Afternoon folks!

I cleaned up some really cool records this week. In the blues vein there's an early 60's Freddy King compilation that turned out quite well and a direct to disk recording of soul/blues singer Howard Tate in his later-life comeback period not to mention Otis Redding's performance at Monterey Pop festival. We've got a mess of blues-rock with albums from Roy Buchanan (a later period album), a double-live album from the J. Geils Band and Rita Coolidge's first album.

After that, we've got a fine double live bluegrass album from the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band. We finish up with a rock album from Be Bop Deluxe, a band that didn't get the attention that their talent deserved here in the states - check it out!

We've got piano great Otis Spann this week and a compilation of earlyish Detroit Blues featuring John Lee Hooker, Eddie Kirkland, Eddie Burns and Sylvester Cotton. Following that, on the harmonica we've got a great album by James Harman. Then there's a boatload of blues rock with Foghat, The J. Geils Band and Chris Youlden (formerly of Savoy Brown). After that there's one of my favorite Van Morrison albums, one by piano pounder Marcia Ball and we finish up with a later album by Steeleye Span.

Another week, more great stuff... We've got a compilation of some classic Muddy Waters followed by a compilation of Pee Wee Crayton's better known material. After that there's a somewhat jazzier album from Santana, blues rock from Foghat and Rory Gallagher, country rock from Michael Nesmith and we finish the week off with The Tubes.

Beaucoup de blues this week! Starting off, there's a crazy german album of Muddy Waters Band tunes followed by a mid-60's Jimmy McCracklin album. After that is a comp of early recordings from Junior Parker, James Cotton and Pat Hare (including the Parker tune that Elvis covered). After that there's some rock from A Group Called Smith, The Flamin' Groovies, The Tubes and a 70's band with Peter Rowan in it, Seatrain - the album has their one biggish 70's hit on it, 13 Questions. Some of you guys might remember that one.

This was a productive week for the uploading to youtube thing. There's a bunch of good blues, a half-live, half-studio early 70's album from Taj Mahal, a compilation from Smokey Hogg, and a greatest hits compilation from Lee Dorsey - check out his original version of "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley" it's much better (imo) than later covers. Then there's a buncha blues-rock - a couple of late 60's Steppenwolf albums, a late 70's Roy Buchanan album and a great Little Feat compilation. Finishing up is the kinda new wavey Squeeze for a little diversity.

There's some cool stuff this week. Port Arthur bluesman, Phillip Walker leads off with an album, followed by Taj Mahal playing some fine acoustic blues. After that Doc Watson with Merle and some friends plays a bunch of fine bluegrass. Following that it's back to blues rock with The Flamin' Groovies, Roy Buchanan and Chicken Shack (featuring a fine, underrated guitarist Stan Webb and keyboard player Christine Perfect, later Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie). Some prog-rock follows that with Curved Air and we finish off rockin' with The Radiators.

This week we've got two eras of Chicago blues represented - an album from Muddy Waters starts us off, followed by Washboard Sam with Big Bill Broonzy and Memphis Slim. After that there's Don and Dewey with a compilation of some serious r&b. After that there's Bonnie Raitt's debut album which features Junior Wells on harmonica on about 4 tunes, then it's off to blues rock with Steppenwolf's live album. Finishing up is an album by Weather Report.

This week we've got James Cotton doing some classic Chicago blues from his early days followed by an early Taj Mahal album. Following that is some blues-rock with the J. Geils Band recorded live and a studio album from country blues band Mother Earth (featuring Tracy Nelson). Then it's on to some bluegrass with a really great live album from The White Brothers (also known as the Kentucky Colonels) featuring Clarence White - better known for his work with The Byrds. Rounding out the order this week is some prog-rock with Curved Air.

Well, there's a bunch of good stuff this week. Surprise! Blues harmonica player Junior Parker leads off, followed by Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal album that I posted last week was a double album package and I got around to posting the second album "De Old Folks At Home" this week, it's acoustic guitar and banjo blues for the most part. If you listened to the first album (Giant Step) last week, you can click through the first 9 tunes to get to the new album.

After that there's a bunch of 50's Chicago blues from John Brim and Little Hudson who recorded back then for the JOB label - I'll be loading some more cuts from this album later Saturday evening. Following that is a mid-70's Roy Buchanan album, a David Lindley album, a kind of proggish/avant garde album from Adrian Belew, a decidedly proggy Return To Forever album and we finish up with a late 60's album by Fat Mattress - a kind of folk-rock band formed by the Jimi Hendrix Experience's bass player Noel Redding.

Well, we've got variety this week. Starting off, we've got a double album compilation of Elmore James tunes, a few of which include Arthur Crudup, Bobo Jenkins and John Brim. Then we've got an early 70's Taj Mahal album followed by a whole bunch of blues rock. There's half of a Steppenwolf live album (the other half is a long jam which I have to work out how to split for Youtube), a classic Mountain album and the Blues Magoos. Then there's a compilation of the lesser-known band Love followed by an early album by the band Lindisfarne (the gods of copyright may have blocked a tune or two from this depending upon where Youtube thinks you are), an album by Curved Air and finally a little jazz fusion from Weather Report.
