Nate Silver now going after Bernie supporters
Submitted by gjohnsit on Sun, 09/22/2019 - 6:51pm
Nate Silver has been hating on Bernie since 2015, but he's generally held off insulting millions of his supporters until now.
What a nice, unbiased "numbers guy".
Nate wrote in 2015: Bernie Sanders Could Win Iowa And New Hampshire. Then Lose Everywhere Else.
Last month he wrote this.
Nate Silver, the editor of FiveThirtyEight, descended to psychological babble, assailing Sanders for having a “sense of entitlement,” feeling that “he’s entitled to the nomination this time, and if he doesn’t win, it’s only because ‘the media’/’the establishment’ took it away from him.”
Silver was always biased, but now he's done a Markos. Any credibility he may have once had is gone.
Comments
OT: Horrific
Silver is a sellout just like kos
and a dumbass.... shouldn't he know that with more clowns running this time that the numbers will change? And sheesh..why are people focusing on polls this far out? Thanks, Liz for starting this ridiculous election season so early!
Residue? SMDH. Good thing he's being hammered on this.
I didn't know that Moosetits created the Civics tracker that he has on his website. I wonder how reliable it is? lol

LOL Moosetits, insulting to actual
What is it with these passé fools like Nate Silver promoting himself on the back of Bernie Sanders? Literally any smear to distract from the bad press ByeDone and Two Faces Warren keep generating.
And as for nicknames,
maybe we can all him Nate Slither, because he can't seem to stop smarming put of the tall grass to hiss and spit about in a fit of nonsense.
Apologies to real snakes and other wildlife that slithers.
Gonna put this up near the top

Gottit Nate. That you think this is acceptable just shows how much you have sold out. Hope it was worth it.

Nate Silver is propagandist

Has Nate ever gone after Warren like he does Bernie?
Since she is a progressive and all who might threaten the status quo. I think that just proves that no one thinks Warren will do anything she says that she is planning on doing. We know that people who any threat get ignored by the media.

Exactly!
And on top of all this Silver has blocked people from reading responses to his tweets. The privileged establishment, like Nate Silver, are now isolating themselves even further from knowing what the little people actually think. This is arrogance of the highest nature.

Hahahahahaha a sense of entitlement
Gee everyone, remember a few years ago when there was this one candidate running for the presidency, and we were all being told to shut up about democratic practices like debates and voting, because she was The One, qualified beyond reproach, who got Things Done? I engaged in some political chat on my vacation
with a former Secretary of State that had served for both a Dem and Repub governor. He is very Dem insider.
He said LOTE is his best vote against Repubs, sort of the party line, especially for minority members. He is Hispanic, did say that demographic had become fed up with Dems, despite Trump.
I told him that the Dem Party had conditioned him, me, et. al, to do LOTE voting. I have decided to condition the Dems to put someone on the ballot who represents me, or I will stay home on election day and reorganize my sock drawer.
We are corresponding about some upcoming travels, so I will eventually get him to discuss the subject of the liberal wing of the party, get his opinions on what is going on.
He is absolutely in the something-is-better-than-nothing camp, but I got the sense that he was a true liberal, wishing for more of that.

I've always liked Zaid's willingness to think out of the box. I don't necessarily agree with all his takes but he sure makes me think with lotsa tweets like this:

I was having that problem
. . . because DuckDuckGo took out twitter embeds. I was able to reset it and get them back.

All I know is that I still can't see the tweet. And I'm just using c99 itself to read your message.

Just using C99%?
Whatever browser you use probably controls the twitter embeds. Try clicking the browser icon in the upper right and see if can can finagle turning on the "Show twitter embeds." Alternatively, try to look for and change twitter embed settings in any kind of ad blocking software you might have. I spent a lot of time working this out with Snoopydawg who was very helpful. The change happened for me after a Windows update which somehow managed to change my Duckduckgo settings.
I just noticed that asinine "message to the

Well, the cool thing about Sanders
is that his message doesn't change with his audience.
So his message to the 55% of...whatever (Democratic primary voters who weren't purged off voter rolls or out of the party via an involuntary party registration change?) who voted for Clinton is the same as his message to me.

True about Sanders but his new campaign staff?
What you say about Bernie is spot on but like Jilani, I also have noticed that more than a few of his campaign higherups seem to be doing an IdPol thing by harping on the diversity of Bernie's staff and electoral base. What's important is to win over voters. And that might not be the best way to do it in Iowa and New Hampshire although I don't know if staffers' diversity messaging is overriding Bernie's most excellent same ol' same ol emphasis on class or even getting through to anyone much beyond twitter which course is fine by me.

What is with these people that they go from reporting the news to wanting to shape it? The whole thing about Nate was that he seemed to be able to put his own prejudices away and accurately report on numbers and trends and all that. I guess that was before he became a member of the 10% pundit class. Luckily for him, he’ll never be made to account for taking a nosedive in accuracy as long as he keeps saying what TPTB want to hear.

"Sense of entitlement"? Just yell 'I am a disengenuous shameless

Nothing, absolutely nothing that Bernie has said insinuates a sense of entitlement. I now regard Trump as a beacon of truth and accuracy compared to Nate Silver.
What is their real objection to Bernie?
Which of his policies will hurt them personally?
Which of them will hurt society?
Which of Bernies policies is the opposite of what they want for the future of the nation?
Does anyone know?
Without that, it just looks like an ego trip. Or style over substance.
I think it's a three-pronged threat
1. Bernie Sanders is not afraid of them.
2. Bernie Sanders cannot be bought and paid for by special interests.
3. Bernie Sanders is building movements, not just running a campaign.
4. Bernie Sanders too often
tells the truth.

Maybe
Aside: I can see why he doesn't overtly challenge Empire because he probably still wants to do things for a long while. But you can't get to his policies without reigning war making in. Just seems obvious to me why they want him gone; why he limits his public boldness to domestic matters.
Orwell: Where's the omelette?
I wonder if challenging Empire is still too
Not true
The military could be run efficiently, and probably more efficiently on maybe one third of it's present budget and be STRONGER.
The DoD budget is just a nest of pork barrel corruption. It's purpose is not to defend the country. It's purpose is not even to run an empire. It's purpose is to be a cash cow for the one percent.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
You skip the point
Orwell: Where's the omelette?
Can't agree with you
Most liberals were born into safe and comfortable suburban homes. You don't realize that the world is a jungle where you have to fight to survive.
I've been able to give your kind of life to my daughter and grandkids, but I wonder if I really did them a good turn or if they will be destroyed in the holocaust to come because they don't know how to harden their heart and survive.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
The pundits and people like Silver
Bernie and Tulsi are both real threats to the status quo because they both are talking about making systemic changes. Tulsi on foreign policy and regime change wars and Bernie on domestic policy and investing in those of us who consist of the 99%. Both are a real threat to the gravy train which has been siphoning off assets from the people to line the pockets of the banks and the MIC.
Elizabeth Warren pretends to be one of us, but in reality is not going to systemically change things. She is a neoliberal through and through. Yes, she will nibble very lightly around the edges, but she is not a real threat to the oligarch's entrenched power.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
Well I'll take that if I have to
I'd vote for her against Trump. It's not like HRC who was indistinguishable. Half a loaf and all that.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Elizabeth Warren . . .
has called for an annual tax on WEALTH, not just income. It is as radical as anything proposed in American public policy in my lifetime, and I didn't miss ratification of the constitution my much.
Elizabeth Warren's willingness to endorse some neoliberals is a strength. If Bernie wins the presidency his movement will force his policies through congress. Don't hold your breath. Bernie will have about 8 members of congress and maybe a senator. Bernie was quite willing to compromise on the campaign rhetoric as mayor. It's that or nothing.
If a few people owe Warren something for campaign visits she might be able to get a bit more. The more you can disagree without being disagreeable, the more you're likely to walk away with.
yes and no
I have to grant that it is radical. And 100% certain not to pass.
That's wishful thinking at best.
This is true. Bernie's agenda will be mostly blocked by both Repubs and Dems.
That's not the way it works. It works in the opposite direction.
Bernie has proposed a wealth tax too
It irks me to no end that the pundits at the WaPo are saying that Bernie is copying Warren on the wealth tax when the opposite is the case in every Bernie-lite plan Warren has rolled out. Bernie has been proposing a wealth tax since at least 2014.
Further, I do not trust a thing Warren says. Her past actions do not match her rhetoric. And since she is getting advice and counsel from Hillary Clinton, I would imagine she has both a public and a private position on these issues.
We know that Bernie's public position is also his private position. His history and actions back that up.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

Go figure Warren copied Bernie's plan

Meh, no big deal
Nate Silver is an insiders kind of source anyway. What is much more of a concern is the slant given by media, the three biggies of regular TV and the cables CNN and MSNBC. Sanders doesn't get the mentions and I'm sure it does him no good. Ultimately one needs airtime for Super Tuesday and voters who haven't been following things closely but none the less vote.
I listen to a Sanders interview or speach about once every couple few months. He doesn't change much. He probably scares the bejesus out of a lot of the entitled set in both parties.
Wait a minute---
is Silver genuinely saying that reporters and, uh, experts like himself won't say that Bernie's campaign isn't going well...for fear of what Bernie's supporters will say to them on Twitter?
In some way, this represents a nadir in both American journalism and politics. There's a buffet of loathsomeness in that comment. As Kate sometimes says, it's a 7-layer shit dip.

Looks like they won't have the twitter problem anymore
Twitter apparently just introduced a new functionality allowing Twitter users to remove from public view ("hide") any replies to their tweets that they don't like.
Here's what Caity Johnstone says about it. She starts out by referring to Nate Silver's "annoyingness" tweet, and then goes on:

Personally, I think that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey may have just killed off Twitter by doing this. All you'll see now is a bunch of narcissists showing off and their admirers expressing adoration.

Cat fights between Warren and Kambama's supporters
Apparently Liz and Kambama went to the LGBT forum and some people didn't like the way questions were asked of the candidates. Both women didn't support transgendered folks a few years ago, but both have apparently evolved on the issue. You need to read the DK diary on this if you want to get the drift. This woman also asked ByeDone about the time he said Pence is a decent guy.
Remember that Kambama was the attorney general for California and she ran on being a progressive and would make people's lives better if she won, but then she pulled an Obama and did some horrible things that are now being whitewashed by her supporters which many are POC which I do not understand.
"Black Blue Check women are Happy Warren called and/or met with them when she was running for president. They’ll excuse anything on her behalf and bending in pretzels just for a pat on the head."
"They *need* to give us receipts about specific actions Liz has taken, but *cricket noises* instead.
Way to downplay the attorney with a proven track record on LGBTIAQ+ rights."
"
2 Questions:
1. Why is it ok that EW talks abt an issue she doesn’t even have a prelim plan for?
2. Why is this person trying to divide the LGBTQ community like that, when hate crimes against our community are going up across the board"
Liz said...word salad... that she wasn't pleased with some of his policies and attitudes towards LGBT and on other issues, but he told her a sack of lies so she voted to confirm him. She also said that she did because Trump might appoint someone worse! Sure Liz. HUD has been attacked for decades, but of course you have a plan for that.
I see you for who you are.

I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
I didn't see it on DK, but on Twitter
The anti Bernie squad loves to remind people that he's not a democrat dammit!
He's much more a democrat than Manchin, Jones and every other blue Dawg democrat. But shsss...Manchin voted for Kavanaugh which was okay for some reason. Susan Collins also voted for him, but that was different because.....????..... reasons I guess. Hey. Isn't that considered sexist if they call out the woman for doing that, but not the man? Manchin had to do so that he could get reelected and he is the best democrats can do in Virginia because it's such a red state and his seat gives democrats the majority when they win. I just don't see this as an advantage when he votes with republicans on bills that democrats say they try to block.
Putin isn’t going to make you homeless or kill you or deny you health care.
Your government will allow it to happen though.
Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
That's one of the good things about him, IMO.
Reply deboosting
