Haiti's collapse was caused by the U.S and we're now making it worse
Submitted by gjohnsit on Sun, 08/21/2022 - 12:38amRoughly 13 months ago, Haitian President Jovenel Moise was assassinated. Because he had conspired to stay in the office long after his term had expired, and because he had denied a scheduled election from happening, very little of an elected government existed already.
That was when things got dramatically worse.
A rare instance of good news out of Haiti
Submitted by gjohnsit on Mon, 02/21/2022 - 6:28pmSometimes it seems that Haiti is a black-hole where joy and hope goes to die.
However, that isn't true today.
Last week the workers of Haiti went out on strike for higher wages, and today they won.

Haiti can't catch a break
Submitted by gjohnsit on Sat, 08/14/2021 - 1:33pmOut-of-control gang violence and political violence in the poorest nation in the hemisphere is more than enough bad news for any society..
That's normally enough, but this is Haiti. The one rule of Haiti is "no matter how bad it is, it can still get worse."

Haiti's crisis has arrived, and the U.S. reverts to Banana Wars mode
Submitted by gjohnsit on Wed, 07/07/2021 - 6:00pmAbout a month ago I posted Haiti is on the verge of a complete meltdown.
Needless to say, the meltdown is now happening.
Let's get something out of the way: I will not shed a tear for Haiti's late President Jovenel Moïse.
Haiti is on the verge of a complete meltdown
Submitted by gjohnsit on Wed, 06/09/2021 - 8:52pmWatching this video, it reminded me of what I'd read about early 20th Century China, as the last weak dynasty fell and waves of revolution rocked the nation. Followed by unrest and another revolution, and then another revolution, each one bloodier than the last.
Into that chaos and vacuum arose brutal gangs, that sometimes aligned with corrupt politicians. This is what we are seeing in Haiti today.
