Trump wasn't Turned by the Deep State, He's just a Fricking Liar

After the fifth online article I read today claiming how Donald Trump has been "turned (by the deep state), persuaded (by the deep state), has had a change of heart", etc., I decided to go on a rant. Confucius say, "rants are good for the soul".

Bullshit. I'm sick of this crap about Trump being turned by the deep state, that he's not keeping his "promises" because they've threatened his ass with JFK style "persuasion" and now has "seen the light". The assumption being Trump really did want to do what he said during his campaign but is being kept from doing that because the CIA will kill him. Remember, even Chuck the democratic party establishment pig Schumer said it was so, therefore it is so. (That's another story, i.e., we let that go?)

I wrote a "diary" on the Daily Kos almost exactly nine years ago today. I was fairly new to internet blogging at the time and hadn't yet refined my completely cynical, radical and unrelentingly critical style I use today, plus I was still a little naïve, but I did have this to say:

"The contrast we were given is that between Presidents Bush and Obama. Bush represented a culture of war, torture, loss of civil liberties, economic collapse, and banal behavior. Obama represents intelligence, calmness, pragmaticism, hope and change. There has never been a greater contrast between American presidents. The contradiction we were given comes with the path Obama appears to be taking during his Presidency, the same thing only different.

The contrast and contradiction could not be more evident. That is the gift. It is a gift of truth and realization. The truth that nothing can change the mechanisms controlling the world other than the people standing up and making it change. And the realization that if Obama can't do it, we likely will never find a single person who can."

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/04/28/725184/-Contrast-and-Contradiction

I wrote that to commemorate Obama's first 100 days in office, like there are those writing about Trump's first 100 days today. Thus, the rash of apologia for a lying, sociopathic conman regarding what he said to get elected versus what he's doing now.

Of course back than it was the same thing, there were the apologists for Obama (still are, so think about that for Trump), who jumped on me for daring to criticize the dear leader after only 100 days. But with Trump, a good portion of the conservative right are rightly questioning what the fuck he's up to, while with Obama, the left mostly remained silent, for eight fucking years. Still, most Trump supporters remain hopeful, and delusional.

Trump hasn't been turned anymore than Obama was turned. They're both consummate liars who said whatever they needed to say to get elected, then proceeded to do their job for the American oligarchy. It will be the same thing in four years, in eight years, in twelve years and in sixteen years. Just to give you something to look forward to. Remember, your vote counts, that's all you as a citizen need to know.

(Al's rules for rants requires cursing, so those turned off by it can, um, read something else. I think that's totally fair. That's like, freedom.)

So what am I ranting about? I don't know. I'm just saying the same thing I said, somewhat poorly, nine fucking years ago. And if I'm still alive, I'll probably be saying the same thing in nine more years. And we'll all be saying the same things Americans said one hundred years ago, and two hundred years ago.

The Deep State is the oligarchy and the oligarchy is the Deep State. There are no secrets anymore, the rich rule and Serfs drool. Drooling sucks. I say we start a movement, "No more Drooling". Maybe that will catch on.

@Big Al The road not taken. As we get perilously close to destroying everything it is evident the hippies were right. We could have chosen the way of kindness, love, sustainability, sharing, acceptance of other cultures, and a celebration of life, but instead we chose the way of superiority, entitlement, thievery, destruction, and the idea that we have the right to cause the death of whatever we want
It is an absolute tragedy. We were given a planet that was Eden, and we have turned it into
Hell. What a wasted opportunity.
Your musical clip made all the above evident without saying a word, very nice, thanks.

@lizzyh7 I just can't understand how our society can take such a wrong turn and become so horrific. It seems to me that it would be much easier and much more pleasant to be the other way around.

He didn't prosecute the torturers and I never believed that he was going to stop it. Torture continued in Afghanistan at the black site Baghram air base and on navy black ships. The renditions probably still happened during his tenure too.

The missile defense shields weren't for Iran but for when he decided to ramp up the war with Russia. It looks like they have been planning that since Carter's presidency if not longer.

Funny how the first comment was to correct you on how many days Barack was in office but nothing by the commenter about the topic of your diary.

TnT gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said that he had inherited the two wars from Bush , but then said that we will need to hold him to his word.
I remember Barack saying "make me do it" and by gawd we tried. Petitions, phone calls, emails etc but Barry wouldn't listen to us.
And he lied to us from the beginning of his tenure and yet people still won't admit that he did.

I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington. It began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give $5 and $10 and $20 to the cause.

What utter bullshit! He was backed by the banks and the Pritzker family during his campaign for president. Penny Pritzker was rewarded for her help by getting appointed to secretary of commerce.

This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.

Too bad that we didn't get candidate Barack as president, we got the Clinton/Bush president and all of their cabinet members.

Feel free to keep on ranting and hopefully one day we will be able to find a way to take control of our government and country.
I think that there are enough people starting to wake up from their slumber and see how much they have taken away from us.
We will just need to find a way to get around their militarized police who will be ready for us.
Smile

A leftist is someone with morally correct politics. A liberal is someone who wants to feel morally correct w/o ever putting themselves at odds with power or costing themselves opportunities or experiencing the uncomfortable emotions that truth causes.

@snoopydawg what we're doing helps. Think of Daily Kos and how that helps the establishment. We're a counter to that, albeit much smaller, but it's better than silence.
I've seen as I'm sure you have a lot of changes in how many people view things now versus ten years ago. I've seen how it started on the tubes and spread. We need much more but it's something.

@dkmich We should give credit where credit is due. I give Obama (and the Democratic establishment) credit for Donald Trump. No way in hell did Obama want Bernie in the White House. He had to think of his legacy. Bernie would have made him look even worse.

I hope there has been some sea-change in governments and enough old and new historians to write one version of Zinn's book to include the NOW. The propaganda that we are fed, contrasted with "normal" people's lives is distressing to me.

Beware the bullshit factories.

Listening to Rep. Mark Pocan talk about how the majority of Democrats supporting the budget deal and all the great things they got--and played "liar" at same time. Great effect! I made myself laugh! Oh man we are so screwed so it's so great to hear about those memories of the great 60's and 70's bands and 8 tracks! I am of the cassette/walk man generation!

Rant on! Enjoyed very much.

Confession: Took our elementary-aged children out of school the day candidate Obama came to our city. Felt proud. Felt we were witnessing history in the making and how cool was it that they got to see and hear a future president speak. Had tears in my eyes the night he won. Couldn't get enough of 'progressive' news radio to keep up with all the sh*t against him.

Then the kick in the gut came when he said "We need to look forward, not backward" or some other sh*t. It took me a couple of years; thought he was playing this massive chess game and kept waiting for the winning move. Then I even effing voted for him a second time. Ugh! LOTE, you know...I still believed my vote counted, meant something.

Now, after stints on HuffPo and TOP, I've awakened and found my people, here on c99%. I respect what you all have to say and share. You're all so smart and wonderful writers. I learn something new each day and it's just comforting to know I'm not alone. Glad I landed here! Thanks, JtC and everyone!

@Christine.MI

won. When the Obama family took the stage, all in coordinating red and black outfits, I got what some Christians refer to as "check in my spirit," but I ignored it, just like I had ignored everything during the primary had given me a "check." Rezko. Below market bank loans. Michelle getting a very high paying job after Obama was elected state senator. The position he took on equal marriage at Rick Warren's church versus the position he had taken in 1994 while looking to get elected state senator from liberal Chicago. Elbowing out his benefactor. His first job out of college. All his absences and "Present" votes in the Illinois Senate and the U.S. Senate whenever something controversial was up for a vote.

I ignored all of it until I learned about the existence of the DLC, which was on a message board the day that Obama put in Rahm's name for Chief of Staff. The more I read on that message board and elsewhere about the DLC, the more chills I had. So, at least, I have to thank Obama for being the reason I woke up.

reply to some of the nonsense being posted there about Hillary and/or Sanders.

I learned my lessons about the DLC on a similar board, kind of a baby Kos (a size comparison). Very similar philosophically to KOS, though, down to an edict. However, the owner of the board on which I used to post regularly didn't issue the edict until June, 2016, though, so later than Markos's edict. On the date the edict went effective, anyone who logged in could not post until he or she clicked to indicate agreement not to criticize Hillary.

By around 2012, I'd say most of the people from whom I'd learned so much had left the board, voluntarily or otherwise. Most of the remaining leftists declined to take the oath.
