Meet the New Boss

meet the new boss.jpg

I'm a sucker for classic rock, particularly the political messages spread through the music of the sixties and seventies. I'm like Homer Simpson who said, "why do they need new music, everyone knows rock was perfected by 1973". Tonight I was holding my 14 month old grandson and standing in front of the kitchen stereo. He loves that (so do I), I'll dance and sway and bob and weave all while he's holding on for dear life and getting into the tunes. I've even got him twiddling his fingers to guitar solos.

Then this song comes on, you know it, "Don't get Fooled Again" by The Who. Me and my little buddy started rocking out, I turned it up to 9 (because 10 isn't permitted in the kitchen) and life couldn't be better. It's a long song, my arms are getting tired but I can't stop now, the kid has to learn. Rock is Life. The crescendo, I mean at Volume 9 the CRESCENDO, a long Townsend solo then a Daltry scream and, "Meet the new boss, Same as the old boss".

Damn. It was a moment. I've heard the song hundreds of times, who knows, a thousand. There were other times when the song meant something to me. But this time, with Trump and my grandson, it just fit. I thought, fuck, why can't more people just admit that it really doesn't matter, we're still serfs with no say in the matter. That should be even more evident with Trump, who's coming in saying he's going to do all these fucking things while only 25% of the voting population voted for him, and some of them still hated him. It doesn't matter what the other 75% thinks, Trump is going to do these things because he's the new boss, same as the old boss.

Everyone's talking about what Trump will do, how will he "govern". I'm at the point where I marvel that we allow this kind of control over our lives without batting a fucking eye. The discussion is never about why we need a president at all, or why the president has the power he/she does, it's about what they're going to do, not questioning why we do this. Is this the only way humans can govern themselves, by appointing one person to be King? Nebakanezer, King Tut, Caligula, Nero, Napolean, Trump. I can't be the only one tired of THAT.

Just look at who's on his team, man. It's the same as with Obama when we knew in the first 30 days it was over, he was Bush III. I knew it, I wrote an article at Daily Kos about it. I had voted for Obama in 2008, I watched his inauguration with Pete Seeger and "This Land is Our Land". I got fooled. I did, big time. But that woke me up and it will never happen again. Because once you "break on through to the other side" you can't go back. Trump hasn't even taken office and it's over. People that think this is any different for WE THE SERFS are going to be sorely disappointed. Discussing the degrees of Rule is a waste of time. We need to end their Rule, not vote for it.

Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again, no, no

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

Yeaah!

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again, no no

Yeaaah!
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Single digits can be rude, lol, while two digits can mean 'peace' - and what could be more peaceful than an ear-bleeding perfect 10 on music that matters to you? (As long as you're not in someone else's kitchen, of course.)

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

and now with Schumer leading the Dem's it fits both parties. The Song Remains the Same.

You are right. Nothing is going to change for we the people except for things are going to get worse for us.
They militarized the cops because they expect us to finally decide to get off our asses and try to wrestle control from our fascistic government, but too many people don't understand that we are living under one already.
The protests against Trump aren't going to accomplish anything, but hey if people want to let him know how upset they are with his presidency, that's okay.
Hopefully the DAPL protests will stop the pipeline, but what is going to make the militarized cops stand down?
Maybe if people protested like the Bundys did it would change things but I doubt that TPTB will accept an armed protest if it will affect their profits.
I love the picture you painted dancing with your grandson and coming to the conclusion that nothing we do matters to our government.
They don't mind giving us a few social issues wins now and then especially if we fought for them because it makes people think that they have a say in matters.
But no amount of protesting after the bank bailouts was acceptable to them because we were interfering with their business.
Nor did the war protests, the health care ones or others.
We do not have a representative government and I have no idea how to change that without a lot of people dying.
Anyone believe that the democrats are going to stop Ryan from dismantling the social safety nets or any of the other things that TPTB want control over?

we're really up against here. I'm afraid all this talk about third parties is going to take away from what we need right now, which is to protest the hell out of anything and everything this government does at the highest levels and try to force changes in this political system. I was reading something earlier where the case was made that we must change the system before we can possibly even play in it, i.e. third parties cannot succeed in this system. It will not happen without major changes and those won't happen if we don't find a way outside the system to force it. It's a vicious cycle whereby we keep having these elections, focusing on elections, spending and donating money on elections, organizing for elections, but the changes we need will not happen through elections.

I felt the same way you did about Obama but I got there sooner. I had concerns after his FISA vote that he promised us he would filibuster but it was his cabinet appointees that told me that he wasn't going to change anything.
Putting the same people in who were responsible for the global economic crisis? I thought WTF, why would he do that?
Then we learned a few months ago that Podesta and the people he represented picked his cabinet members for him.
That tells me that the president is basically just a figure head.
How long did it take before he started using drones in Pakistan? Then in one country after another without authorization from congress. But I'm sure that if he asked for it he would have gotten it.
And now Trump is going to be able to do everything Obama did because the people who protested against those things when Bush did them went silent when Obama did them. Yay team D!
I just read this comment on another site. I hope that Hillary, the DNC and everyone who made sure that Bernie didn't win are happy.
"Those who made Sanders impossible made Trump inevitable."

we need the cops/military to agree with us. Individually, they are part of the 99%, we could use them to stand with us. So if you know any, or have casual interaction with any, remind them. They may be convinced to be on our side in tense situations. I don't recommend daisies in gun barrels, but we want most on our side.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

but until their careers or pensions are threatened, I don't see that happening. Just look at how many of them have no problem brutally attacking the people that they were sworn to protect.
Watching the videos of OWS, the Ferguson protests and the DAPL ones and seeing the cops pepper spray old people, young kids or anyone else who is using their right to protest.
During the OWS protests Citibank gave the nypd $4.9 million to cover overtime and any lawsuits filed.
I read an article last year how the police unions have powerful lobbyists that donate to the democrats in order to make sure that they don't bring legislation against the brutality.
Obama's DOJ has investigated many PDs and told them to clean up their acts but they haven't held anyone or any police department accountable for destroying people's civil liberties.
After the drug war started congress continued to roll back our civil rights, especially our 3rd and 4th amendments.
Joe Biden is responsible for many of the rules congress passed. His act of being 'funny uncle joe' hides the many heinous bills he has helped pass.
If you have the chance read Ray Balko's book The Rise of the Wzrrior Cop
He describes the damage that the drug war has done and tells about the rise and creation of SWAT teams, civil asset forfeiture and the attack on our rights.
It's not until this happens IMO that the cops are going to start protecting us instead of the elites and the corporations.

The Third Amendment is the one about quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner's consent.

also known as the Castle doctrine. The right to defend yourself in your own home.
As riverlover wrote below, the cops are able to get no knock warrants in the middle of the night and if your try to defend yourself, you are blown away. Even if they went to the wrong house.
I am getting this information from Balko's book

It's always been an issue. Seems like there's a never ending supply, you might turn some but the system keeps going. Maybe it's just the human condition.

Which reminds me.

The skeletons in Keith Ellison’s display case

Congressman Keith Ellison, candidate of progressive Democrats and many regressive Democrats for chair of the Democratic National Committee eagerly urged the illegal and disastrous violent overthrow of the government of Libya in 2011, which he celebrated as a success despite what it meant for the rule of law, despite all the death and suffering, despite the predictable instability and weapons proliferation to follow.

Ellison moved on to pushing, and using his perch as co-chair of the Progressive Caucus to push, for a similar war on Syria. For years now he has advocated for the illegal and murderous creation of no fly zones and “safe zones” — what Hillary Clinton admitted only to Goldman Sachs would require that you “kill a lot of Syrians.” Ellison was an early backer of bombing Syria in 2013. He met with peace activists but rejected their appeal.

Back in 2007, before Ellison’s leadership, the Congressional Progressive Caucus had helped organize 90 Congress members to commit to voting against war funding. Most of them turned around and voted for war funding. That ridiculous disappointment was a high point for the CPC.

For me, it probably will be just like the old bosses.

We need to keep a protective eye out for the Muslims, though. My daughter and I were talking about the idea of registering as Muslims, if it comes to that, and trying to get everyone else to register. Hopefully, we won't have to do that.
