Friday Photos - Rush Job Edition

Friends are due to arrive very soon, so this is rushed.

Anyway, here's Purfleet dreaming of Spring (aren't we all):

Watch for Spring.jpg

And Fred doing his interpretation of a talk show host (via a cheap point and shoot):

I won't be around much, but feel free to ruminate on the glories of photography.

Fred is such a handsome guy. Perfect talk-show host material.

I'm going to photograph the tree as it flowers. I have no idea what kind it is, but it's not a pussy willow tree. Don't they grow on vines? I vaguely remember them from my childhood and that was sadly many decades ago. Sad

Foxtails are nasty little buggers. My beagle used to get them in her nose and if she couldn't sneeze them out it was off to the vet. We had to go there quite a few times because they wormed their way into my dawg's legs. Nasty ....

This is some of this type of tree and from what I found online, most people buy this type.

Butterflies are both beautiful and fascinating creatures. When I lived in New York, I used to go to the Bronx Zoo and visit the Butterfly exhibit they had there. Butterflies would just land on your outstretched hand. It was amazing. Learned a few things about butterflies too. Two things stuck in my mind.

1. When caterpillars go into the chrysalis stage, they actually dissolve into (for lack of a more official term) caterpillar juice. Imagine that? The caterpillar becomes nothing before it can become a butterfly.

2. Butterflies are a sign of a healthy Eco-system. So if you see butterflies in your garden, you must be doing something right. Smile

Thanks for the stunning pictures and the heads up about the butterfly exhibit. I live in Southern California now so I may have to make a visit there!

The butterfly exhibit runs through April 15th. If you make a trip to the park I recommend going during the week when it's not so crowded and I wouldn't wait more than a week. If you wait to long there will be less butterflies and the ones still there will be showing signs of wear.

About the butterfly exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. Last time I was there back in the 1980's, I visited the children's zoo where I saw baby aardvarks being born and watched a baby Bengal tiger play with the big "cat" toys they had put in one of their enclosed play areas. It was funny to watch this baby Bengal tiger play with cardboard boxes and balls the same way my house cats did. Cuteness meter was off the charts!!!

Your bird gathering is always a treat.
I saw a small (20-30') tree today on the same walk as the deer and there were six different birds in it.
Tufted Titmouse, Red Wing Blackbird, Sparrow, Chickadee, Junco, and a Nuthatch. I was so stunned to see such a variety that I never touched the camera.
