Freedom and Liberty of blowing shit up, and destroying any civilian target that is still moving. Creating a military air force that thinks nothing of dropping a bomb on a girl's school below, is really not such a reach. Conversley, I noticed that Iran did not deploy their most advanced weapons in the early part of the conflict; did not display their strengths. Later on, however, military onlookers were stunned by Iran's uncanny marksmanship in their targeting. They launched precise and disabling missile strikes on a number of industrial targets in the UAE, and on every US military base across the region.

It was apparent, then, that Iran's military had made a full transition away from the old GPS positioning system made by the US — replacing it with China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) — a highly advanced global tracking and positioning technology. Plus, the BeiDou technology does so much more — particularly in a conflict situation. (See the short film, below.)

... Yugoslavia. At the time, it was the most 'foreign' place I'd ever been. The children called me "Amerikanski."

I added the information about the new BeiDou Navigation system in Iran because people here were seeking opinions on how the war was going to end, and how far it would escalate. Understanding the new weaponized GPS system that is blanketing not only Iran, but also the entire South China Sea, could be helpful in predicting the outcomes of this conflict.

I believe this is the first time BeiDou technology was used in combat by Iran. It allowed Iran to push back against everyone in the region with terrifying accuracy. The US knew immediately that Iran had suddenly acquired significant capabilities.

This is probably why the US decided to abandon all nine of their military bases in the region. For now, at least. On one of those US bases, it is rumored that US personnel were unprotected and unprepared for the attacks. a number were killed or seriously injured. This was hushed up in the US. I assume that's why Trump went bezerk on Easter with his shocking rant.

BeiDou navigation and communications system offers a military force an array of powerful tools and services. Iran was using BeiDou's advanced satellites to acquire very specific vulnerabilities on those US bases. Then BeiDou's low altitude guidance system was deployed to steer Iranian missiles to the exact target.

Essentially, Iran was giving the US military a sneak-peek of a formidable Chinese weapon; one that the US did not have. The US has made no significant technology improvements to their current GPS system. US ships and bases will be a bit more vulnerable in and around China. Was this a shock? No idea. The US did immediately revert to Thug and Pirate mode — at a distance — to reinforce their threats and bluster against Iran.

It doesn't mean that the war is over, of course. Delusions and denial die hard.
