OT ~ Welcome to Saturday!

sweet water
in cool touches

A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy? ~ Albert Einstein

Good morning good people,

"It sounds like something from Carlos Ruiz Zafón’s The Shadow of the Wind and his The Cemetery of Forgotten Books: a huge volume containing thousands of summaries of books from 500 years ago, many of which no longer exist. But the real deal has been found in Copenhagen, where it has lain untouched for more than 350 years.

"The Libro de los Epítomes manuscript, which is more than a foot thick, contains more than 2,000 pages and summaries from the library of Hernando Colón, the illegitimate son of
Christopher Columbus who made it his life’s work to create the biggest library the world had ever known in the early part of the 16th century. Running to around 15,000 volumes, the library was put together during Colón’s extensive travels. Today, only around a quarter of the books in the collection survive and have been housed in Seville Cathedral since 1552.

"The discovery in the Arnamagnæan Collection in Copenhagen is “extraordinary”, and a window into a “lost world of 16th-century books”, said Cambridge academic Dr Edward Wilson-Lee, author of the recent biography of Colón, The Catalogue of Shipwrecked Books.

“It’s a discovery of immense importance, not only because it contains so much information about how people read 500 years ago, but also, because it contains summaries of books that no longer exist, lost in every other form than these summaries,” said Wilson-Lee. “The idea that this object which was so central to this extraordinary early 16th-century project and which one always thought of with this great sense of loss, of what could have been if this had been preserved, for it then to just show up in Copenhagen perfectly preserved, at least 350 years after its last mention in Spain …” https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/apr/10/extraordinary-500-year-old...

"To the relief of cinephiles still suffering from withdrawal after FilmStruck’s untimely demise last fall, the Criterion Channel launched today, meaning the majority of the Criterion Collection’s catalogue of classic art-house cinema (over 1,000 films) is now available for streaming. So, where should you start? In the interests of relative brevity, we chose one masterpiece each from 50 illustrious directors. And then, to encourage completists, we listed all the other films by each director that are also on the channel. Consider these as starting points, cinematic gateway drugs to the work of the most important filmmakers of all time. You could get lost for days." https://www.vulture.com/article/criterion-channel-best-movies-streaming....

The ultimate smiley face:

After a long night swimming
In the dry dark of a book
I heard outside my window
A sound that changed my window.

Each of the planets unseen sang
As though in the grooves
Of a record I loved.
Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mars,

A scratch where the Earth
Where the Earth should be
Where the Earth should be
And is.

I stared out into the darkness
For some sign of the cold consoler,
That perched spinning
Night nurse who tends

To the sleeping sun
Destined to rise irresponsibly
Over the counties
Of Kings and Queens.

What are we during these
Archaic moments
Of mind-made Shangri-la
But bees trapped in amber,

Storyless and beheld,
By the amber god
Who makes it so
And the living god

Who undoes it?

~ Rowan Ricardo Phillips

because I want and need the practice today.

I plan on not concentrating on what the MSM wants me to. Hell with their emotional poison which tends to toxify everything! Instead I'm going to spend my day looking for materials to continue my journey. Mental, physical and spiritual. All are needed in order to properly grow as a human, IMHO.

I find it interesting that those who are most interested in directing the course of human events are also interested in humanity not growing. They starve us of all of the materials, and yet still expect fruit from our efforts. (Yes, that was totally a Chauncey Gardener, but fuck it, it makes the point.)

Glad to be a weed to TPTB these days. I ain't pretty, I ain't what they want, and I don't fit into their plans. Hopefully they remain content to ignore me right back.

the garden and yard need mucho attention and yet here I sit, in part because I can. I am reminded of some early cybernetic experiments and models mashed up with the calculus of infinite series. If ones attention shifts back and forth between too many targets will it set up an oscillation? And if the oscillation speeds up enough will its period decrease to the point where it is indistinguishable from stasis? Does it matter? Do I give a shit?

Enough of that, however, because tempus is fugiting and it is time to carpe some diem. Thanks for the OT, the music will have to follow me around as I wander from activity to activity, now that coffee is done.

Have a great one.

Nice music and poetry. Today is a do nothing day for me. I have been overdoing it for the past couple of weeks and my bod is saying "stop!"

So pausing and listening to your music. I will go and read "Hot Air" finally. Did a bit of cooking and cleaning this AM but no more. It is a rainy day today. Maybe I will check out the cinema site. Sounds cool. Thanks again!

I-m so happy

Sounds good, putting the feet up and chilling. Once i identify a movie to watch, i search for it on free sites; youtube has a lot.

And popcorn is good for one, as well. Thanks for being here and have a relaxing one.

It is misty here. A really small trade day, but ran my in-town errands.

A buddy gave me a few dozen daffodils and I'm going to try to dibble them in before the big rain tonight.

Had a good session last night with guest pickers. Always fun to add new material. We did several Bob Wills pieces. I enjoyed this one..

Must be the same storm coming from the west. Rain begins late afternoon followed by two days of cold.

Debating on whether to attempt a small garden at a friend's place. They offered a spot, but it's way out near Tenn, way past Mabel. A long drive and gas money ... don't know if i've the energy either; anyways got a few weeks to decide.

Thanks for the good music and have a great day and weekend.

What a marvelous find. Interesting to imagine what people were reading in those days.

“The important part of Hernando’s library is it’s not just Plato and Cortez, he’s summarising everything from almanacs to news pamphlets. This is really giving us a window into the entirety of early print, much of which has gone missing, and how people read it – a world that is largely lost to us,”

I sure hope that in another 500 years what the scholars of the future find left over from what we read won't be a library of books like "At the Duke's Pleasure" and "The Devil who Tamed Her".

Thanks for a thoughtful OT. Hope everyone has a beautiful Saturday. I'm off to the library, but not, alas, to lose myself in books. It'll be tax day for me and I'm going to pick up the forms. Ugh.

Would love to read those summaries someday. Watching American Masters new documentary about Pulitzer and enjoying.

Ugh, leaving taxes until tomorrow.

Have a good evening.

an hour break from taxes, so, wanted to swing by and wish Everyone a nice weekend. Hope you Guys haven't procrastinated (as I have) regarding filing your taxes. It is such an odious chore. If only I could discipline myself to do them early, and get it over with! Dash 1

Looking forward to listening to Adagietto--always tune into one of XM's classical music channels while I'm figuring taxes. Keeps my 'agitation-level' down--a little.

After a week of absolutely beautiful weather, going have a couple days of showers. By hey, it is April, after all. And, at least, it's still relatively cool.

Have a good one!

What an inspirational collection of sentiment and art. The thoughts, the poetry, the artistic interpretation ... I have never seen the ‘bicycle thief’ or read a poem by Rowan Ricardo Phillips, but I will look forward to both now. Thank you.
