05/26 - Friday OT, Y,all
Well, JtC and otc are out and about, leaving today's OT slot in need of an author, or, lacking that, me. Since I've never done a May 26 OT before, I fell back on my old gimmicks, seeking inspiration any old where in the knowledge base relating to this date.
26 is the only integer that is one more than a square (52 +1) and 1 less than a cube (33 -1), Meh. It is, however 2 x 13, so, Friday the 26th is arguably twice as scary as Friday th 13th. I can work with that
Hexgram 26 - Controlled Power - tells us that it is beneficial not to eat at home and to cross the great water. The food bit may relate to JtC and otc, whilst I, despite this holy writ, will not only eat at home, but I'm gonna cook dinner too. That's two
Da wiki tells me that 26 CE is one of but 3 years during which Jesus' alleged crucifixion might hav taken place. Given that the age of the earth is purportedly 4 billion 543 million years, the odds of any such crucifixion is ergo 3/4,543,000,000 or somewhere around 0.000000001, which is pretty damned small. This makes 3.
This is the last Friday in May, the year is damn near half over. Meh.
Other history:
In 1923 the first 24 Hours of Le Mans was held on this date and has since been run annually, but in June.
In 1927 the last Ford Model T rolled off the assembly line after a production run of 15,007,003 vehicles. It was going to be a loooong time and a ton of vehicles, however, before any fords wound up at Le Mans.
Martin Heidigger died on 5/26/1976. Certainly something to think about, but beyond the scope of this writing.
But lookie here, birthdays:
1883 – Mamie Smith, American singer, actress, dancer, and pianist
1920 – Peggy Lee, American singer-songwriter and actress
1926 – Miles Davis, American trumpet player, composer, and bandleader BINGO!
1962 – Bobcat Goldthwait, American actor, director, and screenwriter Heh - saw him early on, a wild man.
OK, so I hit a trifecta up there starting with Friday 13 or 26, Heh
And
Mamie Smith gave us a history making recording and was a seminal figure
Peggy Lee just because
And the birth of the Cool
So that's all I got, it's an open thread, so go for it.

Good morning
1926 is an interesting slice in time.
Ford Motor Company, led by Henry Ford, becomes one of the first companies to implement the 40-hour week for its factory workers.
Robert Goddard fires the first liquid fuel rocket.
U.S. marines are dispatched to Nicaragua during the revolt; they remain until 1933.
Chiang Kai-shek becomes leader of China's revolutionary party following the 1925 death of Sun Yat-sen.
" The night the inmates howled"
Thanks for the mash-up OT EL
Enjoy your funky Friday all!
question everything
Thanks, btw, on all that info on 1926, as well as
the Nicaragua thing. I tend to get lost in their history, they were also invaded by US citizen William Walker and his private army in 1856, and, we, of course, had no problem with that whatsoever and even recognized his government after he usurped power as the legitimate government of the country.

Must be that silly Monroe Doctrine thinking
big daddy US takes care of the western hemisphere
not necessarily to their benefit
coming home to bite Uncle Sam in the ass now
refugees swamping the borderlands
thanks again for filling in

My pleasure - I posted an earlier reply to your
first comment but didn't make it a reply, it is below this somewhere. Having a bit of internet grief.

Good morning QMS, thanks for reading. That was
actually a re-invasion and re-occupation by the marines. We sent the Navy down there in 1912 because Zelaya had executed about 500 revolutionaries, including a couple of US citizens. After Zelaya quit there was a rebellion against his successor who purportedly then asked the US to intervene and we sent in the Marines in 1912. Throughout this period there was a ton of talk about a canal through Nicaragua from the Atlantic to the Pacific. (There was already a ton of travel via the San Juan River and Lake Nicaragua with only a small land portion.) In 1925 Nicaragua agreed to let the US own and control any such canal, and the Marines left for a while, but there was a right wing coup which triggered a civil war and we sent them back down there in 1926 to make sure that our control of the future canal stood and they stayed until 1933. (27-33 was the Sandinho rebellion against Somoza)

I mentioned Bobcat Goldthwait up there. I saw him early
in his career at a comedy venue in San Francisco. This is sort of what he was like back then:

Open Question about “Zelenskyy”
To know how Zelensky's name is spelled correctly, is a trip into confusion. On his passport his name is spelled “Zelenskyy”. Anyway it's not important or my question.
Lately I ask myself if Zelenskyy knows where he will end up living and going. I think he ends up not finding a place. Could be totally off, but I think it will be hard for him to hide. But my guts tell me that is something he will need in the future.
What do you think?
PS. I always like your music selection, EL. Thanks for that.

'Elensky can always hide out in the US
There's an open door policy for failed tyrants, fugitive mass murderers, and the like.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Hiya, Maven. I keep waiting for some savvy enterpeneur to
to build a super high security gated community with a private beach for despots, tyrants and assassins only.
Thanks for reading

I ask myself for how long he will be welcome in the US
He is as responsible for WWIII as is Putin. If the US is welcoming Putin the same way as they welcome Zelenskyy, there might be a chance we can avoid WWIII, but it feels already as if we are in the
midst of WWIII supported and managed by the "world-wide right-wing Nazi United Corporatiosn and governments"
Hopefully I will die before that comes to my front yard.
Have all a wonderful Whit Monday.
