Roundup-style spraying of US Ideals and Regulations
Gah. We have been doing our usual deal camping in Africa for a couple of months etc since April and only checking in from time to time, but when we do we are astounded at the attacks on all we hold dear by the current gov, the duopoly, and Mr. Trump.
This afternoon, instead of being out getting in some exercise further exploring old Venetia we got roped into reading C99 and other news.
Seems like progressive ideals and protections around the world are getting broad spectrum spraying to kill out the good and let back in the old in favor of the super rich. But you know that.
Every NGO we support including enviro, conservation, civil liberties, political action, you name it, all have an email documenting the amazing attacks ramped up in the last months.
Also, last night at a locals bar here in Venice the bar tender was sharing about how the Cruise Ship/Tourism realated industies/Italian government have made channels and changes in the lagoon that were wreaking havoc not only on the fishery ecosystem but on the foundations of the old city itself that the fishermen and local property owners were having to fight for their lives.
Came to mind Shock Doctrine/Disaster Capitalism so decided to search twitter to see what Naomi Klein had to say recently:
Powerful read: Naomi Klein unpacks current US politics in context of #disaster capitalism and the 'shock doctrine' https://t.co/4qRze2KcWi

You may have already have seen this, but if you have not, might be worth a read.
Here's a snippet:
I started to notice the same tactics in disaster zones around the world. I used the term “shock doctrine” to describe the brutal tactic of using the public’s disorientation following a collective shock – wars, coups, terrorist attacks, market crashes or natural disasters – to push through radical pro-corporate measures, often called “shock therapy”. Though Trump breaks the mould in some ways, his shock tactics do follow a script, and one that is familiar from other countries that have had rapid changes imposed under the cover of crisis.
This strategy has been a silent partner to the imposition of neoliberalism for more than 40 years. Shock tactics follow a clear pattern: wait for a crisis (or even, in some instances, as in Chile or Russia, help foment one), declare a moment of what is sometimes called “extraordinary politics”, suspend some or all democratic norms – and then ram the corporate wishlist through as quickly as possible. The research showed that virtually any tumultuous situation, if framed with sufficient hysteria by political leaders, could serve this softening-up function. It could be an event as radical as a military coup, but the economic shock of a market or budget crisis would also do the trick. Amid hyperinflation or a banking collapse, for instance, the country’s governing elites were frequently able to sell a panicked population on the necessity for attacks on social protections, or enormous bailouts to prop up the financial private sector – because the alternative, they claimed, was outright economic apocalypse.
The Republicans under Donald Trump are already seizing the atmosphere of constant crisis that surrounds this presidency to push through as many unpopular, pro-corporate policies. And we know they would move much further and faster given an even bigger external shock. We know this because senior members of Trump’s team have been at the heart of some of the most egregious examples of the shock doctrine in recent memory.
What's it going to take to stop this?

I wish the problems could be solved with...
a nice peaceful protest where everybody is equally represented and respected, neatly confined to a legal free speech zone with proper permits.
Unfortunately, the only thing that probably WILL make the PTB take the plebs seriously is the threat of a popular rising.

Why do you think they keep tabs on Veterans?
They put a bunch of us on a watch list under Obama, claiming we were racists. Of course they immediately walked it back, but never took us off the watch list as my 6/6 searches at airport security attest.

They are completely INSANE if they start fucking with Vets benefits. Of course, we all knew that about them, but there's a reason you keep the legionnaires happy if you want your empire to survive.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Agree. They also went after peace activists under Mr. BO.

Klein talks about New Orleans a great deal in this
and Mr. Pence's connection to it and implications for the future. Her cautionary writing for the level of fail we are facing is sobering.

Well, there's our answer to why
our infrastructure is allowed to rot away and our wars are now endless. Allow it all to fall apart, break the Treasury with mountains of debt, allow water, food, soil and air to be contaminated at will, and who knows, maybe take the power grid down to add that extra measure of panic. They're indeed bringing it home now to the good old USA, USA, USA!!!!!!

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
Exactly.

The real SparkyGump has passed. It was an honor being your human.
Does Klein ever make recommendations on
what the people should do, or does she just sell books?
Selling books is good. Movies. Vids.
You know I first learned about NK in EB where she was highly respected and referenced.
YMMV. The video I linked above, if you have the time or are really that interested, has her show and tell on specifically the type of actions to take from her point of veiw.

Most important to me Big Al and do and all...
my humble feelings:
Appreciate your respect for each other in communicating and want to share in the spirit, i believe, of c99's creation and a brief word about the significance of protecting our community from those who come or are here, presently, who have yet to understand that c99p is not the typical internet (political) community.
Newcomers in future may not understand the welcome mat. It comes with unwritten rules of tolerance, being kind, opening the mind to fellow posters and being free to express whatever in exchange for not being a dick.
c99p is a jewel of a place!
In time, most newcomers here drop the 'norm' of other blogs and websites where garnering hits off people's competitiveness, disagreements, emotions, beliefs and thinking rules the threads, where posters pile on, vulgarity trumps dignity, and dicks are allowed; making bank off human's good intentions.
Thanks for pointing out that we have responsibility to each other, and as always do and Al, for being examples; demonstrating without preaching, the simple, respectful way of disagreeing with another member without the BS.
Cheers
Thanks for this excellent expression. Sometimes

High impact lead poisoning. And the militarized cops drop the hammer. And we find out where those 330 million weapons have been.
And that's for starters.
