What the funk? Our so called leaders try to pit neighbors against one another.

Other ordinary people are not the problem. Just funkin' sayin'.

Hang in there.

Be yourself.

Have a great weekend! The thread is OPEN.

Working on being myself - good advice.

We planted two new trees out back, this week. Creating our forest in the desert.

Looking forward to the weekend. It's going to be a hot one. Finally.

Have an enjoyable day and weekend, everyone! Pleasantry

@Raggedy Ann tree planter. I moved into this place 19 years ago and planted dozens of trees. Now I have my own little oasis.

@NCTim
We're on well water and the nearby farms, that supply alfalfa and corn to the local dairies, have depleted our water table. We are going to drill a new well this year - need to go 400 feet. The well we are using found water at 85 feet in 1982. Once the well is in, we plan to plant a forest.

Enjoy your oasis!

It's a lovely day in the neighborhood, as Mr. Rogers would say. As much as the chattering class would have us believe otherwise, divisiveness is bad karma. Let's work together.

...another wet one here. Showers through the weekend are predicted. After 3 dry weeks it is a relief. Additionally I can't get out and mow or finish the almost completed well house. There's always next week. With the rain, the grass will really need mowing.

It is the weekly session tonight. Had some fun guests last week. Always nice to explore new material. You never know who will show up...it is part of the fun. One of the original songs we do has the line...
"Wonder who's gonna show up this week, it's always a surprise
We'll pass around the jug and maybe something else and tell some jokes and lies."

Pretty well describes this 40 year old weekly session.

that first cup to kick in. Today's chore list is mountainous, mostly all my fault for lazing around yestidday. Small dinner party tomorrow adds greatly to the to-dos, but It's been scheduled for quite some time, so ... . Finally starting to get light enough to go open the gate and feed the scrub jay. Open the gate during morning twilight and deer sneak in and eat the backyard plants, whereas if it is kept shut then they have to settle for only eating the front yard plants, a situation more to our liking. Wink The scrubbie is accustomed to a fistful of in-the-shell peanuts in a particular elevated spot and will drive one batshit with squawking if it's not there.

Our so-called leaders ain't. I can remember but few who ever were; "don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters". Have to drink my coffee out of the corner of my mouth so as not to damage the clot protecting the socket of the molar I had yanked yesterday. Awkward and time consuming, plus I don't recall this ritual with prior extractions, but I desire no grim repercussions with yet another camping trip in the near term offing.

Have yourself a great one and keep a close eye on the pump handle.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

my less pejorative way of saying "identity politics." OF COURSE, I want equal rights for everyone. (Pandering, however, I could do without, especially totally empty pandering.)

One problem with so-called identity politics is that it is just about the only remaining difference between the two right wings of Gore Vidal's Property Party. Inclusion of women and members of minority groups is wonderful, but it does not replace everything else.

Another problem with so-called identity politics is that anyone who says that it does not replace everything else is made out to be the enemy. So, it is not politics of inclusion, as I would like it to be, but politics of divisiveness.

Moreover, principle-free Democrats don't even always stand firm on identity politics.

There was Obama, the so-called Constitutional Law professor, campaigning for President in Rick Warren's Church, unconstitutionally claiming, in essence, that equal marriage should remain unrecognized because God disapproves of it.

There was Hillary, speaking out against equal marriage on the floor of the U.S. Senate and, when campaigning for President, putting on the table a constitutional amendment to overrule Roe v. Wade.

And, heaven help us, racist, sexist, heir apparent, Joe Biden. (So far, his homophobia seems confined to calling Pastor Pence a "decent guy." Either that, or I need to spend more time with Mr. Google.)

IOW, Democrats are about Democrats, not about equal rights for everyone. So, identify politics is not politics of inclusion. It's not even about Identity Politics. It's about Democratic Self-Interest Politics.

@HenryAWallace I agree with the Stacy Abrams essay. The people with privilege, cast the people with unequal rights as grabby and shrill, simply for wanting equal treatment.

because Democrats want inclusion.

Moreover, plenty of people who are theoretically privileged want equal rights for everyone. You are an example of that, no?

the lyrics pretty much nailed my mind.

Have a good one. Weather is magnificent here in Northern Germany, which is rare. Sunny soft winds. I planted five trees so far. To plant more I have first to deforest the wilderness in our darker corners of the garden. I started but gave up. Don't have the strength anymore.

Next project is to grow mushrooms. And more salad. May be son will come over some day and then we create a bit of a paradise. A river must run through and some fish could be raised in there. I could make smoked rainbow trouts, have my own chickens, and one pig to have piglets for special occasions to roast...

Sigh, life could be so good, if one wanted it that way.

Happy Weekend to all.

still seems to me like an undeserved victory for fascism.

“Management” of opinion and perception — censorship — centralized control of mass communication — manipulation of the minds of the public “for their own good”? Authoritarian attitudes and actions I associate with fascism.

I continue to strongly believe it’s evil and wrong to replace a universal human right with the notion that only people who have “okay” opinions according to some collection of authorities “deserve” to be allowed the “privilege” of communicating at all.

Remember the lesson of That Other Place — first they came for the “conspiracy theorists” … then anyone who “repeated right-wing talking points” … in the end, the most anodyne pro-Bernie comment was enough to get you kicked off.

it becomes so taboo to question any kind of story involving Holocaust victims that people can totally make stuff up and never get called on it until years later, if ever.
