Hey, let's threaten Russia with a preemptive military strike

I don't know about you, but I think that threats of global nuclear annihilation are generally a bad idea.

The U.S. ambassador to NATO set off alarm bells Tuesday when she suggested that the United States might “take out” Russian missiles that U.S. officials say violate a landmark arms control treaty.

Although Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison’s comments were somewhat ambiguous, arms control experts said they could be interpreted to mean a preemptive strike. Such a move could lead to nuclear war.
...
Asked during a news conference at NATO headquarters what the United States might do about a new class of Russian missiles that appear to violate the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty, Hutchison said, “The countermeasures would be to take out the missiles that are in development by Russia in violation of the treaty.”

“She does threaten preemption. She just didn’t mean it,” said Jeffrey Lewis, an arms control scholar at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

“Welcome to NATO! You have one job: to not start nuclear war with Russia,” he joked.

That's a real knee-slapper of a joke.
Although some people might not see the humor.

Taken in isolation, this is just one diplomat saying something stupid.
But this isn't to be taken in isolation, because this happened just a few days ago.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke says the U.S. Navy can blockade Russia if needed to keep it from controlling energy supplies in the Middle East as it does in Europe.

"The United States has that ability, with our Navy, to make sure the sea lanes are open, and, if necessary, to blockade ... to make sure that their energy does not go to market," Zinke said on Friday at an industry event in Pittsburgh hosted by the Consumer Energy Alliance.

This would also be called "an act of war".

Why are we doing this? Why does Washington feel it necessary to threaten WW3 and the extinction of the human species?

can we tolerate this?

President Vladimir Putin’s government says it is working on plans to de-dollarise Russia’s $1.6tn economy and wean its biggest industries off the US currency, following four years of US sanctions against the country and its expectation of new restrictions.
...A plan by Andrei Kostin, the head of Russian bank VTB, for banks and companies to convert dollar settlements into other currencies, has the backing of the finance ministry, central bank, and — Mr Kostin said this week— Mr Putin.

In addition, the Kremlin has sought to strike deals with major trading partners to use the Russian rouble for imports and exports.

That push has been welcomed in countries such as China and Turkey where relations with the US are similarly strained.

Putin says calm down

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the United States should bring a halt to internal political infighting which he said was poisoning U.S. relations with Russia.

India buys Russian anyway

The United States has warned India against a planned purchase of S-400 surface-to-air missiles from Russia when President Vladimir Putin’s visits New Delhi this week, saying such an acquisition would attract sanctions under U.S. law.

this sound familiar

Turning her attention to Corbyn, a common target throughout the speech, May hit the dovish Labour leader over his vow to only approve military action if the UN security council agrees, which would give Russia a veto. Corbyn cannot be allowed to “outsource our conscience to Kremlin,” May added to much applause from the Tory members.

Big deal. Other countries can avoid US sanctions by setting up a corporation through which any one can conduct business with India, Iran, and whomever to circumvent the paper tiger's sanctions.

It's almost like we think it's still the post World War II era and we don't realize that the rest of the world could not care less about the US these days. We are a joke. And we did it to ourselves. And, no, we would not have been less of a joke if Hillary were President. Or Obama. Or Bush 43.

1. How would first-term Presidents insure the US tradition of always re-electing a war-time President, even Nixon and Bush 43?

2. What would justify the insane expenditures, the Pentagon/military, the CIA, the FBI, Homeland Security? The MIC?

3. If we don't keep the MIC going like a well-oiled machine, what the hell would we have to export anymore?

What kind of patriot even questions such things? Hmmmm?

The really stupid political leaders have been piling on so hard and long onto Rusophobia that the middle level politicians think that this is acceptable and even a good idea. Russia has responded that a naval blockade would be an act of war and would have dire consequences. Russia could easily sink any ships trying to enforce a blockade, from a long distance away. They wouldn't even see the missiles coming. The US really needs to tone down the Rusophobia. The good(?) news is that our really stupid political leaders have now turned their ire to China. Sinophobia is another really bad idea. Believe it or not, Putin is now advising Trump to cut out this economic warfare as the US is dependent on the dollar being the reserve currency. Also Russia does not have enough time to de-dollarize, so they will get hurt by Trump's aggressive policies. Current plans for Russia is about five years to fully de-dollarize.

with the Russiagate narrative.

Any progressive running for office at any level who plays along — whether they truly believe or are just pretending in order to conform — helps normalize and legitimize the emotional framing that we’re already at war, Russia is the enemy, and by jingo, we might as well go all in.

"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."

It is my contention that the current xenophobia toward all things Russian has strong echoes, parallels, and exact copies of real German Nazi propaganda against Jews and Slavs, particularily Russians. The Russians are undermining everything theme is exactly Nazi propaganda about the grand Jewish conspiracy to destroy Germany and undermine European civilization.

So a World War II scholar whose name is lost to me wrote a book asking the question why did the Germans go genocidial toward the Jews marking a distinct change in the 1,000 year history of European anti-semitism. He examined Nazi propaganda and came to the conclusion that the Nazis had come to the conclusion that the Jews were waging an actual active war against the Germans. And that killing them was an justified act of self protection.

He examined Nazi propaganda how the Nazis evolved in their beliefs. Very extensive research.

American (and EU) Anti-Russian propaganda has evolved from the simple to involving grand conspiracies effecting everything in American society. Soon even the boy scouts will be hacked. Russians destroyed the last Star War movies, and the list goes on.

This has transformed in acts of actual war as the guiding metaphor. Hillary just declared with others that what the Russias did in 2016 was equivalent to 9-11. Karl Reiner and God-himself have declared what Russia is doing to us is WAR.

How many steps are we now toward actual war give that the elite and media narrative is the Russia committed an act of war equivalent to the murder of thousands of civilians. Bush invaded Iraq and 72% of Americans supported him. The Russians are for mysterious reasons killing ex-spyies with decades old nerve gas. If Putin is Hitler, how was Hitler stopped? Pre-emptive military strikes--you betcha.

The political elites, activists, and media are going to self-talk themselves into a real war.

Trading with the Enemy - The Nazi - American Money Plot 1933-1949
by Charles Higham

Preface

p xiii
...a number of financial and industrial figures of World War II and several members of the government served the cause of money before the cause of patriotism. While aiding the United States' war effort, they also aided Nazi Germany's.

p xiv
It thus came as a severe shock to learn that several of the greatest American corporate leaders were in league with Nazi corporations before and after Pearl Harbor, including I.G. Farben, the colossal Nazi industrial trust that created Auschwitz. Those leaders interlocked through an association I have dubbed The Fraternity. Each of these business leaders was entangled with the others through interlocking directorates or financial sources. All were represented internationally by the National City Bank or by the Chase National Bank and by the Nazi attorneys Gerhardt Westrick and Dr. Heinrich Albert. All had connections to that crucial Nazi economist, Emil Puhl, of Hitler's Reichsbank and the Bank for International Settlements.

The tycoons were linked by an ideology: the ideology of Business as Usual. Bound by identical reactionary ideas, the members sought a common future in fascist domination regardless of which world leader might further that ambition.

Several members not only sought a continuing alliance of interests for the duration of World War II but supported the idea of a negotiated peace with Germany that would bar any reorganization of Europe along liberal lines. It would leave as its residue a police state that would place The Fraternity in postwar possession of financial, industrial, and political autonomy. When it was clear that Germany was losing the war the businessmen became notably more "loyal.''

Then, when war was over, the survivors pushed into Germany, protected their assets, restored Nazi friends to high office, helped provoke the Cold War, and insured the permanent future of The Fraternity...

Definitely a must read because it sums up the reason for two years of non stop Russia Russia Russia.

Until the first seven days of September there was only circumstantial evidence that intelligence agencies worked with the party in power to undermine the opposition party candidate before the election and the president afterward.

The Steele dossier was paid for the Democratic Party and then the intelligence agencies were used to spy on Trump's campaign. This is watergate on steroids.

Real Evidence Emerges

On Sept. 5, The New York Times took the highly unusual decision to publish an anonymous op-ed article. Titled, “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration,” it had the subtitle: “I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”

This is the deep state peeking out from behind the curtain and telling us that others are calling the shots. And instead of the country rising up to say that "no this is not okay" many people cheered that on because of their disdain of Trump and their belief that Russia did indeed put Trump into office. Why was it so easy to sell people on this? Because Hillary lost. But what if that was the plan all along? There is no way that Hillary would have been able to do the things that Trump is doing. Sign the tax cuts? Appoint people whose job it is to dismantle regulations? Sign off on gutting social security and the other social programs? Nope. No way she would have been able to get away with doing any of those things.

Finally. Would Hillary have tried to get a Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court? To do whatever it is that he is going to help do? No way in hell.

Thanks for posting the link.
