I got back from one of my not so uncommon hiatuses and C99 was a hopping. It was good to see the other virtual drifters, hobos and nerr do wells hopping onto the C99 train. I am the diarist formerly known as NCTim and I shall be your sporadic host this fine day.
For the uninitiated, I work pretty hard to keep my diaries content free. I like to let loose a stream of consciousness that is easier to follow if you are demented or inebriated.
Over at the GOS, I spewed out about six month's worth of daily music diaries. Friday was known as Funk Friday, so the funk could break out at any time, hit play and scroll on down.
What can the blind man see? The devolution of our society into oligarchy? The golden rule, those with gold rule, being played out? HRC is a sell out? Markos is a sell out? The press is part of the problem? Heavy duty foil makes better hats?
The latest influx of GOS refugees brought along a palpable shift in the force. It is energizing, like a million voices crying out. People are ready to throw down.
Awhile back, I had hypothesized that the early C99 adopters were flight, not fight types. Upon reflection, the hypothesis quickly crumbled. Joe had some epic GOS scrums. Big Al got tossed for calling out Israeli war mongering. Mimi was followed into Evening Blues by an administrator for telling somebody to take a long walk off a short pier. Pluto got tossed and I still don't understand why. JayRaye's incredible series goes thoroughly unappreciated. For the longest time, I thought JayRaye was on the GOS staff. I was giving GOS credit for having JayeRaye publish her series and GOS was gaining credibility with me. I feel so used.
A little C99 background for our newest comrades. C99 is an exceptional cannabis strain with the high and the taste of an exceptional sweet landrace sativa. C99 is a descendant of Northern Lights, Skunk #1 and Cinderella99. But, I digress. I found my way here by following my virtual comrades out of The Evening Blues juke joint. I saw them all leaving and figured it was C99 time.
About that scrum over @GOS. GOS got big enough that Markos went corporate. The KOS declaring HRC "The Chosen One", insistence upon fealty and the naked agenda are all symptoms of a sell out. If it was really about getting mobetta Democrats, GOS would embrace Bernie and facilitate a civil debate.
GOS is infected with cliques, name callers and deflectors. The management has set the agenda and allowed the sectarian violence to besiege the site. The only way to win the game is not to play.
That's wah I'm sayin'.
Why in the world would Markos allow GOS to devolve into its current state?
Daily Kos: CIA Engineered Controlled Opposition?
Is it possible Markos Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga, leader of the “Kossaks,” that is to say followers and fawners of the Daily Kos, is a CIA operative? Francis Holland, posting on the My Left Wing messageboard, details Moulitsas’ relationship with the CIA:
“Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, owner of the DailyKos website, now admits that he spent six months in the employ of the US Central Intelligence Agency in 2001,” writes Holland. “In a one-hour interview on June 2, 2006 at the Commonwealth Club, Moulitsas, also known as ‘Kos,’ admitted that he was a CIA employee and would have ‘no problem working for them’ in the present.”
{UPDATED} Markos Moulitsas Zuniga is a Right Wing, CIA Loving Tool
No lefty would have ever supported the CIA. Proof of Kos doing so is now well-known, as he had a brain cramp in an interview with the Commonwealth Club in 2006. It is without a doubt that he called the CIA a liberal institution he'd have no problem working for. Maybe he already did? According to his own words, he went through a six month interview process starting in 2001. He said that he went all the way to the end and had to decide whether to become a clandestine spy or work for Howard Dean. We know what he decided on. Funny thing though about the timeline according to his own words. How does a six month process starting in 2001 end in the middle of 2003? Daily Kos was started in 2002. Did Kos run this blog while he was working for the CIA? He needs to explain this, or otherwise it is fairly clear what the answer is. At a minimum, he is no lefty. He is into making money. He was the worst thing that ever could have happened to progressives on the net

Now, about the Fourth Estate. Just sayin'.
Fourth Estate or Mouthpiece?
A Formal Model of Media, Protest and Government Repression
New media dramatically increases citizens’ access to information and decreases governments’ ability
to control the flow of communication. Although human rights NGOs have advocated that access to
independent news media will improve government respect for human rights, recent empirical studies
have shown this is not always the case. We posit that media independence and the presence or
absence of democratic characteristics, in particular political competition, have substantial effects on
government repression because these factors determine the degree to which the government is
vulnerable to public pressures. The model developed here includes three equations that encompass
the impact of interaction between and among the news media, citizens and government. The first
equation specifies the influences on the news media’s decision whether to perform a ‘watchdog’ role
regarding government repression. The second equation represents public reaction to the news
media’s coverage of government repression, i.e., protest. Here access to news media via traditional
and new media is an important factor. The third equation represents government repression.
Solutions to the system of equations are derived for four scenarios: 1. democracy and media
independence are both present, 2. democracy is present but media independence is absent, 3.
democracy is absent (autocracy) and media independence is present, and 4. democracy is absent
(autocracy) and media independence is absent. We then consider interesting properties of the
anticipated behavior from the government, media and general public through case illustrations for
the Netherlands and Myanmar/Burma.
When you’re in a Fourth Estate situation
As things stand today, the Fourth Estate is a state of mind. Some in the press have it, some do not. Some who have it are part of the institutional press. Some, like Ladar Levison and Edward Snowden, are not.
“I think if the American public knew what our government was doing, they wouldn’t be allowed to do it anymore.”
Those are the poignant words of Ladar Levison, founder of Lavabit, a secure email service that he voluntarily shut down when faced with some sort of demand from the U.S. government to reveal user information. The precise nature of that demand he cannot talk about for fear of being thrown in jail, perhaps the best example we now have for how the surveillance state undoes the First Amendment. But we know that Lavabit was used by Edward Snowden to communicate with the outside world when he was stuck in the Moscow airport. So use your imagination! #
If the public knew what the government was doing, the government wouldn’t be allowed to do it anymore… is a perfect description of a “Fourth Estate situation.” That’s when we need a journalist to put hidden facts to light and bring public opinion into play, which then changes the equation for people in power operating behind the veil. If it doesn’t happen, an illegitimate state action will persist. “My hope is that, you know, the media can uncover what’s going on, without my assistance,” Levison said. He’s like a whistleblower who will go to jail if he actually uses his whistle. All he can do is give truncated interviews that stop short of describing the pressure he is under.
So who the funk wants HRC being "The Chosen One"? Just sayin'.

Waving hello at all you fine folks, many familiar faces, and some new ones I'm happy to make acquaintance with.
It's good to be here, good to be alive, and good to be a leftist sumbich. Not necessarily in that order.
Lots of fine music to be found here, and some very good vibes, as well. Hopefully, this is OK, (just butting in and saying 'hey') and now that I have, I'll shut up, get cozy, and listen for a bit, get the groove and not step on anyone's toes or harsh anyone's day.
Just wanted to say I appreciate the tunes and the folks here, and now, the promised 'listening'....

On Twitter had an old school Democrat trying to convince me of the standard "3rd Party Is Throwing Your Vote Away" crap. Course when I replied that I don't vote out of fear, It quickly devolved into him calling me stupid and delusional.

And as far as cannabis goes, I prefer Blueberry Indica and its variants. Blue Cheese, Blue Diesel, etc. Works a bit better for my anxiety/PTSD and helps me focus on the day to day needs. I don't really LIKE to get high, but I enjoy the relaxation and relief.

Man o man am I swamped! We've gotten about 40 new members the last couple of days, check out the memberlist to see what I mean. Between vetting all the new registrations to keep out spammers and coordinating smiley7's fundraiser, well, I is busy.
Speaking of smiley7's fundraiser, Colorado is the Shiznit will be posting a Community Fundraisers diary this afternoon on his behalf sometime between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 PM EST. Please folks, visit her diary and tip and rec so we can get it on the rec list, and donate to smiley's cause if you can. I'll put up an essay later pointing to her diary.
Have a good day, folks! Now back to work for me.

The scale and order of magnitude of activity is about to take a step change. I hope Jesus did a good job with the fixes.
I worked on a project where the customer had upgraded their routers, making the network traffic faster. Then various machine tools started malfunctioning. The root cause turned out to be a mutual exclusion problem within a VM. The VM was not setting a hardware reserved bit and the increased rate of network activity vastly increased the possibility of two processors accessing the same hardware simultaneously.

ISIS has a lot in common with Wall Street
not surprising
Maybe I should explain this. ISIS is basically using a combination of "currency arbitrage" (legal) and money laundering (illegal).
Both of these things are the domain of Wall Street banks. Thus they are trying to muscle in on their business.

I'm real happy to find you all. I was feather fall on DK, but I left late 2015 because I could not stand the corporatists and Kos rigging the site for the Clintonistas. I hope I could find the community here that I was looking for there. I still read Liepar's BNR every day, but skip the rest. I was a BNR reader from Day 1; what a trooper LD is. Amazon removes encryption
boycott Amazon products
I already do
boycott Amazon. We've only bought one product a internet radio from them about 5 years ago. They are bad news on many levels, like Wal Mart which I have never set foot in. They treat their workers shamelessly. I bought my computer from New Egg as I could not find a windows7 Acer at any retail outlet. I can't afford Apple products but if I could I'd buy a MacBook in a heartbeat. I buy books at local retail book stores, Powell's Books, being right down the street. I try to spend my money locally at independent small business when ever possible.
so I'm gonna have to find another way...
to order Ian and the Zodiacs. I've tried at the local record shops. There's a release from about 2008 that the locals can't get. Out if print but available at Amazon.
oh...that wasn't so hard! Google, click shopping, up pops four alternatives.

Funk me, you did ... What's up with the tags - "Hello Mimi"?
This OT scares the hell out of me. NCTim, don't do this to my brain, please. It kills me and makes a monster out of me.
Ok, I will read it again, slowly, slowly, and all this on top of this recurrent thought I had this morning, while not getting up.
Why the heck is it not allowed to erase our comments completely? Vanish from any earthly server around the globe, nada remaining. Even not the super-duper highest intelligent intelligence folks coding us to hell with their shit. What I said yesterday, ain't none of anybody's business, and certainly not the whole world population's business. Whoever invented the world wide web and all the crap code that made blogging, facebook and twitter possible, without giving every citizen of the world the tool and right to erase everything they ever uttered in this idiotic cyberspace, deserves to rot in hell.
See, if we actually could erase ourselves from cyberspace and nobody would ever know what we ever thought and said and did and where and why and all the fuck, then those super-duper intelligence NSA, CIA, FBI officers would start to have an anxiety attack and pee in their pants. Yes, like so many people start peeing in their pants, because look what a Mr. Trump unleashed in our peaceful world. Geesh.
If you can organize online to fight the "authorities", the "authorities" have to be able to fight you, ie. no, they never, ever will allow you to erase yourself from cyberspace. How could they know that you are not an evil-doing terrorist and want to blow up the world? They need the technology to be the way it is right now. Because they can't control their own inventions as it represents itself on the intertubes. TOTAL SURVEILLAMCE, TOTAL CONTROL, ZERO PRIVACY, ZERO DIGNITY.
No way your uttered words and images on the intertube will ever die. Those monster words and pictures will follow you to your death and then they follow your children and grand children. And all those sins of yours and your fathers and mothers and grand fathers and grandmothers and all your anchestors, and all their victimization, will follow you and you will never get relief. Suffer, that's the law, because I almighty say so.
Ah, that's God's revenge for your dumbass brainiacs, who thought they had invented the ultimate tool to ... liberate the masses from slavery and give you equality, democracy and all the pursuits of happiness you ever dreamed of. Darn right. So, the only question remains. "Are you happy now?" ok, fuck that funky question, right? / end of this shit rant. (oh, and Markos worked for six month for the CIA as a spy? I can hear him chuckling, saying, gotcha, babies).
So, you funky superheros, read Meteor Blades diary about "voting for Trump". I am glad he wrote that. Fully approve that diary and he scolds everybody for imo the right reasons... I am looking at a couple of you, kiddos.
If you're thinking of voting for Trump because you can't stand Clinton you aren't thinking very hard That reminds my of my German language teacher at my German middle school, when I was around 12 years old. When everybody in the class was silent, nobody knew the answer to his questions and were scared about it, he used to say: "Yeah, folks, thinking is very hard, it might just burn your brains into smoke. I can see it coming out of your heads".
Ok, I think I am calling 911 and the firetrucks to the rescue.
Have a nice funky day, all. Tomorrow is another one. Thank God. Oh, and a St. Pauli Girl beer for JtC and a bottle of champaign opened up warm and all directed at NCTim... Prost !

authoritarian, same as anti-union
"I'm the boss and what I say, goes!"
and of course they're lapping it up.
I had a boss at this one place who came down to Portland (from Seattle where the other office was) and in the very first meeting I attended this dude said "I don't want to fire everyone but if I have to, I will". Man, that was good for morale! I lasted six months, then split.
But those people over there think this is a great idea even though the logic is bad. They're jumping all over it which figures. That's why they like Hillary. Issues are not important. Shaharazade told me that when she worked for Obama in 2008 they told her "don't talk issues, just tell people your story". Now that's become a model for campaigns.
Here's my favorite from the last couple of days..this was on Facebook and I'm paraphrasing because I can't find it.
"Why don't people trust Hillary?" that was asked by someone who likes Hillary, by the way. She went on to say "This article nails it" and the linked article ignored the real reasons and substituted "sexism". One guy responded by saying "People don't trust her because she has a propensity for lying". Another person, a Hillary lover, replied "All politicians lie. It wouldn't be an issue if she were a man."
Yikes.
But don't rebut that sort of thinking starting March 16th.
Actually I think we'll probably see a revolt, with lots of anti-Hillary diaries posted that day.

Well, why not promoting the idea that Third Parties are "verboten"? If one isn't allowed to vote for them, and the vote doesn't count anything, why not just get rid of Third Parties?
Oh well, that blows my mind away. So happy that I ousted myself there deliberately. Don't want to be associated with such a "huffing, puffing and stomping his feet" kind of overlord. He must have lost it.
I really didn't read the diary to the end. No matter what other, may be reasonable things, he might have mentioned, those things I quoted are over the top. Strange somehow, that I always felt uncomfortable with Markos' attitudes (from very early on) and then calmed myself into not taking him too serious. Now I start wondering, if I gave him too much slack.
But as always YMMV.
Go Markos. Go Bernie. Go Hillary. May all your mileage vary. What kind of authoritarian messy liberal site, obviously promoting democracy and liberalism, that is.
So disappointing. Cry for me, Koslandia.

The Case for the Libertarian Democrat
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -
