Friday Night Photos - The Blooming Hot Edition

Basically no Spring,... straight into Summer (it's 90F outside).

Visited the local swamp last week. No evidence of Trump doing anything useful:

Thunderstorms last night, with some interesting clouds:

Off to find some shade. Keep cool!

Thanks for hosting bollox. The swamps here are no place for a human. Ticks and Skeeters galore. Highest water levels I've seen in years. That's a good thing.

Golden-fronted are about 99% restricted to Texas in the U.S., ranging south into Mexico at least. The eastern U.S. counterpart is the Red-bellied Woodpecker with a pale red instead of golden lower belly, and a red cap without color changes or breaks. The Southwest has a counterpart, the mostly Saguaro nesting Gila Woodpecker, mostly in AZ. The three are a very closely related group, all with zebra patterned upperparts, pale unmarked underparts, and differ in various head colors and markings.

Beautiful snow in moonlight photo!

The little guy isn't so little anymore. Yet he has the softest squeak, which doesn't help when he shuts himself in the bathroom.

Off to deepest Middlesex in the next few weeks:

Here's a view from the west and you can see the towers.

good morning friday night
hummernest.jpg
Hummingbird nest, no occupants
Blew off the top of a big old walnut snag in to my friend's front yard.
Up in Willits, for off grid entertainment I used to watch the hummers pick off Coyote Brush fluff to build a nest like that. Good times.

Where's Waldo?
squirrelnest.jpg

In a squirrel nest that sits about 30 feet from my head right now. LOL it's that darker area right in the middle behind the double wires. I watched the little pest yesterday as it gathered a giant mouthful of redwood bark across the street, then brought it right up the oak tree next to my deck. I never would have known there's a nest there, they are so sneaky. Lucky me, a new pest nest! woo hoo

Thanks a lot every one, Fred-day Night Photos are great! Missing janis b this week.

Peace

@eyo

I love the sound of 'hi eyo'. Thanks for the nest photos. How different they are. Here is one my daughter found over 15 years ago. It's similar to your hummingbird nest. It's the same size, and the bird is hardly bigger than a hummingbird.

A Silvereye nest ...

Here's the bird and nest ...

for checking in. A friend who I only see once a year is visiting from a distance. Although we are in once-in-awhile contact by email, there’s nothing more engaging than meeting face-to-face. He’s a retired actor, now gardener. Politics was hardly discussed past discussing the state of the planet. Specifically, the Kauri forest here. I will highlight the Kauri tree next Friday.

Warm wishes to you.

I can’t decide whether spring green or mango tango orange is my favourite crayola colour.

I'm voting for spring green. We had an amazingly beautiful one this year and now most of the blooms have left to return next year. The lilac bushes were more full this year. I'll post some photos of some of the ones I saw next week. So many photos to choose from ...
