Lavrov seems like an educated grown-up compared to our nincompoops---Blinken and Psaki, for example.

Yves also is worth reading. A few others as well.

South Korea is balking at the sanctions. We will see how that turns out. Clearly the effect of the sanctions will be other than what DC wants.

China and Russia have announced a new pipeline. Trucks crossing their shared border are less efficient. And, as noted earlier in the conflict, China will take all the oil it can get from Russia.

There is some conflicting info about Russia cutting off Ukrainian gas and Ukraine shutting it off to show solidarity. Ukraine is brave on March 2. I wonder what would have happened if this conflict began December 2.

Talks and delays will not stop the inevitable in this situation. NATO/USA are saying that they will not back down.

Putin is saying the same thing, and in Putin's case, I believe him.

NEW---Edited. The media is saying that there have been breakthroughs because now humanitarian corridors have been provided for civilians fleeing Kiev.

This is misleading because these corridors have been open and secured by Russia in Kiev all along.

Not to mention that civilians attempting to leave Donbas are on tape being slaughtered by Ukrainian mercenaries as they attempt to flee.

That's the mercenary Nazi crew we are paying just doing their usual violence.

I think the idea of the campaign on the entire southern edge of the Ukraine, from Russia to Odessa has been planned by Russia with the goal of encircling Donbas and cutting off the NATO/Nazi re-supply routes. This effort looks close to being completed.

whenever i see lavrov doing his diplomatic thing on video, he seems quite reasonable and competent. he addresses key issues and questions directly. this is not what i see from the spokesdroids on the u.s. side.

i also believe that putin/russia will not back down. they consider this an existential issue from which there is no backing away. both american diplomats and the u.s. media try desperately to avoid this and putin/russia's efforts to get the attention of the u.s./nato for many years, but there's an awful lot of evidence out there, so bluster and censorship is their only hope.

have a good evening!

Psaki then said this is an opportunity to 'reduce our reliance on oil,' suggesting that America can "do more to invest in clean energy, more to invest in other sources of energy, that's exactly what we can do to prevent this from happening in the future."

Sure Jan we can do that, but it ain’t gonna help us not paying out the nose for gas soon. I don’t remember if Utah ever had $4 gas before, but I’m definitely not happy paying that right gd now. Boy that is going to hurt a lot of people already living on the edge. And for the doofuses in the back opening the keystone pipeline isn’t going to do jack for oil prices because it’s all sold on the world market. Isn’t it just for tar sand anyway that comes from Canada to ports on the coast?

ICYMI here’s Kamala being brilliantly stupendous!

But wait there’s more..

Wow give that girl a prize.

https://www.reddit.com/r/WayOfTheBern/comments/t4yngo/are_russians_the_n...

Are Russians the new Jews in Germany's 1935-38 ?

May be what we are seeing all around us are Russians treated like the New Jews - the üntermenschen (sub-human underclass) who need to be booted out from civilized spaces, de-platformed, kicked out, bullied and possibly incarcerated? Kind of like the Japanese were after Pearl Harbor but with even more severe racist undertones? a little more persecution?

T listen to some Twitterati and on-line agitated souls, now wrapped in Ukrainian flags as if they were Prussian Iron crosses, some are practically advocating for a modern version of Kristallnacht, complete with Vodka bottles splashed against Russian skulls (or anyone figuratively deemed to advocate something "Russian"), may be literally do a little Pogrom against some hapless Russian looking shops or individuals who spoke a touch to earnestly?

You think I am exagerating? in the Czech Republic they announce 8+ years f prison sentence for DARING to speak of Russia non-negatively. A famous conductor was fired from his orchestra position in Italy for NOT denouncing Russia more strongly. Athletes are required t "bend the knee" and denounce Russia forcefully, or else. And that BTW is exactly how things went in those early days when the Social nationalists (that's what they called themselves) Germany (for those of you who don't know lots about that history). It all started with a few steps and then it escalated ever faster. Are we so sure it can't happen here and across the so-called civilized West?

Back in the day (that'd be 1935-1940) it was the Jews who were considered Evil because they were “different", "non western", "alien" and had nefarious plans to take over the world. It started slowly at first - fire them from work places, kick out the students from universities, de-platform the artists, boycott their stores and products, villify their culture/religion, and generally just show them your hate. Your contempt. Your outrage.

Sounds far fetched? based on the mass psychosis we are witnessing (turned on a dime from rage against the s-called "anti-vaxx") it kind of seems like the same playbook, but now it's Russians (otherwise known as "snow n....s" **)..

Back in these long gone days, Goebbels’s greatest propaganda achievement was to equate the "Jewish element" with the Bolshevik-Communist threat from the East. Back then they rounded up the Commies and their Jewish "sympathizers" first. It was gavel-to-gavel propaganda - then, like now. Russians = Commies. Putin = Devil. Just transpose a few things and bingo! next they'll all be rounded up and shipped off somewhere - isn't that what they are all baying for?

Even little Israel had serious hesitations about condemning Russia - why, it took days and days of elbow twisting to force them on the bandwagon, and even so they ain't joining in on no sanctions. Could it possibly be that it all seems a bit too close for comfort? perhaps some of them heard one thing too many about Babi Yar and the role of the Bandera thugs in that 20-30K "little" massacre?

Then again, after a brief interlude where - for the first time in human history - Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran, seemed to be somehow on the same side - well, Israel just had to, had to join in this condemnation exercise but not without reservations, and quite half-heartedly. After all, they do have 100's of 1000's who came from both Russia and Ukraine who ain't all on the same page. Here is a sample: https://www.jta.org/2022/02/25/global/in-israel-some-russian-speakers-su... .

do please note that for the last 8 years, the refugees and the civilian dead have mostly been ethnic russians living in the eastern regions of ukraine. for 8 long years nato-funded nazis have executed in the neighborhood of 10,000 ethnic russians in the eastern regions.

where was all the wailing and gnashing of teeth then?

where were all of the stalwarts of international rectitude at the un while nazis were slaughtering ethnic russian ukrainian civilians?

like you, i don't want war and i wish that putin had made other strategic choices, but you can't say that he failed to attempt to get the attention of the world and global institutions in the long run up to the current mess. the failure is not all his.

Neither Europe nor the United States, it seemed, would be intervening on behalf of Ukraine against Russia. Zelensky and Ukraine were on their own, their only choice for national relevance being to commit suicide on the international stage while the West, from the safety of their homes and offices, cheered them on like bloodthirsty Romans watching gladiators do battle in the Colosseum.

Wowzer that’s a home run! It does seem that lots of people here are cheering for the Ukrainians whilst hoping that they give Russia a bloody nose. But sadly they are very ignorant of what pushed Russia into action.

While Biden lionized Ukraine and its beleaguered president, he failed to explain to the American people why there was a war, beyond the sophomoric argument that “Putin did it.” No talk of America’s role in the Maidan back in 2014, no discussion of the role played by Ukrainian right-wing ultra-nationalists in oppressing the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine, no mention of the shelling of the breakaway Donbass region, no discussion of the role that NATO expansion played in creating an untenable security situation for the Russian state.

I’m sure that Biden will say that he feels our pain.

Russia has yet to respond to the US-led economic war being waged against it. When it does, rest assured that these sanctions Congress so enthusiastically applauded will prove to be a double-edged sword – one that will cut into a US economy still reeling from the consequences of the Covid pandemic. When that time comes, President Biden could find that many of those politicians who rose to their feet to cheer on the sacrifice of Ukraine will turn on him.

War, it is said, is but an extension of politics by other means. Given the deep partisan political divide that exists in the US when it comes to the economy, it is clear neither Biden nor the American public is ready for what is about to happen when the consequences of their anti-Russian hysteria finally comes home to roost.

I don’t know much about what causes inflation, but I know that closing down the world had a huge effect on supplies that we still haven’t recovered from. Won’t higher energy prices and higher everything else make it worse? People are almost paying double for used cars. Lots of newer ones are sitting in lots because they don’t have chips for them. I forgot what neon makes, but Ukraine supplies about 90% for the world.

The supply chain broke because of mandates, demand which usually helps cause higher prices wasn't a factor at all. It was monopolized corporations raising prices because they had no competition. Think insulin, epi-pen etc.etc.etc.

The price of oil is impacted now by hedge fund/WS banks buying oil just because, when in
reality their is no shortage or stoppage of oil

it seems that perhaps israel's actions are more reasonably explained as caused by a fear that russia will make them stop bombing syrians. if israel gets on russia's nerves, i would imagine that israeli planes will start dropping out of the sky over syria and syria's defense systems will likely improve dramatically.

from the saker ..

But here are the stone cold fact about the Ukie military:

Air Force: gone
Navy: gone
Long range, standoff capabilities: gone
Air defenses: gone
Regular ground forces: no less than 65% (some say up to 80%) of the Ukie military is surrounded and condemned
Assorted Nazi units: I don’t have the figures, but A LOT of them are now either in the Donbass cauldron or in Mariupol. They will mostly not be taken prisoner, except for the leaders who will be tried and sentenced for their innumerable crimes.

So, in terms of the Russian goals, here is how I would score this:

Ukrainian disarmament: mostly already done, the Ukraine has nothing to threaten Russia with
Ukrainian denazification: only at the early start, but conditions are excellent and I am confident that most of the hardcore Nazis will soon be dead.

But what’s next?

Russia will/has disarm(ed) and will soon denazify the Ukraine, that is a given.

But what after that? Please remember that this is NOT about the Ukraine, this is about the entire future security architecture of Europe.

I will just say this: while, no, Russia won’t invade the EU or even Poland, the Russian war to push back NATO has only begun, it will last MANY MONTHS so be prepared for this. MONTHS.

Please ready yourself for a long and difficult struggle.

simply leaving a full glass of bourbon and the bottle of vermouth right by the door to the deck, to save time when the balloon goes up. That way all I will have to do is put in a tiny splash of vermouth as I run out the door, and I'll have my Manhattan. I may not have time to both get into my tux, and also make the drink. Gotta plan ahead.

I'd make it ahead of time, but the drinking cat doesn't like vermouth. He does like a lick or two of bourbon from time to time, though, so peace reigns doing it this way. I don't want him pushing my glass off the counter. The other cat is a teetotaler, and I have no idea why. He's something of an ascetic, in many ways.

We used to have a llama that really liked Crown Royal, but never cared for good bourbon. And we had one that liked Chardonnay, but nothing red or distilled. And my wife's late horse really used to like a cold beer after a ride on a hot day, like most horses. Picky, picky... Oh, well, we try to take care of our critters as best we can.

I’d really hate to be China’s leadership right now. This is rock/hard place for them. If they don’t keep Russia alive they will have no ally when it’s their turn, but the US and Europe are likely to put a ton of pressure on them for sanctions & that will start the cold war (for them, it’s already on for Russia,) earlier than they wanted.

It’s not quite that simple for China. They have made lots of agreements with Russia just because they both knew that NATO was coming for them.

He ends with this:

Cold War 2.0 isn’t one in which the West are necessarily the favorites to win.

Gee it’s not like China makes many of the things that Americans need and want because our government’s masters told it to offshore jobs and close down factories here. We got a taste of this when the epidemic hit and we found out that our cupboards were bare for the things we needed. We import basic medical needs too and hey isn’t China holding a lot of our debt? I think China has a good hold on America’s gonads. And as we are aware Russia are now fast friends. Didn’t a few people warn against pushing them together?

Seems that the accusations of bio labs in and around Ukraine were real after all.

https://www.salon.com/2013/08/29/the_us_is_building_a_bioweapons_lab_in_...

Long Twitter thread on it and other stuff.

Hillary inked a deal with Russia for our uranium when she was Secretary of State and after it was done Russia donated millions to her foundation. They also paid Bill big bucks to give a speech to a Russian bank. Pay to play was a big money maker for the Clintons during her tenure which slipped under the radar for most people. Clinton Cash is a book about their actions. After she lost the easiest election in history to a game show host the money flowing into her foundation dried up. Weird huh? She wasn’t useful to the oligarchs after that. I’m pretty sure I wrote a few essays on that.

Recently people were talking about how Russia was bombing the bio labs in Ukraine. Looks like there was something to that.

Hey remember that attempted coup in Kazakhstan? Was Hunter Biden involved in any way?

2. The UK Department of Transport confirmed that Russian oil and gas can still arrive in the country despite sanctions barring Russian ships from entering their ports, as bans only apply to the vessels not the cargo itself.

OOPS! Did we go bananas again? How does oil and gas get there without the vessel? Let’s try and fix it.

OOPS! (This country is killing its own industry).
