Friday Photography - Crescent Moon and Venus
Submitted by janis b on Fri, 08/13/2021 - 6:11pm
Good evening everyone, and enjoy your waxing weekend. I’m posting early because I have to leave in a little while, and I wanted to say that I’ll be taking a brief intermission from posting Friday Photography. The cafe will of course remain open for refreshment to all guests … and willing hosts.
I’ll check back in later when I return.
Be well

Nice shot of the crescent moon
The clouds seem to give it more definition.
Here I see Spica below and to the north just now.
Randtntx suggested looking up to watch the Perseids
meteor shower. Haven't had a clear sky for awhile, but
tonight may be a good look.
Many thanks for hosting this. It gives the shutter bugs
a good place to display their art.
Hope you are well. See you around. Come back!
A mind that does not detest bad government is foolish.
Killer reflection shot, QMS!

Hi there QMS
What a great Van Morrison, so soulful and bright.
I’ll definitely be back, probably sooner than later. I’m fine, I just thought a break from computer related stuff would make me feel finer ; ). It’s not easy, especially here where the company is so nice.
The moon photo is sensational. I can almost feel I’m there, thank you. I think it’s time for reflection that I am looking for.
Be well and strong
Hi photo phreaks
Hi Janis! Hope you are well! Hate to see you go, you are the hostess with the mostess ya know. And you have the best greens in the whole land! I know how needing a break is. Good for mind and spirit. I read a thing that the average blog lasts 2-3 years. Whatever an average blog is. I often have biz work to do Friday eves, and make a regular blog post myself Friday nights so it is real hard for me to host. I can stop by, throw up some eye-candy, and some appreciation for the same from others easy, but the commitment to be here to host is hard, just ask my wife, of 40 years.
Sometimes I can jump in, sometimes I can't, and can never tell what kind of Friday eve it will be for biz work until I get there. Fair seas and a nice breeze be with you in the meanwhile! Thank you so very much for being here. I have really loved seeing your photos. And sharing paths has been great as well! My very best regards always,
Here is what I got free with a fillup at the gas station today. An Io Moth (Automeris io). A silk moth, but not the big XL ones, just a couple inches across, though plenty spectacular. I have wanted to see one of these all my life, it had just expired.

Be well all, hope everyone is having fun!

Nice find on the silk moth, dystopian.

Hola Dysto, great moth.

Hi dystopian
How serendipitous to how found such a thing of beauty and desire in such a mundane experience of getting gas. Lucky you.
The black spots of the silk moth have brilliant diamonds in them, cool.
I have always appreciated you covering when needed, as well as your always fascinating observations and knowledge of nature.
Like you said ‘birds gotta fly’. After 40 years your wife probably just rolls her eyes at you ; ).
See you soon.
Thanks for Friday Photos tonight, Janis.
Nice shot of the Moon and Venus, Janis.
Hope all is well and you will be back soon.
In keeping with tonight's theme.

Thank you, EL
I shot this in Idaho the night before the solar eclipse in 2017. Those city lights are actually the lights from a small outdoor concert that was going on about a mile away from my location.

Thank you, Moonbat.
I wasn't familiar with vaporwave aesthetics so I looked it up. Gotta say not really my thing.

You're welcome Social
That photo is remarkable, and very memorable.
Your work is always expansively appreciated. Keep them coming.
Thank you, Janis.

Good evening Janis. Great photo. Take as long of an
intermission as you need. Just the commitment and the knowledge that you have such a commitment is wearing enough, when you add in doing stuff as well ... .
be well, have a good one and a nice refreshing intermission.

Thank you el,
for all your commitment and support. I am often in amazement of your stamina and dedication, as well as your appreciation, quirky knowledge, and perspective.
I intend to return refreshed. I may even entertain again with interesting patterns ; ).
Grazie Janis

Hi Bollox
Those two photos are so representative of how I have come to know you. The phone person is bizarre, yet perfectly balanced. Even the light switch is an integral part of the composition, being aligned with the belly button of the phone sculpture, a work of art. The mysteriousness of the close- up is another part. Thank you for sharing this space with me and us.
The stars are right once more....

Hi Moonbat,
happy to see you here again.
I especially enjoyed the astronauts reaching for each other between planets, and the cartoon. Nothing like a little humour to round things out.
Dear Janis, while I always want to post photos,
it seems I'm late or haven't gotten the recent ones off the camera, onto our photo software, then to the photo files. Despite my hope to share critters and flora from this part of the world.
We have just made a very important step in the progress of our homestead: we've had septic gasses from a poorly ventilated fosse septique, rendering our terrasse running along the front of the house unusable, and often gasses into the kitchen/dining/music/office ground floor. It has left both of us rather unsteady health-wise and slow thinking for a year.
Now that I can breathe fresh air, thanks to an Englishman and an Irishman, who will do anything we can revive ourselves and begin to prioritize the next steps. We are going to build a secondary treatment pond with plants best for this kind of eco construction sanitaire. It's encouraged here.
We have been encouraging our Prairie and getting perennial Scabiosa, carpet Thyme, Companula, Mallow, Yarrow, Queen Anne's Lace, and some other blue-purple bloomers to be IDd.
The number of butterflies, pollinators and beetles for such small patches is extraordinary.
I will miss your weekly lovely photos and the thread thoughts they encourage. May you refresh, rejuvenate and come back ready for renewed enthusiasm.
Please stay safe, and maybe quietly check on us once in awhile. And look up for the Perseids unless they don't show up down there.
