Spoonful of Sugar---Understanding Israel Right Now

LATEST UPDATE RW FOLDS. Jerusalem Maarch canceled.

Naftali Bennet is poised to replace Benjamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister this week.

Naftali Bennet is as Right Wing as Bibi, maybe worse. True or False? True.

So, WTF is happening? How can there be a meaningful change?

Bennet is the spoonful of sugar that will usher Israel out of the darkness into light.

Bennet controls only a small spoonful of the coalition that now has 68 members. Bennet has only 7 seats.

The Arab Parties hold 10 seats.

Labor and Meretz, the most Left Wing parties hold 13 seats.

Blue and White, current Defense Minister Gantz's party, has 8 seats.

Yair Lapid, most secular and Liberal holds 17 seats. Yisrael Beiteinu, RW party has 7 seats.

61 seats in Knesset when they vote this week does it. Bennet and his coalition have 68 seats. Seats to spare. Bibi & the Rabbis hold only 52 seats.

The deal in place is that in 2 years Yair Lapid will take over the Prime Minister's post. That may or may not happen. Bibi promised Gantz that same deal and renounced. That is one reason Bibi is toast.

Bibi, OTOH, has only violent insurrection to use in a desperate attempt to change his fate.

Stay tuned.

...but I can't find the link. Did find this...

“Fraud of the century,” he declared indignantly after fellow right-winger Naftali Bennett turned against him on Sunday and opted to align with centrist opposition chief Yair Lapid despite a public promise that he would not do so.

Under a power-sharing deal that follows a March 23 election - Israel’s fourth in two years - Bennett, a former defense minister and a high-tech millionaire, will become prime minister.

He will later turn over the post to Lapid, who once served as finance minister in a Netanyahu-led government.

The diverse composition of the Lapid-Bennett alliance could make it particularly unstable in a country so riven by political divisions that “do-over” elections have become the norm.

That means that no one in Israel is ruling out a Netanyahu political comeback.

If the courts really worked he would be in jail.
And if International law was recognized he would be in the Hague for crimes against humanity (As would Bushy 2, Obomber, etc).

@Outsourcing Is Treason @Outsourcing Is Treason @Outsourcing Is Treason @Outsourcing Is Treason @Lookout Yes. The path here will be fraught with threats. The main idea seems to be that because of so many parties from the total arc of the spectrum, the coalition cannot hold.

Let's look at the numbers in a slightly different way.

Arab Parties: Ra'am 4 seats and Joint List 6 seats. Total 10 seats in the Knesset.

Left Parties: Labor 7 seats and Meretz 6 seats in the Knesset Total 13 seats

Center Left : Yesh Atid 7 seats and New Hope 6 seats Blue and White 8 seats Total 21 seats

Right parties are Yamina 7 seats and Israel Beiteinu 7 seats Total 14 seats

That is a widely dispersed 68 seats when only 61 seats makes the majority.

My view is that a coalition with such a wide base stands on firmer ground than Israel has seen before (Bibi and the Rabbis, 52 seats) and that it bodes well for a lasting improvement.

@NYCVG "the right betrayed him" will work to foment chaos---including a planned march of Orthodox Jewish protesters thru the streets of an Arab neighborhood coming to Jerusalem on Thursday.

Let's see how that is handled.

There is a Future.

Yair Lapid---secular centrist/liberal founded this party in 2012. Lapid's former gig was as TV Show host.

In 2023, Lapid will be Prime Minister of Israel.

Inshallah. If god wills it.
