Swan Song - HRC Sliding in Polls, Losing States and $$$

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSGLTnL-aZE]

The reason that rich people are rich is because they don't send good money after bad.

The reason that HRC is "annoyed" by the Sanders campaign refusal to "tone it down" and to not just butt out of the DNC scheduled coronation is because her polls are slip-slip-slidin' away.

Her Favorability/Unfavorability gap is growing at a negative rate of 1/2 of a percentage point a week now.

and recent (and future) losses and her shrinking lead in polls for the key upcoming states of California and New York are all negatively impacting her fundraising.

Good money doesn't follow bad and her need to continuously leave the campaign trail to sit down with millionaires for their money and $30K plate dinners shows that she is losing the lifeblood that she needs to be competitive in a California primary.

After she loses New York it will be all over. Done.

This is why the knives are coming out, this is why she must go on the attack. This is what happens when you try to run business as usual oligopoly politics against the people and a campaign that is successfully forwarding a real political revolution.

oh, did I mention the F-Fucking-B.I?????

who in their right mind is going to give money to her now???

Hillary’s world collapsing around her: Wisconsin, Bernie’s surge and FBI probe poised to derail her White House bid
Clinton isn’t only facing a possible indictment, but also Sanders & millions of voters sick of status quo politics

Yes, the “undisputed fundraising machine” has raised “more money than any candidate in either party.” With all of Clinton’s Wall Street ties and prison lobbyist donors, Bernie Sanders soundly defeats the former Secretary of State and other Republicans in terms of fundraising.

Bernie’s Wisconsin victory will no doubt add even more money to the Sanders campaign. Like the inability of pundits to predict his ascent in national polls, and the Vermont Senator’s current political momentum, establishment critics never predicted the cascade of money flowing to Bernie Sanders. An article in The Washington Post titled “Bernie Sanders outraises Hillary Clinton for third consecutive month” highlights what poll numbers can’t tell you:

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’s fundraising juggernaut outraised Hillary Clinton’s campaign in March, surpassing her for the third consecutive month.

Clinton announced on Monday that her campaign had raised $29.5 million for the month compared with the $44 million raised by the Sanders campaign. Sanders’s March fundraising haul surpasses the campaign’s own record-setting $43.3 million raised in February.

and

http://thehill.com/policy/national-security/274840-report-clinton-could-...

Earlier in the week, the Los Angeles Times reported that the FBI was in the process of arranging interviews with former State Department officials, possibly including Clinton herself.

Consider the collapse of the Clinton Campaign payback for the thousands of murdered children in Honduras, ok? Just to be totally honest and fair. . .

Who can have the 30000 ft view? We can only hope.

The fact is that there is a great loss of respect for objectivity. The paranoid tendencies among us will tend to seek patterns. So its why I like Steven D's comment. Salon can exercise their fantasies, TOP can hew to those of a Clintonian post-purge bent, but lying used to be cause for a duel in early America. Just saying we used to place that - "honor" - highly, probably because it was a matter of life or death for many.

So is Salon indulging and enticing us in fantasies of Clinton falling apart in a dramatic end-game? Is Bernie really as far behind as the AP, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and the others claim he is?

We all have our opinions, but we can't have that 30 kft level, mostly because we find ourselves in isolated bubbles. Just like there are wayy too many types of Barbasol shaving cream, the information stream failure rate is at a Nate-Silver-confounding level (the data reveals this in fact), and will remain so until Hillary is gone. That is what I believe.

If I may, I would like to respond to your post with a criticism.

I think I understand what you mean. I would like to provide you with my understanding of the word ideology and how this relates to an analysis of political discourse.

I believe that the problem is precisely that sources of information are NOT ideological, or intend to ignore ideology, treating ideology as something immoral, unethical, the word being a sophisticated version of "liar."

That it is associated with the great boogeyman of conservatives and liberals alike, communism, makes the word much harder to handle.

What makes us react against those who wish to foist their opinion upon us is precisely that they are pretending, ignoring, or simply do not understand that they have an ideology which they do not question and demand that we do not question it too.

The great benefit for us though is that they do not understand what their own ideology is, because they ignore it or claim it does not exist. And that knowledge is power.

What we call typically "ideology" is more "agendum," a goal to which the rhetoric of speech attempts to sway us. I think it is the agendum of the communication to which most of us react. We do not often think deeper about the ideological framework in which that agendum is proposed, choosing instead to reject the entire communication, the communicator, and everything else that surrounds it.

I say that in doing so, we deprive ourselves of an important acquisition which can help us better understand the world, and even persuade others.

Ideology is far, far more complex than an agendum. Ideology is to a rhetorical goal or agendum what the mathematics of Calabi-Yau manifolds is to grade-school algebra. Ideology proposes an entire ontological, epistemological, sociological, psychological, economic, and linguistic framework to understand whither all these agenda come which bombard us. It allows a systematic, even if flawed, approach to understanding a wide range of phenomena with a single, consistent (we hope!) set of rules.

Ideology can be a powerful tool to analyze the human reality behind political communication. However, it requires a lot of careful observation, thought, and reading. It is hard, it is time-consuming, and it seems pointless when everyone else is going about their fun lives. And yes, it can seem artificial and contrived at times.

Despite this, doing ideology can be a creative, introspective, and liberating process.

My thesis, reprinted often, is that one must have an ideology in order to propose real solutions beyond "elect this person and raise money for so-and-so." When we act, we want to act according to what we understand to be the good, and that good is not only for ourselves, but for others, right? So my point is, why would I act without clearly understanding what that good is, what my own assumptions about the good are, about social relations, about what I am expected to consume, purchase, build, create, and in what structures I am expected to participate in a political society. All of these things are tied to ideology.

Here is a link which I have posted elsewhere to a popular presentation of ideology:

Wow, thanks for that.

To examine my thoughts and clarify them, I am reminded of what prompted my post: I was recently on Twitter and I somehow stumbled into a filter that contained loyal Democrats (I assume) who happened to support HRC in her contentious fight against Sanders.

Wow, it was pretty caustic for a Bernie fan! They were all making up things about him and getting really mad about it! They seemed to synergize their mutual anger and yes, hatred. And I'm like "Wow, these things about Bernie aren't even true, and yet it is fomenting all this hatred!"

I blamed ideological thinking - the bad kind - that we have witnessed from the GOP for so long. I had wanted to believe that good Democrats wouldn't want to engage in that sort of groupthink, but I was seeing it. And then I wondered if I was capable of exhibiting that sort of self-delusion myself, and concluded that if I was, I might not notice it, but an outsider might perceive it clearly. Of course, they may have their own biases, just as I did when I saw the "Bernie bad" remarks in the HRC loyalist thread.

your source complaint disregards the fact that she has raised significantly less money than Sanders over the last 3 months, that instead of growing in contributions she is actually declining over the last 2 months and that there is an FBI criminal investigation going on into her use of a private server/blackberry and classified info.

All of this is simple facts. The loss of momentum, the collapse of the polls her increasing unfavorability, what are her supporters going to do when her unfavorability tops 60%????

Bernie is now even with Hillary in national polls (which is a great achievement for him). Both candidates have a path to the nomination. I'm supporting Bernie. He's got my vote and my money.

However, it makes no sense to declare that Hillary’s "world" is "collapsing." The FBI is not conducting a criminal investigation, the DOJ won't indict her, and we won’t even be told about the results of the inquiry until after the Democratic convention in July.

It's great that Bernie is beating Hillary at fundraising, especially because this is a people-powered campaign. But Hillary gets a lot of Dem votes purely on name recognition. Yes, she is the least honest and trustworthy candidate (in either major party). It hasn't stopped people from voting for her. She has an advantage in closed primaries like NY, where only registered Democrats can vote and it's already past the registration deadline.

Hillary is 12 points ahead now in NY, let's hope Bernie can use his momentum to even it out or get an advantage by April 19. Let's say he does that. It won't narrow the gap in pledged delegates by very much.

And why are you so interested in people believing this?

If there is a criminal investigation, they will only get one shot at it. They can't just drag HRC into the police department whenever they feel like it, she is well armoured. So those involved with such an investigation are unlikely to advertise it and they are very much likely to ensure they have all their ducks in a row, and an extra row or two of ducks behind those, what with their careers being at stake if they mess up.

dated January 2016. While she may not have intentionally injured the US, she did take her server out of her house and its supposedly secure area to a private company which did NOT have any clearance and allowed them to migrate data from it to a new server. AND allowed the thing to sit there for a while too, and God only knows who had access to it then. IF that isn't a breach, I don't know what in hell is. But you're probably right - some low level puke will go down for that, and she'll skate away merely because we cannot prove "intent" to harm. If you or I were to do that? I'm sorry, but we'd be indicted for damned sure.

Maybe in a court of law this simply doesn't matter - hell, half the dirty shit they all do is now fully legal. And apparently as long as it's legal, its all good. And we can't prove anyone WAS actually hurt by her stupid and arrogant actions, so nothing to see here folks.... But if you are some low level whistleblower who reveals classified? There is no criminal case, unless facts emerge that we don't have access to at this point. I think Bernie was very smart not to make a big deal out of Hillary's e-mails. Her decision not to use a government e-mail account was wrong, I think everyone can agree. But it wasn't a crime and did not violate any rules either.

It's important to stay reality-based even in the heat of a partisan political campaign.

Top secret information must be maintained in a positive control environment at all times. If top secret information is found to be in an uncontrolled environment, meaning those locations that are not government authorized for information with that level of classification, then a law has been broken.

That is why this is a criminal investigation, and has been considered so by every major media news outlet since early January. Especially since a Clinton staffer was grated CRIMINAL immunity to secure testimony.

on that server could signal a possible crime. Once she used a private unsecured server for ALL her State Department correspondence, then everything on that server should have been preserved. Over one half of all emails on that server were erased. It was not up to Hillary Clinton or her staff or her lawyers to determine what was relevant.

There is so much wrong here that even if she skates, it shows poor judgment at the very least or an effort to avoid public scrutiny at the worst. I know that as a public employee, everything I did was subject to a FOIA request. IMO, some very bad stuff (maybe related to the Clinton Foundation) was probably among the deleted emails.

You're assuming the outcome of the investigation, which is not the best thing to do. Personally, I don't think it's going to be classification that trips Clinton up, but either she'll be caught having destroyed emails improperly (apparently the FBI was able to recover the 30,000 or so emails she erased) or the review will reveal details of significant conflicts of interest.

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Your question, "has the giant stirred", sure causes flashbacks among many of us in Wisconsin. It was said many times during the rallies against Walker's anti-union measure that Act 10 had "awakened the sleeping giant".

I've posted this vid before, but it seems appropriate in this thread too. It is a mash-up of clips from the Wisconsin Uprising, that in my opinion was derailed by the Dem party which was terrified of movement-building from the ground up, and derailed the movement by insisting on a high-stakes single election (the recall) in lieu of also continuing the protests and public pressure against Walker and the Rep legislature.

Did we need a recall? Absolutely. But we needed to keep up the occupation of the capitol, and continue bringing suit against Walker's Capitol Police. (You will see in the vid that the City of Madison police felt they needed to "protect and defend the citizens against Walker" and his goon squad! There's footage of the night they brought sleeping bags and stayed overnight in the capitol with the protesters to prevent the Capitol Police from clearing the building!)

People were getting tapped out financially but Debbie W-S refused to give financial support to the recall, and the lame Democratic Party of Wisconsin was afraid the Teamsters and other unions who showed up to protest were too edgy...

Hope people have time to watch. There will be some faces you may know in the footage, like Madison Mayor Paul Soglin marching with city workers against Walker, but what makes me most inspired is that the protests were started by teenages who walked out of ther East High School classes and swarmed downtown, quickly joined that aftrnoon by TAs from the university. Within days, there were 10s of thousands and over 100,000 a day within two weeks.

We are going to be having to do this soon inDC. Sure would be great if we have a president in the White House who will come out and march with us!

The short answer I came up with is that it won't hurt Sanders any--the more time he has to reach out, the better he tends to do. But I can't decide yet if Hillary's campaign is coordinated enough to command a smear campaign narrative for that long without pissing off the wrong people. If they can't, that extra week hurts her.

I also wondered if a story to watch is the one about all the pissed-off New Yorkers who are already finding out they've been screwed out of voting already. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/04/06/1511308/-Why-is-538-wrong-so-of...

Two things stick out:

  1. There are a lot of bold cells (11 of 23 states), and fewer underlined cells (4 of 23 states).
  2. All the underlined cells are in the South (Appalachia is a wash)

Hillary outperforms 538 poll averages and forecasts in the South. Bernie outperforms everywhere else (or is within MoE).

In all, 15 out of 23 states fall outside the MoE for one or both forecasts. That’s 65%. Also note the polls plus model does seem to add some value, they are less frequently outside of our 3% MoE.

So what does this mean? Here are some reasonable guesses:

Bernie gains support as we approach the primary/caucus, since polls are always a few days old they under-represent his support

  • The likely voter models are wrong and Bernie is bringing in more primary voters who pollsters aren’t reaching.
  • Name recognition influences poll-respondents more than it does voters.
  • There are fewer primary polls, far less data, small changes in turnout can swing the result.

investigation must in a way seem like a recurring nightmare.

During Bill's presidency the vast-right wing conspiracy (which really did exist, though Hillary was pilloried for speaking the simple truth that time) started with Whitewater, which was pretty much nothing, and some allegations of sexual misconduct, National Enquirer material including flat lies, and worked this assiduously until they maneuvered Bill into what was colorably a lie and then impeached him on it.

Now the successors of the same people started with Benghazi, which was a total crock, and have worked the material assiduously until they uncovered some tangential things that, while still under investigation, and may not be criminal, have an ugly look: possible security breach, dubious judgement, co-mingling of government and private business, and/or trying to wire around FOIA. Whether or not these issues are criminal at all, they are a liability, and the Republicans are unlikely ever to let go of them.

And in both cases, Hillary's and Bill's, I'd bet that to the extent that there was any real misconduct, "everybody [in the political upper class] was doing it."

Bill in the end brazened it out and remained in office.

Hillary may be calculating that she ought to be able to do likewise and still win. But I would not be surprised if by now, party insiders are looking around, as rumored, possibly at Biden.

And I know more than a few fifty- and sixty-somethings that have even less to lose, because these crooked fuckers already took so much away from us. Like me, ferinstance.

Don't poke the bear, boys and girls--he gets pissy when you do that Wink

If anyone has an hour and 16 minutes to spare, you can get a real education on the tip of the iceberg that the Rs have waiting for HRC regarding the emails and server. I must say even with all the reading I have done on this, there were a couple of things that I did not know.

Warning, most of this is Fox News and Republicans: Hillary Clinton voters must watch this

However, it has some very interesting arguments that will be quite damaging.

Please, please if you know anyone in NY, do whatever is necessary and possible to get them out to vote!
