OT WE 26 AUG ~ street parade
Looking out my window, there what do I see? We live on a local road and in the mornings,
a parade of humanity saunters, jogs, hikes, run dogs and sometimes strolls past the portal
of my seat at the desk while creating the daily script of life.
You can almost set your watch by what I call the hikers, at 6:40 stride by heading south in synch, gabbing with purpose. The dog runner goes by somewhat earlier, with the doggie happy to lead the charge heading in the opposite direction. Rainy days seem not to interfere with their purpose.
Nor does the cold for that matter. The occasional stroller goes by with their head in a
hand-held device. I wonder how much of the surroundings they see?
I am presently computerless, lost all of my data and need to start all over again. At the local library to pen this scribe, so will not be normally available in the wake of this.

Matt Hoh makes the following observation on US military leadership: If you want to make it to flag rank, you don't want to be "the skunk at the picnic" when the boss says we're going to bomb or invade another country. In other words don't rain on the boss's parade! You won't get promoted. If that happens, you'll never get to work for one of the monopoly defense contractors and get the big payoff. So just tell everyone the war is goin great, victory is a done deal, the war will be over in two weeks, or "there's light at the end of the tunnel." Whatever he wants to hear.
Matt is really a brilliant analyst who "gets" the military. The only quibble I have with the video below is that the F-15 has quite a high op ready rate compared to the F-35, and imo is a much more capable and versatile aircraft, particularly in various attack missions. However, I'm not that confident about how survivable the USAF workhorse is in modern air defense environments. Likely it is forced to use stand off weapons to avoid the risk of shoot down and aircrew capture or loss.

I am no stranger to computer crashes. It sucks.
The walking path around the city takes the strollers pass my office.
In the past couple of years, the most likely client or witness to start a nasty argument with me has been elderly white women. The dog walkers have to be monitored carefully. I have had to go out and demand a woman stay off my office lawn and take her dog to shit elsewhere. She said I had no right to tell her to leave and to shut up. ??? I told her, "Let me call the Sheriff and see if he agrees, you bitch." None of the old lady dog walkers carry the gloves and disposal bags. Since word got out I would call the law, they moved across the street and let their dogs shit on Baptist Church property.
I bet they are Methodists.

Good morning...
Yesterday was tree cutting day. I had a big (4' diameter) tree fall across one of my main trails. I hired a crew I've used several times. They are great. They took care of it. Plus they trimmed back limbs requiring me to trick tractor drive. Finally, they took down a dying tree leaning over the camphouse. They have a reasonable daily fee, in fact the tricky tree over the camphouse alone would have cost me the same or more using most tree services.
Today I had to run my usual errands that I didn't do yesterday. So back home now for the rest of the day.
When I lost my computer a few years ago, I bought a refurbished one and started over. I do use a back up drive storage which made it easier. Of course you have to remember to load new pictures, documents and so on on occasion (say monthly).

to conjure up Season of the Witch, even though October is months away:
When I look out my window, while seated here, should the blinds be open, I see either the windows or the roof of the place across the court depending upon whethere or not I am slouched. Now and then I will also see a chestnut backed chickadee or bewick's wren atop the bottlebrush trimmed to level with the opening pecking away at the screen. By midday, however, the blinds are kept shut because the sun comes blaring in a) heating the room significantly regardless of the double paned windows and b) shining diretly into the left corner of my eye and causing screen glare on my monitor. So, so much for the theme for the day.
We have canned tomatoes, gifted tomatoes and eaten tons of tomatoes, it is getting old. I think I shall freeze some and throttle back the consumption, limiting it to a slice or two atop burgers for tonight. Been so busy with caprese, primaveers, pappardelle with tomatoes, garlic, and chard, etc. that I can't even recall what a burger tastes like.
Mystery hour -- fearing that the good Cap'n would not get anything posted, I knocked out and queued up an emergency replacement OT last night. It isn't up. Well and good, it would be redundant anyway, but I naturally wondered if I screwed up the process, so I peeked and poked around. It is in my drafts, waiting to be published, but with 3 likes. Perhaps it is the season of the witch already.
