Transgender man beaten to death in Vermont

Amos Beede, 38, was a homeless transgender man residing (if, in fact, a homeless man can be said to reside anywhere) in Vermont. Amos was found on the ground near a homeless encampment, unconscious, on May 23.

Beede suffered head trauma, including facial fractures, multiple blunt force injuries to his face and head and a number of broke ribs, police said. He had been diagnosed with bleeding on the brain known as a subdural hematoma.

Are you prepared to create & wield political power. I am, and I will will tell you how....

What did Bernie just show us all? WE ARE THE CAMPAIGN......

Bernies online campaign tools are an exponential leap beyond anything we've seen. What do we do now? Learn field operations, run for office. Attend a Camp Wellstone campaign training. If you want to wield political power, you need to know how to run a campaign. If you're going to run for office you need to learn how to be a candidate.

What We Should Remember this Memorial Day Weekend

On that Christmas Day Company I, First Platoon, was very hard hit. My good friend Oliver Coghill was on my right and a buddy named Palko was next to him. Both were killed, and I could hear Lieutenant Lawson calling for his mother.

Waking up from the long sleep?

Gopal Balakrishnan:

On numerous occasions since the 90s the left has rallied to a center-right candidate to ward off the far-right and the results have been disastrous. Not only is the far right strengthened by bolstering its credentials as the only real opposition force to the establishment, the left is drastically weakened at the expense of the center-right.

My confession

For the sake of full disclosure, I'd like to say:

I've been wrong before

Not only that, but I fully intend to be wrong again in the future. I'm a serial wrong-doer.

I know, it's shocking that someone would admit this in public. I am not perfect IRL or online.
It's an unforgivable sin.

Hellraisers Journal: Mother Jones on Hideous Conditions Of Child Slavery in Southern Cotton Mills

"Of such is the kingdom of Heaven,"
said the great teacher.
Well, if Heaven is full of undersized,
round shouldered, hollow-eyed,
listless, sleepy little angel children,
I want to go to the other place with the bad little boys and girls.

2016 Prius Two : Load Leveling

I used the tag A Road to Carbon Freedom for this series because: Reducing carbon (fossil) fuel usage is but a small first step toward a rational energy policy, worldwide. The Prius leads the way with advanced coding and systems controls.
Okay, maybe Toyota is not the leader, I just made that up (I could have been in Advertising!). I bought a Prius, and I am having a lot of fun groking now it works without consulting with the techs that designed the system. I am of the educational school of thought: Tis better to reason than to listen. Lectures can be so . . .
Boredom       Scratch one-s head       Dash 1       Scratch one-s head       Boredom
          So, let us reason together.

First Principles First? On C99 And Issues

JtC posted a helpful essay yesterday that kicked off a discussion about c99 and issues.

Johnny said this in conclusion:

Surely I understand that electing the right politician will help with the issues before us, but my point is that this site was never fixated on electoral politics up until very recently, and hopefully someday and someday soon we can get back to the issues.

How does one think productively about the issues? One begins with first principles.
Defining the issues must begin with first principles or anything and everything could be relevant.
What then constitutes first principles? More below.

Sunday - Meat Depressed

UpChuck started off with EmailGate. A fairly accurate description.

Then, he interviewed Bernie.
Bernie said he wants to go to the convention with the majority of the "pledged" delegates. He admitted he is 240 down, and that he faces an uphillary climb. But the maths ain't agin him. He can win.

the Toad tried to hammer Bernie on his message to super delegates, and Bernie just creamed it with his response.
