Big Lies

Open Thread image.jpg

A big lie (German: große Lüge) is a gross distortion or misrepresentation of the truth, used especially as a propaganda technique. The German expression was coined by Adolf Hitler, when he dictated his book Mein Kampf (1925), to describe the use of a lie so colossal that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously."

The following supposed quotation of Joseph Goebbels has been repeated in numerous books and articles and on thousands of web pages, yet none of them has cited a primary source. According to the research and reasoning of Randall Bytwerk, it is an unlikely thing for Goebbels to have said. None the less it seems a common and effective strategy.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

Album of the Week - 10-8-22

Afternoon folks!

Here's another batch of great stuff for you all. There is a Slim Harpo compilation album and one by The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. There's a mess of blues rock with usual suspects Savoy Brown and Rory Gallagher plus The Pretty Things. To top it off, there's some rockabilly with Robert Gordon and some western swing with Cowboy Jazz.

Enjoy!

War can be fought on multiple fronts other than physical battlefields. Play by play action on a battlefield is easier to follow and keep the population's attention focused on specific players. It blurs the timeframe of conflicts between parties when Politics, Finance, Energy, and Diplomacy are considered as additional fronts to wars.

I don't know where to put this...Life maybe?!

I've had a profound epiphany in the last couple of days; maybe more than one, honestly. I have been reading a parenting book, which I probably should have done long ago, but alas here we are. I did this because the covid pandemic has caused a tremendous strain on me (and I think my family too). Things have been pretty miserable at my house for quite some time and I had to try to make things better for my family.

"Get in, folks. We're building a better America."

I wont embed the tweet posted on October 3 by President Joe Biden. I'm sure most of you have seen it already, but I will highlight the disconnection between reality and political doctrine of this hypocritical statement made by the so called leader of the free world. The tweet contains the image below of the Big Guy in his '67 Corvette with the quote above about building "a better America".
