Military Totalitarianism Takes Over Amerika

military parade2.jpg

military parade4.jpg

miitary parade3.jpg

So Emperor Trump wants a military parade. Run it right up and down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. in front of millions of incredibly brainwashed people. Mindless people. Stepford citizens, if you look closely you'll see a little scar from an incision on the backs of their necks. Just like in the movies. We are in a movie, man.

We gotta change the fucking channel.

Trump wants to be worshiped. You don't really need a psychiatrist do you? Come on now.

It couldn't happen here? It is happening here. Look around.

Hey, but I say, it's an opportunity. I mean, if it isn't, then we're fucked. Maybe we're fucked anyway, but we surely will be if we don't take this opportunity.

We need to rev up the Peace Train.

It's perfect if you think about it. We need to stop the madness. Those ruling this country are fucking crazy. They want war, more war, nuclear weapons, more nuclear weapons, more submarines, more aircraft carriers, more EVERYTHING. Especially WAR!. And the militarism that comes with it. There couldn't be a better time to wake people up. Maybe.

Here comes Trump with a military industrial complex wet dream of a military parade in D.C., the nation's cesspool of sociopaths and psychopaths. The symbolism is frightening.

If there ever was a time to fight for Peace, it's now. If ever there was a time for a revolution, it is now. You know, it's already too late.

Children were exhorted in school to denounce even their own parents for derogatory remarks about Hitler or Nazi ideology."

All we're missing here today is the Trump Youth - just a matter of time though; we already have the Koch-DeVos education system working its way there.

Isn't it true that every honest German is ashamed of his government these days? Who among us has any conception of the dimensions of shame that will befall us and our children when one day the veil has fallen from our eyes and the most horrible of crimes– crimes that infinitely outdistance every human measure– reach the light of day?

foists upon innocents in the unending theaters of war the country has been involved in since it's inception.

When three thousand American citizens were killed in 9/11, the country went berserk. More than half the nation wanted to go and "kick some ass, any ass" in bloody retribution. The US military is still kicking ass 17 years later with no end in sight. It is estimated that 4 million men, women and children have (so far) paid the price with their deaths. Ancillary carnage in this ill-conceived War on of Terror- wounding, loss of limbs, homes, income, mental anguish - is incalculable.

There is something deeply wrong with the American psyche - it's typical response to most national (and domestic) security threats is pathological. The nation is sick and getting sicker. This is showing up within the general population with increasing gun violence and drug consumption in ALL segments of the society.

America has been responsible, directly or indirectly, for the deaths of 20 to 30 million people worldwide since WWII, more than any other nation in the world. And most of the killed have been peoples of color.

(Sorry for the rant but that photo pisses me off to no end.)

I wonder how many people even bothered to wonder why we were hit on 9/11. Did they just think that we've been minding our business and bam someone decided to kill as many people as they could? We know why they would want a little payback after all the shit we had been doing since the end of WWII.

The number of people who have been killed by this country since the end is closer to a billion according to one report I read. I know that if my family had been wiped out by one of someone's bomb that I sure as hell would want revenge.

Americans pulled a 180 on support for the war when they were faced with what we were making our husbands, sons, grandsons, neighbors do to support the American need for power and control.

That naked child just screamed “America is willing to sacrifice anyone anywhere in its never-ending quest for empire’.

Those pictures brought the war into Americans living rooms. There was no fooling ourselves after that.

American society has been carefully brainwashed and pathologized over decades by armies of propaganda/'social engineering' experts in the long-running plans of psychopaths aching for global fascist domination and power over all, for which America has been drained and used, as previously was Germany, by psychopathic US industrialists who failed the first time and who could well fail again.

Look at the number of Americans who have survived this while retaining humanity, and retain your faith in the human spirit over the mindless, soulless egotism and greed of the Psychopaths That Be.

They are not you, they are not America.

The true American Dream of the more enlightened US Founders was of government of, by and for the people, with equal rights, treatment and opportunity for all, with no standing armies, with corporations kept strictly in check and none allowed to predate upon those more vulnerable, with the right of the pursuit of personal happiness recognized, making the direction of legitimate law absolutely obvious. (When are corporations ever 'happy'? Ever seen one joyously smiling while walking down the street? Not the people within it, the ones already having the same rights as everyone else and not entitled to 'purchased extras' which nobody else can afford. I mean the actual evasion-of-personal-liability-enabling agreement - defined as utterly irresponsible in illicit US 'law' - corporation, given political 'purchase rights' over the governance and law of actual US human citizens. Who were guaranteed self-rule, and the universal protection of rights throughout all States of the Union.)

Even at that time, the more far-seeing and less self-interested Founders (please note, not 'ruling funders') were attempting to fight (as they did against the self-interested among them, for the inclusion of the Bill of Rights,) what we're dealing with now. That is your heritage and vision - not the worship of those who can 'get rich quick (at the expense of others) and the Devil take the hindmost (crippled by the exertion of this pathology)'.

Those precepts are not mere words but concepts, principles, the basis of legitimate law in America under her Constitution. The fact that powerful groups ignore or illegally distort law and their use of words describing concepts does not make them less real, less basic to humanity/species survival or less overarching; they still obtain and are still true.

TPTB are deluded, believe they can make their own reality and impose this on true reality - and attempt to control people by conditioning them, en masse, into accepting their unreal and pathological world-view via 'normalization' and other propaganda techniques. These fascist lunatics are turning the world into a lunatic asylum because they have been cheated into (public) positions of making blatantly unconstitutional legislation and people accept this as legitimate law that controls them, when it has been self-servingly created in defiance of all principle, sanity and sense by interlopers.

They are copralite (petrified dung) to your 'OPOL', gems of pissed-off (actual) liberals shining with humanity in its very best sense. Don't let the Psychopaths That Be discourage you into accepting the views they wish you to accept, that what they are and have inflicted bears any relation to 'human nature' or is in any sense 'inevitable'; this is its opposite and seeks to corrupt/destroy all it cannot understand and micromanage for typically short-term personal use, a deadly pathology destroying all it touches in blind, devouring greed until/unless it is stopped by the very human capacities seen by the psychopathic as exploitable vulnerabilities.

We can no longer allow them to twist, suppress and use against us the essential human capacities they lack, of empathy, ethics and the ability for long-range and critical thinking but which may allow us to take back our destinies, our democracies and the chance of survival.

They have nothing but lies, deception and the stolen might to use against all right, which we must not allow to influence our perceptions so that we permit them to have it all and simply wait for whatever doom they visit upon us, in however many ongoing ways. They may ignore, but cannot obviate, our inherent and perpetual human and citizen rights, they can only make us think they can.

But they spread their evil this way.

Woke up rather late and was beginning (not absorbing much very well, lol,) to watch this, from 2015, a portion of which (starts perhaps 6 or 7 minutes in) provided me with some further insight into AfriCom and the hostility against, and plans to subjugate/nuke, China, along with other countries capable of self-defense:

Germans Demonstrate How to Microwave Your ID - #NewWorldNextWeek

Published on 20 Aug 2015

Welcome to New World Next Week — the video series from Corbett Report and Media Monarchy that covers some of the most important developments in open source intelligence news. This week:

http://tinyurl.com/q5zxfkt
US vs China in Djibouti
http://tinyurl.com/q44qul2
NWNW Flashback: “Africom”
http://tinyurl.com/oytxysu

Trump has given the military Generals, in what's becoming more and more a privatized corporate military/intelligence service, their heads, which means that they take those of others as freely as they please. What they are beginning will finish us all, if they are not stopped. There used to be a saying about good old American ingenuity; haven't heard that saying lately, but I'll bet a lot more of it's still around than we hear of.

In the US Constitution, which the Trilateral Commission, ALEC, etc. wish and are pushing to rewrite to suit themselves in a 'runaway Con Con', it is clearly stated that if the US government becomes oppressive, it is the right of Americans to replace it with one truly of, by and for the people, to fulfill the real American dream of a civilized and sustainable society of caring and free equals.

Personally, I'd say that one of the most immediate and likely-to-succeed goals should be to fight hard to replace the corrupt with Progs only within at least one of the only two permitted 'political parties', as moving to a single-party-choice-system obviously involves dropping the pretense of giving 'a democratic choice' to The People and thereby internationally also drops any shreds of any pretense of legitimacy. They rely upon what they term 'optics' still, as they fear The People taking back their stolen power, together with their already accelerating loss of international support and alliances, due to the increasing recognition of their pathology and of the upcoming fatality to all with its continued exertion.

Get in a majority of one Party actually acting for the public good, and it becomes possible to enact legislation for Fair Voting to allow multiple Parties and political choices for which people can freely vote and have their votes count - and counted. Without being tossed off the rolls for being in a category 'likely to vote wrongly'.

Never to 'forgive' further cheating, never to 'forget' or accept suspicious electoral results 'as a done deal' to encourage corruption to worsen, as it has.

All feasible chances toward the gaining of American democracy must be promptly pursued, in finally achieving that promised freedom of the pursuit of happiness among, and because of having, all of the rest. While anything remains to be salvaged of the already dying-for-profit-and-power natural life support system on which we all depend.

Edited for the traditional letter-typo which I noticed laughing at me while waiting for this to post. Sneaky devils...

@travelerxxx

I believe it's an important point; part of that propaganda campaign has been aimed at citizens to incite perpetual victim-blaming among each other to the point where some of the aware are blaming themselves for what was done by order of the Psychopaths That Be, even knowing that they have no control over their embezzled government and despise what's being so shamefully done in their name.

Blame needs to be properly attributed and accountability narrowed down to those so far avoiding it.

And Progressives need to be all-out supported and installed to replace the corrupt mess masquerading government now as there will be no chance permitted later, if there is indeed 'a later' remaining...

Yes, we've got to realize that there are forces arrayed against us - "the aware," as you name them. I do say "us," as most here on C99 fall into that camp. It's not just us here, of course. I have friends and co-workers who fall into that category whose political leanings might at first seem diametrically opposed to what's often seen here at C99, yet they are much more "woke" than your average TOP correspondent. It's interesting that they face a somewhat different type of wedge-driving, although the hoped for result (by the think tanks) is the same: division, hate, fear.

I often suspect the real goal of the propaganda is to turn us into inert, docile lumps of flesh.

@travelerxxx

And I suspect that you're dead-on right in all of the above.

Nobody will ever agree with anyone else on everything, there will always be differences of opinion, but which needn't mean 'war'; the decades of brainwashing to condition people to hate and fear differences of any kind and to react strongly against them must be overcome and, actually, a fair bit of this has been, mostly due to Bernie. As long as we can learn to unite on the big things, the basic survival and democracy issues, I believe that we can overcome the evils. It's just not going to be easy, to say the least.

They think that our awesome military equipment should be shown because they are so proud of our men and women who put their lives on the line for us.

People are yawning in the face of possible nuclear war with either Russia or N. Korea instead of being in the streets over the threat of global devestation and congress should be making damn sure that Trump isn't able to do it. Instead the jackasses are spending time on the false Russian crap and whether to shut down the government. Again. Pelosi's stunt of standing in 4" heels yesterday could have been for demanding that congress funds all the social programs that are underfunded, for warning about how dangerous the talks of using smaller nukes and a number of other issues that are facing Americans. But no, she's taking a stand on DACA while America's toilets are overflowing.

Why is this government intent on bringing NK inline? Because it didn't get its way back in the early 1940's when it wanted to install its own puppet regime, establish a permanent military presence to defend US commercial interests, and maintain control of a strategically-located territory that is a critical part of Washington’s plan to encircle Russia and China to remain the dominant global power throughout the century. Look at what we have done to since then.

The other reason for the threat has to do with Russia and China of course. If we can't own the world then nobody is going to either.

Americans love a parade.

The Feds can arrange for huge military displays, deploying tens of thousands of men from all the branches along with many tanks, missiles and other military hardware. Several dozen of these divisions will rotate throughout America on a weekly basis so that every American city with a population over 100,000 can have a parade every year. Of course this will entail bringing home a large contingent of the forces that are now deployed overseas but I believe it will be worth it.

It's time we spent some of that trillion dollar defense budget on the average American. They can give out free flags, hotdogs and Big Gulps.

With Democrats now officially aligned with the Republican war party, there should be little resistance from the lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to get a bill passed.

@CB

With Democrats now officially aligned with the Republican war party, there should be little resistance from the lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to get a bill passed.

There is one difference between war policy among the parties:

Democrats are in favor of war. However, they want a democrat to run them.

Republicans are in favor of war. However, they want a republican to run them.

Saw this when Trump launched cruise missiles at Syria. Democrats favored the missile strikes. Their complaint for the most part was that Trump mis-managed the strike and did not kill any Russians or inflict more damage. In fact, the liberal denizens at Young Turks like Cenk have argued that this lack of murder and destruction to appropriate levels shows that Trump is Putin's puppet.

So democrats will support war, but attack the gop president for being an incompetent military leader.

So gopers will support war, but in the case of Obama, attack him for being an incompetent military leader.

CONFIRMED: US admits ‘unipolar moment’ is over
Review admits ‘Great Power competition’ has returned

The US Nuclear Posture Review is a seminal document, not just because of the nuclear weapons build up it speaks of – worrying though that is – but because it represents a formal admission by the US that the so-called ‘unipolar moment’ – the period after the end of the Cold War when the US enjoyed unchallenged global dominance – is over.

So far from being the world’s unchallenged and unchallengeable ‘hyperpower’ and world hegemon, the US admits that it is now once again just one of three Great Powers – the US, Russia and China – albeit that it still considers itself to be the strongest of the three.

The Review admits this unambiguously. One of its chapters is straightforwardly entitled “The Return of Great Power competition”.
...
Russian and Chinese officials strongly object to this characterisation of their countries’ foreign and defence policies, which they say is misleading and wrong.

However that is to miss the point. The point is that for the first time since the end of the Cold War the US sees itself as challenged by other Great Powers – specifically Russia and China – which are militarily and technologically and – in China’s case – economically comparable to itself.

It is in order to respond to this challenge that the US is embarking on the massive upgrade in its nuclear forces which the Review discusses.

This proposed upgrade is indeed massive, though the Review goes out of its way to deny (unconvincingly) its likely huge financial cost.
...
On the subject of the US ‘regime change’ wars against Iraq, Libya and Syria, and the US’s increasingly flagrant disregard of the authority of the UN Security Council of which both Russia and China are permanent members, the Review has nothing to say at all.

Not surprisingly, since the US cannot admit – apparently even to itself – how its actions might be perceived in Russia and China, its response to the increasing challenges which it admits it is facing is to double down.

Thus the programme to embark upon a vast upgrade of US nuclear forces which the Review outlines.

This is staggeringly short-sighted. The international position of the US has markedly deteriorated in recent years- as the Review says – precisely because of the responses from Russia and China to the US’s own actions.
...
The US Nuclear Forces Review is in fact a deeply ominous document.

It shows that the US realises that its period of unquestioned global dominance has ended, but instead of responding to this by moderating its policies and reaching out to its potential adversaries, it is escalating its policies against them further.

That can only increase the ‘threat environment’ the return of which the Review spends so much time lamenting.

Moreover the authors of the Review, who come across as intelligent and well-informed people, obviously know it. However considerations of ideology, pride and self-interest prevent them from drawing the obvious conclusions from it.

Make them smaller, smarter and more accurate so they can limit the damage.

But this has a downside. It makes them easier to contemplate using and it fails to account for a future president that is a confirmed war hawk like Killary or a readily swayed Trumper. I can envision either of those goofs using these new weapons to make their "points". There are many psychopaths running the show in the Pentagon. It's almost a necessity for advancement and promotion in the mass killing industry.

As U.S. Modernizes Nuclear Weapons, ‘Smaller’ Leaves Some Uneasy

JAN. 11, 2016
...
Gen. James E. Cartwright, a retired vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who was among Mr. Obama’s most influential nuclear strategists, said he backed the upgrades because precise targeting allowed the United States to hold fewer weapons. But “what going smaller does,” he acknowledged, “is to make the weapon more thinkable.”

As Mr. Obama enters his final year in office, the debate has deep implications for military strategy, federal spending and his legacy.
...
“Mr. President, kill the new cruise missile,” read the headline of a recent article by Mr. Weber, the former assistant secretary of defense, and William J. Perry, a secretary of defense under President Bill Clinton and an author of the plan to gradually eliminate nuclear weapons that captivated Mr. Obama’s imagination and endorsement.

They argued that the cruise missile might sway a future president to contemplate “limited nuclear war.” Worse yet, they said, because the missile comes in nuclear and non-nuclear varieties, a foe under attack might assume the worst and overreact, initiating nuclear war.

I read an article that claimed a tactical nuke a soldier could carry on his back had the equivalent explosive power of the 15 kiloton nuke America dropped on Hiroshima. I'm guessing the proverbial "suitcase nuke" could rain 5 kilotons of explosive destruction down on it's target.

[Edit] Wow! It looks like the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs would be considered tactical nukes by today's standards:

There is no precise definition of the "tactical" category, neither considering range nor yield of the nuclear weapon.

Suitcase nukes:

Small, two-man portable, or truck-portable, tactical weapons (sometimes misleadingly referred to as suitcase nukes), such as the Special Atomic Demolition Munition and the Davy Crockett recoilless rifle (recoilless smoothbore gun), have been developed, although the difficulty of combining sufficient yield with portability could limit their military utility. In wartime, such explosives could be used for demolishing "choke-points" to enemy offensives, such as at tunnels, narrow mountain passes, and long viaducts.

If Walmart (and the rest) are really working on as thin of a profit margin as they claim, then a nationwide boycott of even a few days would hurt them quite a bit. After all, they claim their thin margin is why they are "forced" to open on Xmas, Thanksgiving, etc. It's possible they are telling the truth. It's also possible that they're simply greedy.

Of course, any boycott of WM (etc) would doubtless have the business loudly announcing how they were going to have to lay off a thousand workers due to the bottom line hit. You can see that coming from a mile away....

At least some of the Walmart heirs are suffering and 'poorer' than thought.

While most here are likely aware of this sort of thing, it's essential that people in general understand what gets counted (as with votes) for taxation purposes and what gets referred to as 'charity' among the super wealthy, even though it appears that the 'potential' beneficiary gets it in the end.

I can see wanting to conserve assets for family, but 'charitable' dodges - especially under these circumstances - set my teeth on edge. These are not impoverished people; they have more that they could ever spend - while their workers suffer and the public purse is drained on their behalf to provide their underpaid workers with further (if inadequate) additional basic (and very limited and controlled) survival aid being further cut to suit the already super-wealthy who again have had their taxes cut, (increasing their transferred burden onto underpaid taxpayers, who will also have to pay the debt created throughout whatever future time, since they can't possibly pay it all on their own) who then use even the pretext of 'charity' to avoid any semblance of paying that (reduced) portion of their fair share of tax (in any area) to keep the country running, in order to transfer their tax burden - along with the rest - onto the underpaid and already-drained portion of The Disposable public long collapsing beneath this:

Walmart Employs 1% Of America. Should It Be Forced To Pay Its Employees More?

Henry Blodget

Sep. 20, 2010,

... Walmart's global sales crossed $400 billion last year. Its profits exceeded $15 billion. Its market value--$200 billion--has weathered the Great Recession and market crash and remains near all-time highs.

Walmart Stock

Walmart employs an astounding 2.1 million people. In the United States alone, the company employs 1.4 million people. This is a staggering 1% of the U.S.'s 140 million working population.

Walmart, in other words, matters. Its payrolls, and its pay, move the needle.

And right now, many people argue, Walmart is very much part of the problem. ...

From 2014 (2013 data):

https://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2014/04/15/report-walmart-work...

Apr 15, 2014 @ 03:35 PM 1,167,665

Report: Walmart Workers Cost Taxpayers $6.2 Billion In Public Assistance

Clare O'Connor ,

Walmart's low-wage workers cost U.S. taxpayers an estimated $6.2 billion in public assistance including food stamps, Medicaid and subsidized housing, according to a report published to coincide with Tax Day, April 15.

Americans for Tax Fairness, a coalition of 400 national and state-level progressive groups, made this estimate using data from a 2013 study by Democratic Staff of the U.S. Committee on Education and the Workforce.

"The study estimated the cost to Wisconsin’s taxpayers of Walmart’s low wages and benefits, which often force workers to rely on various public assistance programs," reads the report, available in full here.

"It found that a single Walmart Supercenter cost taxpayers between $904,542 and $1.75 million per year, or between $3,015 and $5,815 on average for each of 300 workers." ...

In this case, much of this money involved has been and is drained from underpaid workers and the public purse and the public needs to know how tax returns to that public purse can be avoided, by those having accumulated the most from draining them through various methods in every step of the way, using not only such as offshoring/'Delawaring' 'offices'/money and LLC/Foundation plans -

(Reminder: Biden's home stomping grounds. Kinda makes you wonder if the financial leaks which caught few Americans were strategic in order to increase such business in Delaware, now being promoted as the best place in the world for this kind of thing. And for making anonymous political contributions, of course - very handy, especially for foreign interests. Emphasis mine; although the entire quoted portion actually merits this, the business/billionaire-purchased/controlled political/legislative aspect explains so very much.)

Forget Panama: it's easier to hide your money in the US than almost anywhere

The term tax haven may evoke images of exotic locales, but Panama actually ranks as the 13th most attractive spot for hiding assets, while the US lies third

Jana Kasperkevic in New York
@kasperka
Email

Wed 6 Apr 2016

...One of the surprises about the Panama Papers – the largest leak from an offshore tax adviser in history – is how few Americans have so far been exposed. The reason? It may be because creating a shell company in the US is easier than obtaining a library card. ...

... “You don’t really have to go to Panama or other tax havens. They are not the only ones making it possible for corrupt officials and other criminals to launder their money. You can do it in every state in the US,” explained Shah.

“In every state in the US, you can incorporate an LLC – [a limited liability company] – or another legal entity and you don’t have to disclose who the beneficiary on it is. In fact, Delaware is so synonymous with anonymous companies and ghost corporations that it was named in Transparency International’s Unmask the Corrupt campaign as one of the most symbolic cases of corruption.” ...

... Shell companies have their uses; they can be used to buy land anonymously, for example, without tipping off the competition. To create an entity to protect future business rights, or a holding company for various businesses. They can also be used to, legally, make political contributions anonymously. ...

... Shell companies, whether created abroad or at home, make it easy for people to hide assets and commit crimes, said Shah. For example, in the mid-2000s, former Louisiana congressman William Jefferson had created eight different shell companies to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes. Viktor Bout, an infamous arms trafficker known as the Merchant of Death, had at least a dozen shell companies incorporated in Delaware, Texas and Florida to cover up his weapons trafficking operation. ...

... In order for any legislation to pass, the US business community would have to come out in support of it, pointed out Lowe.

“The US Chamber of Commerce has long opposed legislation to end anonymous companies, and they must reverse that position and begin to support honest and open business practices,” she said.

- and the hyper-wealthy also using 'charitable donations' as well; this following is a very educational article, at least it was for me and I suspect would be for many others not expert in this field.

All emphasis mine.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-11-06/a-wal-mart-heir-is-27...

Ever since Wal-Mart heir John T. Walton died 10 years ago in a plane crash, it’s been widely assumed that he passed the bulk of his vast estate to his widow, Christy.

Turns out that was very wrong.

In what’s been a closely guarded family secret, Walton gave half of his then-$17 billion estimated fortune to charitable trusts and a third to their only child, Lukas Walton, now 29, an analysis of court documents reveals. Christy got the rest.

The filings, unsealed by a Wyoming court at Bloomberg News’s request, mean that Christy’s fortune as previously calculated has taken a big hit -- from $32 billion before the court records were unsealed to about $5 billion now. She’s unlikely to ever again reach her former designation as America’s richest woman, which she held until last month.

But her loss is Lukas’s gain. Though little-known outside of a few scattered social media posts, he becomes the 103rd-richest person in the world, with about $11 billion -- and as much as $25 billion if certain trusts are included, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. ...

... As a result of that holding, Lukas may wield a key vote in the closely held entity, which together with another family trust controls a 50.2 percent stake in Wal-Mart Stores Inc. At more than $100 billion, the Waltons -- siblings Jim, Rob and Alice, as well as Lukas and Christy -- can claim one of the world’s largest family fortunes, according to the index. ...

... John Walton’s own bequest appeared to take advantage of several tools to reduce taxes on the estate. The estate was appraised at $6.6 billion, according to the documents.

Yet, the Wal-Mart shares controlled by John Walton’s estate would have had a market value of $17 billion at the time of his death if he hadn’t given any of his holdings away during his lifetime, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That discount in part reflects the holding structure the family has established for their shares, according to John Anzivino, head of the estates and trust division at Miami-based accountants Kaufman Rossin.

The LLC may have all kinds of restrictions, such as profit allocations and lack of control, which reduce its value from the market value of the stock itself,” he said. In Bloomberg’s analysis, the net worth of Christy and Lukas is calculated using the retailer’s stock price.
Appraised Value

This structure saw the estate estimate its tax liability to be about $1.4 billion, only 21 percent of the appraised value. The top federal estate tax rate was 47 percent in 2005, according to Anzivino. This is the rate on the portion passing to the child subject to estate tax in excess of the exemption of $1.5 million. Christy, as the surviving spouse, gets her share estate tax-free and the gift to the charitable trusts are estate tax-free.

John Walton’s will split the estate into two parts.

Half of the estate was placed into tax-friendly vehicles known as charitable lead annuity trusts, or CLATs, of which Lukas is the only beneficiary.

For the other half, Walton directed that two-thirds was to be held in trust for Lukas. The remainder went to his widow.

The charitable trusts make annual non-taxable payments under IRS guidelines to the Walton Family Foundation charitable arm until 2036. If its investments outperform certain benchmarks, whatever is left at the end goes to Lukas without any tax bill.
Future Performance

In Bloomberg’s calculation, Lukas isn’t credited with the portion of the estate held by the charitable trusts. If he were, his net worth would be as high as $25 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Depending on future performance, Lukas may not receive anything from these CLATs, according to an adviser for the family who asked not to be named as the details are private. It was John Walton’s intent to leave half his estate to charity, the adviser said.

Currently the trusts are accumulating assets faster than they’re giving them away, according to an analysis by Bloomberg based on the fair market value of these trusts as reported in annual IRS filings. That suggests the underlying assets could ultimately pass to Lukas in 21 years. ...
