The Fast Track to Oblivion
For six years, members of the OFA, and members of the Daily Kos have attacked progressives for opposing Obama’s pro-corporate agenda. The anger expressed on both sides has reached a boiling point; but now that authority for Fast Track is being “fast tracked” through Congress, a line in the sand has been crossed. If Congress grants Obama Fast Track authority, then the Democratic Party will lose the support of its base in 2016, and the party will lose the Presidency, and it will be unable to garner enough support to regain Congress.
The Democratic Party has reached a point of no return; it can no longer absorb republican policies and remain a viable political entity. Either it goes all in for the Republican agenda, and ceases to exist as a champion of middle class values; or it walks away from neo-liberal triangulation and returns to its roots.
There is no room to negotiate around the tidal wave of anger headed its way.
TPP is an extremely unpopular trade deal. Going into last year’s midterm election, 62% of Americans said they opposed Fast Track, and Democratic leaders failed to heed the alarm and consequently, the party paid a heavy price.
But this time, the losses they will incur in 2016 will have far reaching consequences. And if the TPP is passed, you won’t be able to pedal the Democratic brand to a junk dealer.
And Obama stands front and center in this fight, and the people standing behind him are not Democrats; they are Republicans.
And waiting in the wings to take the reins from Obama is Hillary Clinton. And no matter how much money she spends, and no matter how much she pretends to be a populist, she is “all in” for free trade.
To understand how morally bankrupt and deceitful the Democratic Party has become, simply read through Obama’s 2008 campaign speeches. Almost every single word he spoke can be used as an indictment of his actions.
For example:
From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
LORAINE, OHIO -- At a press conference here today, Obama claimed that Hillary Clinton had to take responsibility for the passage of NAFTA, because "she has essentially presented herself as co-president during the Clinton years."
Asked why Obama was attacking Clinton on NAFTA when neither candidate held an elected office to influence the passage of that legislation, Obama fired back saying that the "premise" of Clinton's candidacy "has been 35 years of experience, including eight years in the White House."
He argued that Clinton takes credit for "every good thing that happened" and said that it allowed her to be attacked on the bad as well."The notion that you can selectively pick what you take credit for and then run away from what isn't politically convenient that doesn't make sense. If she suggested she had nothing to do with economic policy in the Clinton White House, then it would not be fair for me to bring it up but as you know, that's not the claim that she is making," Obama said.
NAFTA has turned into a political hot potato as Clinton and Obama stump in Ohio, where the loss of manufacturing jobs has devastated the local economy. Obama has repeatedly attacked Clinton on NAFTA in recent days, as he tries to cut into her lead in the polls here.
Both political parties are dinosaurs; they are drowning in corruption, and it is apparent to almost everyone, the political system in D.C. is beyond redemption.
DNC leaders need to hear this message loud and clear. Hillary Clinton represents the past. Elizabeth Warren is the future.
In an article posted today at the Huffington Post, Mike Lux outlined the reforms she is championing, and when compared to Obama’s actions it’s easy to see whose values represent the future of the Democratic Party, and whose duplicity has dragged us into the sewer.
Mike Lux:
o Hold financial institutions and individuals accountable for cheating customers
o Close the auto loan loophole and extend CFPB oversight to auto dealers
o Stop financial fraud recidivism by preventing any institution from entering into a non-prosecution agreement or deferred prosecution agreement if they are already operating under such an agreement
o Deter future financial fraud by imposing a mandatory minimum monetary penalty at least equal to the profits generated by the illegal conduct and strengthening judicial review of deferred prosecution and non-prosecution agreements
· Strengthen enforcement by requiring the Fed's Board of Governors to vote on all major supervisory and regulatory matters, and giving each Governor his or her own staff
o Stop financial institutions from passing risk on to taxpayers
o Cap the size of financial institutions as originally proposed by Senators Brown and Kaufman
o Reinstate the barrier between commercial banking and investment banking as proposed in the 21th Century Glass-Steagall Act
o Improve market discipline by restricting the Fed's emergency lending authority
· Change tax policies that encourage excessive risk-taking and financial instability
o Close the bonus loophole that allows financial institutions to write off billions in executive bonuses each year
o Limit highly leveraged financial institutions from fully deducting their interest payments
o Institute a targeted financial transactions tax
o Create simple, structural rules for regulating the shadow banking sector

Obama promised Americans KORUS, his free trade deal with the South Koreans, would create 200,000 jobs, but in reality, it has increased income inequality.
Robert Scott:
KORUS took effect in March 2012. Between 2011 and 2014, US exports to Korea increased by about $1 billion, but imports have increased by $13 billion, so the trade deficit has increased by nearly $12 billion. This growing trade deficit with Korea has cost more than 75,000 US jobs.
And regarding the TPP, Scott made this simple observation:
The administration has claimed that the TPP will create jobs, but it will not.

My advice to all Democrats is: take a deep breathe, step back, and walk away. The cost of supporting this colossal mistake is too dear to ignore.

Thanks, mimi,
I don't know about you, but I've run out of patience. It's time to take off the gloves...

Great diary, praenomen
And everything you wrote is the absolute truth!
Why the bots can't see how OBAMA and the Dems have been betraying us for decades is beyond me.
OBAMA has destroyed the dem party and let the GOP back up.
They should have been buried after Bush.
But he worked with them even after the promised not to work with him.
Great music pick.
Thanks, snoopydawg
I think the Democratic Party is like a runawary train barreling down the tracks, headed for a massive collision with reality...and the TPP will be the giant boulder that drops on top of them...
I like the Dixie Chicks; they don't take shit from anyone...

in a nutshell, yes
In a nutshell, thanks....

Isn't it odd. The simple question is hidden in secrecy. The TPP clearly trumps our constitution; yet...exhausts my ability to articulate right now.
I think you stated it very well;
it is so blatantly corrupt, it has left us all speechless.

I am with you on this
This is what I wrote as a comment over at the other place on another diary, but it pertains to this too.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
Very eloquently stated,
and your analysis is spot on...and I really like this: ...with neo liberal team blue, we are being bled drop by drop

True. The lesser of two evils is still evil.
You did get one thing wrong, tho.
We poor people haven't been forgotten. They're still trying to find ways to hurt us even more.
Cutting SNAP, WIC, Head start funds. Going after my whole $733/month SSI payment.
$25/day withdrawal in Kansas and limiting what poor people can buy and where they can use our cards.
Other then that, spot on.
Congress makes more in one hour then I do all month.
Evil bastards!
Plenty of money to murder people who haven't harmed us, money for other countries, but no money for us.
You are quite correct
that the poor have been villified. What I meant about the poor being forgotten was when was the last time you heard any politician in Washington express concern for the poor? I remember very early in Obama's administration asking the question at dkos about what does the administration have planned to help the poor and I do not believe anyone there answered that question. I honestly cannot remember Obama ever mentioning the poor at all in his speeches either.
It screams loudly just how corrupted the soul of this nation is, or if we even have a national soul left.

I'm wondering how you can state
followed by:
Are you indicating that Elizabeth Warren can save the party?
I'm not certain anything can save
the Democratic Party...but, our screaming is having an effect on the political process:
...and right now, Elizabeth Warren is drawing blood; so who knows?

I love...
Henry V, the whole Henriad to be exact, but especially Henry V. Henry IV, Part I with Falstaff cracks me up, but the heroic speeches in Henry V are the best in literature.
JtC, you're a genteel man of letters...
The rest of us waste time trying to form gerunds by placing ing at the end of words that describe the Daily Kos...like fuckedupednessing

My take
No one individual can save the Democratic party. Elizabeth Warren is an economic populist and I am thrilled to see her standing her ground, but one person cannot save an organization as corrupt as the Democratic party. Only when we the people in force say enough is enough will there be room for more than just a token one or two Elizabeth Warrens.

Absolutely,
I would be just as happy if someone like Russ Feingold tossed his hat in the ring...Elizabeth Warren is helping the populist movement, so we owe her thanks for that, but it will take more time before we know for certain that she is real

What do you think?

MB has an open thread up about a new bottom up grass roots movement. Are you aware of it? What is it? Is it real? Is your effort connected?

Thanks for pointing me to this article
I regularly follow many of the people involved in the organizations named in that movement...Dave Johnson is the head of Campaign For America, and he is one of the most vocal critics of the TPP. He's one of the good guys. I was surprised that Roger Hickey was involved.
For some time, I have been warning the Democrats a tidal wave was about to hit them, but they are arrogant... no one listens...think back to my diary explaining why the populists are leaving the Democratic Party...some of the DKos commenters laughed at the idea that any real Dems were leaving...now they are about to learn the truth.
I don't care how they turn the movement into a viable political entity, I just want someone to take the first step and lead. There are millions of us waiting in the wings.
Oh, and I noticed that Kevin Zeese is posting on the Occupy website, so maybe he will tap into their member list and bring them back into the fold...

Yes...
very interesting. Maybe get this site involved with the movement? I'm going to research this a bit further and address it tomorrow in the Open Thread.
Actually, Roger Hickey co-founded the CFA with Robert
Borosage; I always thought Dave Johnson was the head of the movement because of his OurFuture.org website, which carries the heading Campaign for America's Future...And I know that Digby won their annual award once...Katrina vanden Heuvel is involved, and so is the former head of the AFL-CIO...

Shady connections.
CFA gets money from the Rockefeller foundation, George Soros, among others. They're all seemingly connected, all have Executive
Directors, the same type of websites.
These are not the people who are going to change the world. Or the country.
