Friday Night Photos Railroad Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 10/17/2025 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.
Last Sunday I went to the Pacific Southwest Railroad Museum in Campo. Campo is located about 50 miles east of San Diego and 3 miles north of the Mexican border. They have all kinds of old railroad equipment, railcars and engines plus a functioning train you can ride on. The train ride lasted about 40 minutes and was lots of fun. It's the first time I've been on a train since the late 70s. I don't know how old the locomotive was, but the rail cars were built in the 1930s.

Great shots of the old rail line
.
Brings me back to my railroad days working for
Penn Central between Detroit and Chicago. Also
bumming on freights across the country. Some really
bumpy boxcar rides. There was a comradely vibe among
the hobos, sharing food, bottles and stories by a fire
whenever the train would stop in the middle of nowhere.
Life was much simpler then (70's) if I recall correctly?
Zionism is a social disease
No argument. Life was simpler in the 70s
Hobos riding the trains reminded me of the movie Emperor of the North with Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine about depression era train riding hobos (Marvin) and a sadistic railroad employee (Borgnine) trying to prevent them from riding the trains.
My brother was a brakeman for Union Pacific for close to 40 years.

Hi Q
Bumming box car rides to somewhere, enjoying the company of others doing the same, must have been pretty special.
Hi Social
You sure get around! Thank you for taking us with you on a photographic trip through a part of history
I read that the railway was built in 1865.

I wondered from your photo what kind of wood the sleepers were made from, because they still looked quite robust. I read that ...
I also enjoyed the music very much. Joe Ely was new to me, loved the guitars.
Thanks for the link, Janis
My brother worked for Southern Pacific before it merged with Union Pacific in the 90s and stayed with UP until he retired in 2018.
I didn't see any wood in the rail cars at the museum. They were all metal. The only wood I saw were on some old what I believed are called trucks.

Hi All
From the Lookout, on the one day this week the wind was calm.
Enjoy the weekend all
Hi, Janis
Thanks for the beautiful shots of your local NZ geography. One day I hope to be able to visit. Although, not being a big fan of flying I don't know if I'll ever get there.
I'm going to be out of town next week. Would you be able to host FNP next Friday while I'm gone?

Thanks Social
I will be happy to host next Friday's Photography. In two weeks I will also be away. I will be overseas with family for a month, and will be mostly absent here during that time.
Enjoy your travels, and I'm looking forward to reconnecting.
Thank you, Janis
Enjoy your time with your family.

Thank you all for the great visuals.
jb, New Zealand is beautiful. I've been out of the country, but not to Oz and Kiwi-Land. Not much happening in ECFL. We had our annual Gay Pride Rally and Fest along with the No Kings Rally. Good crowds and great weather. All peaceful, no arrests. OPD knows better. They've had loads of much deserved bad press, not to mention quite a few court cases. They've had to shell out big bucks to settle. Hopefully, some of the corruption has been winnowed out. Storm Season is almost over. It's starting to cool down. Hooray!!!!!
Anywho, Rec'd!!
