What gets me is how so many of them see this election, as some sort of Game of Compromises,

between more of the same, and less of the Crazies.

Whereas, most progressives see this as serious Life and Death stuff,

where among other things,

literally the fate of the planet, hangs in the balance.

Our two camps aren't even in the same league, speaking of "games".

Your comment sums it up. Clinton supporters see this as a game between their team and the Republicans. They honestly cannot fathom that most Sanders supporters see this on a far higher level, as you say, one of life and death, literally. This is exactly why I do not see the millennials, in particular, automatically supporting Hillary if she gets the nomination. Actually, this leading edge baby boomer will not be supporting her either. I will be writing in Bernie if she is the nominee.

To Sanders, Politics is far more than a Game.
His lifetime of fighting for what's right shows that.

To the Clintons, Politics have often been a 'means to an end' ...

The shady stuff waiting to be disclosed about the Clinton Foundation is truly disturbing, (and frightening to Dem chances this fall in general).

Assuming Republican Oppo research groups are half as competent as they have been in previous years, which I expect they are.

HRC favorability are already underwater. When the CF quid-pro-quo, becomes common knowledge

I will be writing in Bernie if she is the nominee.

The Democratic party will never change until there is an electoral cost to its corruption and promotion of mass killing for fun and profit. Because of this, I will not vote for Clinton under any circumstances.

As always, they'll say it's going to be the end of the world. Long term, however, the end of the world is far more likely to come from letting the lesser evil keep ratcheting us down to more evil, and then normalizing that evil, naturalizing it.

There is a term for this process, a term for denying a party your vote when its values and practices deviate far from your own; that term is "politics", and it's time the left practiced it.

The right and "center" do it all the time. Let them scream, and when they're done, tell them to shut the fuck up and next time present a candidate who isn't a moral and political dung heap.

“If there is no justice for the people, may there be no peace for the government.”

I think it was huge electoral losses in the 1980s that originally pushed the Democrats to Bill Clinton and the center. It doesn't really seem like winning has any effect on making the Democrats change. Of course a GOP President terrible while a Green Party President would be great. I guess we just have to see where things are after the conventions.

Beware the bullshit factories.

ppnortney's picture

according to Thomas Frank, the change began between 1968 and 1972 when they rejected the New Deal Democratic promise - by '72, they had effectively kicked the unions out of their organization although they still wanted them to organize for them, raise money, deliver working people's votes.

This shift had an effect on Democratic policy solutions because of the naive (I'd call it Ivory Tower) view that everyone who gets a good education can rise to affluence. Even though not everyone can afford college, or even qualify for it if their early education has been substandard. Or that a degree from Small Town University doesn't have the same market value as one from the higher-cost, better connected Ivy League university. Or that people graduating with great grades and supposedly marketable skills still are unable to find decent paying jobs. And, of course, we used to have jobs that people without college degrees could make a good living at, raise a family on.

Bottom line is the upper 10% is now the Democratic Party's constituency, we're just the grunts they try to schmooze into voting for them.

One other great point he made is that, with an exception here and there, these "professionals" on whom they have hinged their hopes for a bright American future are NOT our best and brightest (i.e., the most creative and original) because they are "obedient thinkers" who embrace whatever the reigning doctrine is of their particular field.

hey if some get kicked out of dailykos, that is less severe than kicking unions out of the democratic party

I use the date of 1980 when democrats walked away from the issue of poverty

but this pushes the date back farther and farther

this campaign has been an ongoing exposure of the corruption of politics and the two factions

if there is any hope, it is the Bernie movement

So Clinton comes along and passes NAFTA, MFN for China-- both of which the Democrats stopped Bush from doing. The Democrats had become what was mocked in Bullworth, a movie that should be required viewing for this election. Clinton also passed Bush's education bill with no changes to it. It was a Wall St take-over like the party was a corporation. We all know it, it's just good to be able to say it freely here. Sorry to rant. I'm just glad this new space if available now.

Clinton's are so stuck in the past. She can only see what she did in 2008 - forgetting we KNOW she knew she was going to run for POTUS again, and she HAD to stay with the Democratic Party, DLC/Third Way to keep her own political viability.

We don't want ANYTHING from the DWS/DNC/DLC/Third Way if Bernie Sanders is not the nominee. Nada. Zilch. Nothing.
Happy as an Independent since the Clintons & the DLC/Third Way took over the Democratic Party. No interest in voting for someone just because he or she has a D in front of the name.

Before Gorbachev became premiere and allowed Glasnost and Perestroika, no one could talk about the problems in the USSR. Everyone saw the problems. They knew what the problems were. But no one talked about it because talking (at least publicly) about it would get them in trouble because everything was supposed to be hunky-dory.

The establishment is trying to muzzle us. However, while the elites are trying to shush things, the elites control isn't as absolute here as it was in the USSR before Gorbachev. We still have a voice, for now. And Bernie is the conduit for our voices at this time and we will do what we can to help him help us.

Dem Senators (Claire, et al) to tone it done, about Bernie.

As one national campaign reporter put it (on XM Radio)--the Dem Establishment wants him to stay in (at least) until the convention.

If he should drop out, FSC would become the sole Republican target--to some extent, he mitigates this by staying in the primary race.

But even more than that, if/when either of them become the presumptive Dem Party nominee (no competitor), especially, considering all the drama on the Repub side--the coverage for the Dem nominee would drop off preciptiously.

They (reporters) say that it's unlikely that any of the Dem Party Leadership would actually want that to happen for 2-3 months--meaning until the Repub convention.

What I believe they (Dem Elites) want, is for Bernie to continue to compete--but in a 'docile' manner. Which is ridiculous, and totally unfair.

And, thankfully, it doesn't look like he's going to comply.

Wow, Cenk is on fire ... for good reason. Do you think that Obama had any idea that he was cutting off Clinton at the knees by nominating Garland? The main argument that I get from Hillary supports is that I must vote for Hillary because "the Supreme Court". If Obama can nominate a conservative that doesn't believe in Habeas Corpus, and thinks that unlimited money in politics is just fine, then Hillary, who I believe is to the right of Obama, will nominate even worse candidates for the SC. She will nominate candidates that support the banksters, the MIC, extraordinary rendition, the rights of the Oligarchs, and loss of our access to government information, and the right of the President to summary executions and to wage endless, undeclared wars.

Cenk brought it up. = )

When it became clear that the Republicans were going to go all the way out to obstruct an Obama nomination for the Supreme Court, I signed all the petitions that came my way that required the Republicans to hold hearings and give an up-or-down vote.

No longer. With Obama's nomination of Merrick, I have quit signing any of those petitions. I would ask that others do the same. Would a Republican nominee be worse? Maybe, maybe not. What I do know is that another corporatist judge is certainly not what we need. As Cenk points out, we have no idea where he stands on issues such as pro-choice, but he has stood up for the NRA which should be a warning signal. Out hope has to remain that it will be Sanders making the selection.

My 2 cents.

Yes, I'm showing my age by quoting that chant.

But my vote is mine, and I will cast it as I please.

I had one brother die in the Korean War and another one injured in that war. I had a lover who went to Vietnam and came back a complete stranger. I have a daughter who is a disabled vet from the 9/11 era.

Not one of those people dear to me suffered just so somebody can force, coerce, or shame me into voting a certain way.

Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.

My family was unscathed by the Korean "conflict". But Nam? It killed souls.
A generation of vets, a generation of mother fucking draft dodgers.
For what?

My father fought in Korea.
I feel exactly the same. He didn't call down artillery on his own position and bury himself in a bunker to help build an Oligarchy that would keep my nephew in college debt and poverty.

And he sure as hell didn't go through it so I could sit on my butt and let Hillary lie about sniper fire unchallenged.

footloose, and I agree there is no reason to get banned from TOP because we need to see exactly what the Powers That Be are doing, from the inside.
Cenk nailed it, and he was vilified at TOP, stopped bothering to post on that progressive site. It won't be long before Bill Moyers gets the treatment.
Anyway, you are my heart, jamess.

for that vote confidence, on the cusp.

I appreciate it.

I hope I can be a progressive pain in their side for a some time to come.

neither will the Corporate Media, by the time it's done.)

In the end, it is important to remember that we cannot become what we need to be, by remaining what we are...

Thanks Jamess for posting this. Ever since I heard this "tone it down" crap coming from the Clinton camp I was wondering what they were talking about. I thought I had missed something, but apparently criticizing Clinton for her positions on key issues facing the American people (& the rest of the world for that matter) is now taboo. I am so disgusted with the Clinton Democratic Party that I am seriously considering changing my affiliation to Independent except that in Illinois that means I wouldn't be able to vote in either primary. Judging from the comments I have read here and elsewhere I think it's time the disenfranchised 90% of us got together and created a new political party. When I thought I was a Democrat many people used to discuss how the poor dumb southerners would vote against their own interests just to be loyal to a particular party even when that party was actively conspiring against them. Now I wake up to find the Democrats are doing the same thing. Cenk is right. This isn't about Bernie it's about US. If Bernie pivoted right no one in their right mind would follow him. The main reason I support Bernie and a handful of other candidates is because they are representing my perspective. When they stop doing that I'll stop supporting them. & by the way f*ck Harry Reid. He has supported Chuck Schumer to replace him when it should have been Dick Durbin and he has targeted Alan Grayson of Florida by supporting a DINO & let's not forget that he refused to support Rick Weiland of South Dakota when he ran for the Senate in 2014. The Democratic establishment and the Republican establishment ARE the establishment period. By the way thanks for offering refuge from TOP.
