Album of the Week

Album of the Week 9-20-25

Afternoon folks!

It was a short week for me, and I didn't upload as much as usual, however, there's still some great stuff here. Starting off, there's a great classic Chicago blues album from pianist Otis Spann with a bunch of great sidemen. After that, we've got an album from Chicago harmonica player Big Wheeler and another one from country/blues artist Tracy Nelson (formerly of Mother Earth). Finishing us up is a fine album from Ry Cooder.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got two Chicago blues albums from lesser known Chicago blues guys (that everybody should get to know) there's harmonica player Big Leon Brooks and guitar player and songwriter John Brim. Following that there's an album from blues singer Robert Ealey of Texas. Moving on to the diversity department, we've got a live kinda country rock album from Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Bros and then we have a kind of peculiar but enjoyable album from genre-defying musicians the Bad Livers.

Album of the week 8-30-25

Afternoon folks!

There's some interesting stuff here this week. Starting off, there's a 90's album from Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown followed by an album from Chicago blues guitarist Jimmy Rogers with Johnnie Johnson handling the keyboard duties. After that, we move on to blues rock with Little Feat and a compilation of studio artifacts and demos that cover their career from when Lowell George first left the Frank Zappa band to more recent years - it might mean more to a Little Feat fan than the general public, but it's still interesting stuff. After that we've got an album from a Canadian artist, Colin Linden, that never got his due in the U.S. market. It's a really pleasant album worth a listen. We finish up with an album from former Monkee, Mike Nesmith in his folkie/country period.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Moving on, in the folk-rock-blues vein we have The Band concerts from which the Rock of Ages live album was culled. We finish off in the Bluegrass department with an album from Tony Rice and Peter Rowan.
