Politics: Get down to the REAL Nitty-Gritty

Being a politically aware person for some 58 years now (thank you Bolshevik-fleeing Granddad!) I’ve always been one of those people who frequent political discussion circles. I don’t exclude anyone on the basis they’re insane or dis/agreeable to my thinking or feelings.

Letters & Politics seeks to explore the history behind today’s major global and national news stories. A look at burning political issues and debates and their historical context within the US and worldwide, hosted by Mitch Jeserich.

To fight climate change, we need another stimulus package, a green stimulus package.
Government spending to generate jobs is a strategy pioneered in Depression America. The President called it the New Deal. Now the United Nations wants governments to spend on green jobs to combat climate change.

At long last, I simply do not care

I've come to the conclusion that the corner of the internet into which I have been shoved is the practical equivalent of a fantasy role playing game. That is, my impact on politics in the real world from posting here (and c99p is the best) is about the equal of the impact I would have playing Fortnite. That is, zero. This lack of impact has been caused by the purchase and consolidation of both news outlets and political parties by the billionaire class.

Imagine being in a desert -- barely alive and scorched. Imagine that there are hundred people with you all crawling through the desert floor trying to find water. And you do. You find an oasis with clear, shimmering water. You happily drink to your heart's content. You wonder where the other hundred people are.

Americans don't want change

*It's been a while since I've logged on and penned an essay, but life has been hectic.*

As we draw near to the midterms (or any election for that matter), we are drowned in the same messages that crop up every election cycle:

Americans want change.
Americans want a 3rd party.
Americans are hungry for someone who listens to them.

And it is all a lie.

The rebuttal is opinion polls.

Does Trump know more about this country than you do?

Before you answer think about what your answer will tell about you. He did get to be president didn't he? To do that he had to be free of many of the myths that conventional politics has made part of us.

Let me give an example. On July 4th someone "over there" pointed out the wording in our Declaration of Independence about things like "freedom" and "all men created equal", etc. and that it was written by slave owners and people who would commit genocide.
